One good medium for a continuous electric attack would the the ground. This is because electricity can travel through the ground and shock an opponent through their feet, or it can also be used to neutralize a Earth technique that uses the ground as a source.

Another good medium would be any kind of water source. This is because of water's natural ability to conduct electricity, which leads in a power boost to the lightning jutsu. Since water is countered by Earth, this would be all the more reason to use water and lightning together.

The air itself can also be used as a medium. You can use the air to form a sort of force field made out of electricity, to help you against Taijutsu, and most short range techniques.

The last medium that I could think of would be a human body. If I could get my hands on an opponent, and pump them full of lightning chakra, it could be bad. This is because the human body is composed of 75% water, and less electricity gets lost through travel.
Good, however I wouldn't agree with air as a medium. Yes it can travel through air but much shorter distances and it needs far move power to do so. Air is actually a natural insulator, thus why wind techniques are used to dissipate lightning. Everything else is correct. :)

Sweet technique. It's long range which is very rare for such low ranked techniques. It can also hit multiple objects but as always, when split it's power is divided too.

Nothing much to be said about it. It gets additional power if used with water. Since you need to fuel the wave with chakra, you would need to perform the water technique first and then electrocute it with lightning.

Techniques like this one are real beauties. See, you know you can't simply jump to avoid some techniques? Well this one allows you to. Because it states in its description that you jump, you can use it to avoid an earthquake or earth spikes. And the range part means that you can jump from short to mid range while the discharge, once you slam your palm on the ground, reaches short range around you.

This is good against earthen projectiles, weapons and tools. You simply hold your hands in front of you and keep releasing a discharge that creates a wall of lightning. It can also shock opponents that pass through it.

Can you come up with any other uses for these techniques? I'm interested to hear your opinion about them.

I was watching a fight in the battle arena the other day to study up on battle tactics and strategy, and someone used "Earth Release: Underground Projection Fish Technique" that allowed them to go underground in order to avoid an attack. I would use this lightning technique to counter that jutsu. Since they are underground, and this jutsu travels through the ground, it should hit and reveal their location.

As long as I make contact with my opponent, this technique should work. Knowing this, I would use it for defensive purposes when my opponent comes in close to use Taijutsu. As soon as they land a punch, kick, elbow, or whatever else, they will get a shock as well.

Since this technique can be used at long ranges, I would use it to herd my opponent in the direction I want them to go. For example, if there is a body of water to my opponent's left, I would use this technique and sweep the current from my left to right, so that they have no choice but to head toward the water. When they get there, new options become available to me for attack.

This jutsu would be great to counter an earth technique. For this one, I'm thinking that you can use three shadow clones, and all of you use this technique and get on all sides of a person of interest (I.E. your opponent, a POW, etc.). This should encase them in a box of electricity, which would be good for taking people alive.

Good, but what would you do if these were used against you? It's obvious that the best course of action would be wind jutsus, but I'm interested in specifics.

Well, the techniques that require a medium will probably be sent through the ground, because its the easiest option. Did I just read genjutsu! I love you! :D That is perfect. Completely outside of the box. Even though most would agree that it's very risky but I have done the same in one of my previous battles and even though I suffered some damage, I managed to defeat my opponent. Excellent thinking! So tell me, is there anything unclear about these jutsus?

Method 3: Melee

My favorite method to explain. Chidori and its variants like Negashi and spear, etc. Explaining Chidori will basically outline the rest. This is simply another shape+nature manipulation technique. Channel the raiton chakra in your hand; concentrate it so that the vibrations are so much so that they create the sound of chirping birds. The high amount of vibrations gives you a tremendous increase in power making the basic chidori technique capable of peircing straight through flesh and bone and even harder substances. Then the variants only have some slight modifications, however they all start with the creation of an initial Chidori in the palm (note: this does not mean you have to use Chidori before you use any of the variants) The modification is generally some general form of shape manipulation or merely an enhancement or sudden release of the built up energy from Chidori.

Advantages of Method

These techniques are great techniques to use in a fairly close combat setting. Though they’re ninjutsu techniques, they’re heavy taijutsu complimenting techniques. The basic chidori or Raikiri engulfs the entire hand and possess some degree of discharge. As well, the variants like current, spear, and senbon adds versatility to the element and allows for techniques to expand in range.

Disadvantages of Method

Though the variant techniques allow for the techniques in this method to extend in range, these ranged techniques generally lack in power. Chidori and Raikiri are powerful techniques, they are the base for the rest of the techniques in this method and they are short ranged. They are taijutsu compliments which means to avoid/get around these techniques, all one has to do is effectively get out of range. For the variants, there is not a large range for width wise with these attacks. First, I channel my lightning chakra into my hand. Next, I concentrate it in order to make it more powerful.

