Traveller Left Behind
A group of four we travelled
In a barren land; yet to be filled
At the beginning of this journey
You three stood ahead, side by side
With me observing from the back
At a calm pace we walked; no rush
The footsteps that you made
I gently walked in them
All good at this moment; I could follow
Then, as if on an errand
You quickened your pace slightly
I adjusted my pace to suit
In this same rhythm we continued on
Again, you soon increased the speed
Finding myself getting weary, I trudged on
But you kept moving faster; now at a jog
With me behind; just watching your backs
I soon found myself running
What, was there a lion behind?
Bewildered, I tried to follow
But could feel myself getting weaker
Out of breath, I stumbled
On the ground now, I saw you move ahead
Looking so strong; ahead and not back
You did not see me fallen
I silently reached out my hand
As if to say, 'Wait for me'
But you did not turn around
As my voice faltered me
I rose to my feet, and ran again
As if I thought I could catch up
But how foolish; I simply fell again
Now you are far away from me
Next to the horizon; I can barely see you
I stay here on the ground feeling bitter
Why? Why had I not called out?
For you to turn around; help me back to my feet
You were so close, yet so far
So I continue to sit here all alone
And you have disappeared even farther
Than the horizon which now glows orange
I am left behind, for eternity...
