earth element is one of the five basic elements, it is strong against suiton and weak against raiton.
Doton element can be majorly used for trapping techniques and as defense against most physical attacks.
It can also be used for offensive techniques.
In this technique the user uses his/her chakra to manipulate ground, rock and sand.
I am not sure but the jutsu used by gaara to control the sand is also a doton technique of high level.

Good but actually Sand is it's own element and if I'm not mistaken, sand users can freely control sand.
*Stomps on the ground, opening a pit below your feet that you fall into and then stomps my foot again making dirt shower over you, covering you*

Try to convert your chakra to that of earth by feeling the ground around you as well as having the tiger seal formed. Try to send out some of your chakra into the ground to get a better feel of the ground around you in order to convert your chakra.

sending my chakra to the ground and getting a more better feeling of the earth, making the earth more familiar
