Takeshi and Kotsuro- A short story
(I wrote this a few years ago after I watched the valley of the end fight)
Finally, I stared him down. Two brothers on opposing sides. Two men who had loved each other all their lives now would decide the others' fate, and in the most spiritually connected place we could be. My Mother and Father's grave just one hundred yards away. I drew my sword, and he followed. I could see it in his eyes he was completely exhausted, but then again so was I. As I stared him down we both knew this was it. One of us would not leave this battlefield. In the blink of an eye, as I was pondering this terrible war, he shouted and came at me with an extreme intent to kill. I took off as well, when we neared each other, as the tears swelled in my eyes , I swung my blade. Just as my eyes unwillingly closed I saw he had done the same. That was the last I remember of our battle.
I awoke and there was blood all over me, but I was not injured. I noticed there was blood staining the ground I laid upon. I stood up, my legs were shaking. I followed the droplets of blood, it seemed like they went on forever. Time stood still as I reached their end. I saw my brother laying on my mother's gravestone with a large slash wound on his chest. I shouted to him, as tears rushed down my face like a stampeding herd, he was gone. I realized what he had done. After I landed a blow on him before he could, he saw that I had blacked out from the shear terror. He could have killed me right then and there before his own death, but he did just the opposite. He knew I had won the fight, he was not my enemy anymore. He became my beloved brother for the final moments of his life, and carried me to a place where i would be safe. Then he went to meet his own fate where he could be with our mother and father again. I cried for a long time beside my older brother, and it rained. Then the rain faded and so did my tears, I looked into the sky and saw his face smiling. He said just one thing to me. He told me he would be my keeper forever, and I would meet him again on a glorious day. He disappeared, but those words would never leave me. I continued my journey, with my blade on my right, and his blade on my left. I would fight in his honor.