The sound of chirping birds fills the training grounds

Wow, these vibrations are intense. It's going to take some work to hit a target like this, but here goes nothing!

Hiei takes off at a full sprint, with his lightning blade in hand. He runs toward a boulder that is two meters high, and three meters wide. Once he reaches said boulder, he extends his arm and pierces the rock with chidori. A loud boom is heard as small bits of rock rain down on us. The frontal half of the boulder is missing, and the remainder is still smoking.

Wow, these vibrations are intense. It's going to take some work to hit a target like this, but here goes nothing!

Hiei takes off at a full sprint, with his lightning blade in hand. He runs toward a boulder that is two meters high, and three meters wide. Once he reaches said boulder, he extends his arm and pierces the rock with chidori. A loud boom is heard as small bits of rock rain down on us. The frontal half of the boulder is missing, and the remainder is still smoking.
Oh, good job skipping the most important part and explaining how you graciously jump and thrust your chidori. xD Again. This time I want to hear how you feel and what you do while manipulating chakra in your hand.

EDIT: Damn, I made a terrible mistake. I just noticed your rank. You can't learn the Chidori yet and I've skipped a few techniques from the previous method. Unfortunately we'll have to stop the training after these techniques until you reach a higher rank.

Excellent technique to use with water. It's extremely fast so it adds to the usefulness. With a wide scale water jutsu you can make the combination almost impossible to dodge. The best bet would be evaporating the water in order to get rid of the medium for the lightning and in order to render it useless. Or if you're very quick and prevent your opponent from following up with this technique.

My counter/defense would vary for this based on which bio I was using. This is because the best counter that I can think of would involve a specialty of Suiton for a speedy release. While my opponent envelops themselves in the shroud of lightning, I would use the Gushing Water Imprisonment technique to encase them in water, so that their own lightning electrocutes them.

Considering that this technique is best utilized while using in conjunction with a water jutsu, I am going to list my counter for that move set, rather than just this technique by itself. When my opponent begins to spew water at me, I would raise an earth cavern around them, using the Earth Corridor technique. This is because it would trap the water and my opponent in a cavern, so best case scenario, they electrocute themselves and drown.

Banquet of Lightning

To counter this one, I would take advantage of the fact that the tendrils race along the ground to get to me. I would release a A-Rank+ water jutsu that is very wide spread. This is because as the water stretches to my opponent, it will pick up the electric charges along the way because of the electronegative nature of water, stopping them from coming at me and possible shocking my opponent at well. Regardless, my opponent would still have water to deal with after, because of the rank differences.

Tornado Lightning

I can't think of anything really special to do with this one. Lightning isn't exactly tangible, so using the whip against them in this instance would be almost impossible. Due to this, I would counter this with a jet stream wind jutsu of at least B rank, just so my opponent has something to deal with afterward.

Lightning Beast Running Technique

This one is very particular. Normally, I would say I would rush my opponent and use a short range water jutsu before escaping, that way the hound would step on the water and shock my opponent, but I don't think I could do anything fast enough to escape, so I would end up hurting myself too. Because of this, I think I would play it safe and use a B+ rank gust technique to make the hound dissipate.

Super Vibrating Lightning Release Sword

For this technique, I would take advantage of the fact that my opponent has to stay connected to the blade for it to work, plus they could only use the technique at short range. This tells me that I need to stay at least mid range away. Given that my opponent wouldn't use this technique until they were already in range, I would use a water quick jet jutsu at a downward angle at my opponents blade. Not only would this electrocute them, but I would also use it to get out of range so that they couldn't come at me with it again.

Thunderbolt Flash

This one would be hard to counter. It's very fast and I'm at short range anyway, so time is definitely not on my side. Having said this, the only counter that seems reasonable to me is the Wind Sickle Armor technique. This being A-Rank, plus having the elemental advantage, would be more than enough to stop this from hurting me.

I know for a fact that we had C-Rank's completely done, but they since they have added more to each list and moved some around, so I'm going to list every technique that we haven't gone over. I will defer to your good judgement as to where we start. We already went over a couple of A-Ranks, so I didn't include them. I wasn't suppose to learn them at the time, but I can know them now. Description: This jutsu allows the user to generate non-focused electricity from their body. It can be used as an omnidirectional attack or be channeled through weapons, the ground or other conductive mediums. Because the electricity isn't focused, it doesn't kill on contact, instead it has great numbing and paralyzing effects. To channel Nagashi through a medium, the user needs to focus the technique into one of his hands which will then be put in contact with the medium and can only choose to either do a widespread attack throughout his whole body or to channel it into something; he cannot achieve both usages at the same time. Despite not having much destructive or damaging properties, Nagashi can be used to destroy low rank earthen and wooden structures and even negate chakra on the ground to stop high ranked earth and wood techniques. It has also been noted that Lightning Specialists that have mastered Lightning to the highest degree can resist total paralyzation, although they still feel the pain and numbing effects.

