Ok, i get from time to time a lot of messages with how to make these borders around an avatar or sig, so i decided to make a tutorial.
-My GIMP 2.6 version is german so i tryed to translate it to english (not perfectly
)
To answer the question about the edges, this is MY way i invented to make these borders - i dunno any other that is better, faster or easier:
4-Round edges: *Follow these steps*
Select/rounded recktangle/<50>
Select/border/<4>
*Fill out the now chosen part with colour*
Select/select nothing
Select/rounded recktangle/<54>
Edit/copy
Edit/insert as new picture
2-Round edges 2-Square edges: *Follow these steps*
Select/rounded recktangle/<50>
Select/border/<4>
*Fill out 2 corners with a colour of your choice and the whole straight way to the next corner. BUT not the round one (of the edges u want to be square)!! Now it should look like this:
Select/select nothing
Tool Box/square selection
*make lines with the breadth of ur coloured lines up to the top and fill them with colour*
Like this:
Select/select nothing
Tool Box/free selection (also called lasso)
*now the "handjob" begins: use the free selection tool (lasso) to round the overlaying borders to get the same breadth as the other borders*
-->(the round edges should be bigger than the straight lines right now)
Close the part u choose and delete it
It should look like this:
-->(i marked the part u deleted by lasso in the colour YELLOW here)