Description: The Lightning Cutter is an enhanced and concentrated form of the Chidori with the same effects and drawbacks that is done performing the Ox → Rabbit → Monkey hand seals. According to Might Guy, it gained its name after Kakashi split a bolt of lightning with it. Because the Chidori is already powerful on its own, the Lightning Cutter requires better chakra control, which is exemplified in its appearance. The Chidori appears as simply a mass of white electrical chakra in the user's hand, while the Lightning Cutter is much more focused. Kakashi has shown different ways of forming and using the Lightning Cutter, unique to him. For example, he demonstrated the ability to imbue a projectile weapon, such as a kunai, with his Lightning Cutter, granting the technique long-range capabilities by throwing the kunai towards his target. In this instance, the kunai was capable of piercing through multiple large rocks with ease, without any loss of momentum or change in trajectory.
Note: Kakashi biographies can use the technique without hand seals.

Note: Can follow with any Genjutsu the user knows up to A-Rank but needs to have mastered Genjutsu. The user will need to effectively spend two moves, performing both the Lightning Illusion and the Genjutsu; the first only serves as a cover to place the second unnoticed

That sounds great to me, and yes I have compared the two lists. I know for a fact that we had C-Rank's completely done, but they since they have added more to each list and moved some around, so I'm going to list every technique that we haven't gone over. I will defer to your good judgement as to where we start. We already went over a couple of A-Ranks, so I didn't include them. I wasn't suppose to learn them at the time, but I can know them now. So we can go back over them, or not. Whatever you want to do.

(Raiton: Iwa Nadare) - Lightning Style: Stone Avalanche

The user can rush at their opponents even if the barrier is active and use it to ram against them. The shield can be used offensively, by discharging the electricity in the direction of their choice in a wave resulting in using the energy of the barrier and ending its effects.
Note: Technique remains active for 3 turns.

Description: This jutsu allows the user to generate non-focused electricity from their body. It can be used as an omnidirectional attack or be channeled through weapons, the ground or other conductive mediums. Because the electricity isn't focused, it doesn't kill on contact, instead it has great numbing and paralyzing effects. To channel Nagashi through a medium, the user needs to focus the technique into one of his hands which will then be put in contact with the medium and can only choose to either do a widespread attack throughout his whole body or to channel it into something; he cannot achieve both usages at the same time. Despite not having much destructive or damaging properties, Nagashi can be used to destroy low rank earthen and wooden structures and even negate chakra on the ground to stop high ranked earth and wood techniques. It has also been noted that Lightning Specialists that have mastered Lightning to the highest degree can resist total paralyzation, although they still feel the pain and numbing effects.
Note: Paralyzation lasts 1 turn if sucessful but is ineffective against bios who have a primary Lightning Specialty

The user can increase the number of spears to attack multiple enemies by branching the main spear. This, coupled with the sheer speed of the lightning, makes it a difficult technique to evade. Description: The Lightning Cutter is an enhanced and concentrated form of the Chidori with the same effects and drawbacks that is done performing the Ox → Rabbit → Monkey hand seals. According to Might Guy, it gained its name after Kakashi split a bolt of lightning with it. Because the Chidori is already powerful on its own, the Lightning Cutter requires better chakra control, which is exemplified in its appearance. The Chidori appears as simply a mass of white electrical chakra in the user's hand, while the Lightning Cutter is much more focused. Kakashi has shown different ways of forming and using the Lightning Cutter, unique to him. For example, he demonstrated the ability to imbue a projectile weapon, such as a kunai, with his Lightning Cutter, granting the technique long-range capabilities by throwing the kunai towards his target. In this instance, the kunai was capable of piercing through multiple large rocks with ease, without any loss of momentum or change in trajectory.
Note: Kakashi biographies can use the technique without hand seals.
Note: Only Kakashi biographies can apply the technique to a kunai and use it as a projectile attack.

Description: After performing the following handseals Ram → Horse → Snake → Tiger the user will release a massive amount of lighting chakra which he uses to create a blinding light that appears to emanate from all over the users body. The light can blind any enemy that sees it but its main ability is that, through skill and precise chakra control and timing, the user can use it as a cover to put the enemy into a genjutsu by using the light as a decoy, preventing the enemy from noticing the genjutsu was placed.
Note: Can follow with any Genjutsu the user knows up to A-Rank but needs to have mastered Genjutsu. The user will need to effectively spend two moves, performing both the Lightning Illusion and the Genjutsu; the first only serves as a cover to place the second unnoticed

You create an avalanche by releasing bolts of electricity to dislodge them. It's fairly simple, however, there is one problem. This has to be performed on a hill so that you can actually achieve the avalanche effect. So for that, I'll create a slope for you, if you can't do it yourself. As you can see, besides the obvious usage, I don't think there lies much more to it. It's pretty terrain specific and it doesn't give you any wiggle room around it.

I'm pretty sure that we already did one of these where you increase your swords abilities by channeling chakra into it. Either way, this one takes it a step further. One you do this, it allows you to also control the sword by levitating it and moving through the air by your will. Upon doing so, you even multiply it and then make them spin. And all of this with hand gestures, amazing. Obviously, the main problem is the fact that you have to be focused on this technique in order to control it, thus why you can't create any other techniques.

Stone Avalanche

If I had to put this into one of the four categories you mentioned at the start of this training, I would place it into the specifics grouping. This is because the lightning that I create isn't directly affecting my opponent, but the terrain which then affects my opponent. Also, it is a very specific scenario.

Performance

Sasuke stands at the top of a large cliff face looking down on a target below. His goal is simple; he needs to create a lightning current to race through this rock section he is standing on, so that any imperfections would be exploited, the rocks become dislodged from each other, and crash onto the target area below. He channels his raiton chakra and forms the Snake → Upside down Tiger hand seals before clapping his hands together. This causes an electric current to be released from the bottom of his feet and into the ground beneath. The current would rip and tear through any and all cracks in the earth, while creating more on its own. It would greatly wear on the durability of the stone until it comes across a flaw in the main support system for the cliff. After it reaches that, it would cause cracks to erupt through it, causing the weight of the cliff to overpower the weakened support system, causing the entire thing to collapse. As it begins to fall, Sasuke quickly and calmly jumps up and back as to not fall with the cliff face, as he watches the newly created boulders crash onto their targeted area.

Utilization

Well, considering how situational this technique is, there isn't very much that can be done with it. Unless, that is, I find myself fighting in a cave system. In which case, I would be freed to use this technique more, but that in itself is another situational occurrence.

Advantages

Since this technique requires at least some distance between you and your opponent and there are only two hand seals, stopping this technique once it has been started would be almost impossible. This means that the best that my opponent could do is react to what is happening. Also, if I put myself in the right position in relation to location, I could make it to where my opponent would have no choice but to face the oncoming barrage. For example, if I used this while inside a cave system, there could be a wall behind my opponent, making escape impossible without going through my avalanche first. But alas, this is, again, situational.

Disadvantages

The main disadvantage to this technique is how amazingly situational it is. Out of all of the fights and spars I have been in, not once have I been in a position that I could have used this technique, even if I had known it for all of them.

Descripton: The user will bite his thumb and perform the Boar → Monkey → Bird → Monkey → Ram hand seals, slamming their hand into a scroll on the ground. This technique is a combination of the Summoning Technique and an Earth Release technique. The user summons a large amount of rock from a giant canyon which, during the process of being summoned through this technique, he shapes into a design he outlined previously in a scroll. This allows the user to change the topography of the map and create any earthen feature he needs from pillars to gorges, canyons, mountains or simply plains. If the user wants to or is defeated, the alteration ends as any summon eventually does. Additionally he can use (Doton: Dimenshon Fuudo Shihai) - Earth Release: Dimension Topography Control at any point to change the design and alter the summoned terrain.
Note: can only be used once per battle



to put my opponent inside a cavern/cave system with myself on the outside, could I stand on top of the structure, and cause the roof to cave in because of this technique? Same process, same logic, but a different terrain?

Lightning Blades Levitation

I would also consider this one to be specific as well. This is because the lightning is only serving as an aid to increase the cutting power of the blades.

Performance

Sasuke pulls the katana out of his waist line and holds it in front of him with two hands. He then pumps it full of raiton chakra, and manipulates it to where he causes it to levitate in front of him. Causing the blade to split off two other blades (for a total of 3) he does a few hand gestures to grasp the basic control of the blades. After a few moments, he causes the blades to begin rotating violently before shooting them off at a target not far away. The blades pierce the target, sliding through it like butter due to the cutting force of the blades.

Utilization

I would use this technique to level the playing field if I found myself in the situation that I have to take on multiple people at once. This is because I could separate the blades and attack both opponents simultaneously with one jutsu, rather than using two just for the second to not go through.

Advantages

I can have a total of 3 blades that I can control independently from each other. This means that I can attack up to three enemies at once. Plus, this technique allows me to have full control over the path this attack goes with out being directly connected to it, which puts me in a low risk/ high reward scenario.

Disadvantages

If I was in a fight and my opponent used this against me, I would have the perfect counter every time, because of one detail. You need complete focus in order to make this technique work. So if you send your blades at me, I'm going to pull out the fastest jutsu I know, and send it at you. At that point you would have two options, either allow yourself to be hit by my technique (which I promise will do more damage than this one) in order to hit me, or stop the technique and defend yourself. Regardless, at the end of the exchange, I will be on top.
