"Seems you've learned quite a bit since your encounter, however you forgot about genjutsu kai." Danjou pointed out. "Personally I'd identify four basic methods; kai, pain, surge, and external infusion. However I'm sure you just forgot." It was rare for Danjou to give the benefit of the doubt, especially toward another Uchiha.

Danjou stared at Jakai for a moment, "If I told you of another method of breaking genjutsu, do you think you could guess what it is?"
Jakai looked to his sensei. He thought to himself. An additional method? Besides the Sharingan's natural ability, what else? He looked to his sensei. The only thing I can think of besides the ones I stated would be the Sharingan's own natural ability.

"Hmph, I guess I shouldn't expect those spoiled by genetic innateness to understand depth." Danjou said as he stood to his feet. "Turn off your Sharingan, you won't need it brat. I have pride as a teacher so I can't let you be anything less than above average in anything that I teach you.

I want you to tell me the two conditions you must follow in order to properly layer multiple genjutsu on your opponent. I assume you know what I mean by layering."

Jakai gave a little grin from his sensei's remark. Following his sensei's command to deactivate his Sharingan, Jakai was reluctant to do so. He knew from previous encounters and experiences to never let his guard down, especially considering the previous few minutes that just passed. Despite this, Jakai deactivated his Sharingan, as a sign of trust. He thought to himself. I'll regret this after training is done.

Jakai then began answering his sensei. Yes sensei. The two conditions involved with casting layered genjutsu on opponents involve time-frame and rank. Of course, an additional condition is that the effects of the genjutsus themselves should never conflict with each other. Regarding time-frame, two genjutsus can not be casted at the same time on a target. One genjutsu must be casted at a time before casting the next. The other condition involves rank. The order of the genjutsu casting is dependent on the ranks of the genjutsus used. Higher ranked genjutsu must be used prior to lower rank genjutsu, in order to properly layer the two genjutsu. There is no specific order of casting genjutsus of the same rank. If done correctly, the result is a false reality combination of the two techniques.

"Partially incorrect answers are still incorrect answers." Danjou said. "There are cases where you are more than capable of casting more than one genjutsu on your opponent at a time, one of which you will learn soon enough therefore your assertion about time-frame is wrong."

"We're going to focus on the area you only briefly covered, which is the state of non-conflict between two or more genjutsu being layered. Why would trying to layer, lets say two, genjutsu with opposite effects on your opponent not work, what would happen?"

Jakai focused on the response of his sensei. He realized there were still things he needed to learn, so he would focus on not letting his head get to him. Trying not to make even another partial mistake, Jakai spoke calmly. It's my understanding that if two opposite illusions were used at the same time, both illusions would contradict one another, essentially canceling both of the techniques.

"Ohhh, so you are aware of what would happen to that degree...then let's say you place a genjutsu of your own on top of your opponent's genjutsu that they cast on you and your jutsu contradicts theirs. What would happen to their jutsu?" Danjou was leading the young Uchiha patronizingly.

Jakai gave a perplexed look at first after hearing his sensei. He then realized momentarily that he was trying be fooled. Nothing would happen. I'd still be in the illusion castes by my opponent, while my opponent would be trapped in the Genjutsu I would use. Based on the mechanics of Genjutsu, at first, my opponent would actually be experiencing any of the illusions that he or she would cast on me. So if I were to use a genjutsu that contradicted the illusion, my opponent would then only see my illusion I casted. Jakai continued looking back at his sensei, hoping that he'd be able to get on his good side.

Danjou started to lament the fact that he was teaching this boy once again. "Jakai-kun..." Danjou said with a lazy glaze in his eye "If you put If you have something in one place, and then you place something on top of that thing, aren't they in the same location?" He condescendingly spoke as if he were speaking to a 5 year old.

Jakai realized he had foolishly spoken. Fortunately for him, he realized his mistake from what his sensei said. I apologize Danjou Sensei. I misunderstood your earlier question. I had understood it as what would happen if I had placed a Genjutsu on my opponent while I would still be inside their Genjutsu. What you said just now made me realize that you were stating what would happen if I placed a contradicting Genjutsu upon the actual Genjutsu the opponent used on me. Jakai gave a solemn bow to his sensei, hoping to showcase his respect and that he would understand his reasoning. Being that I am casting a contradicting Genjutsu on the Genjutsu the opponent used, I would basically be casting a Genjutsu on myself. That being said, the same result as what I stated before occurs: the two Genjutsus will break one another, freeing the user.

"So then, I guess there's another method of breaking out of genjutsu then..."

Now looking back to his earlier statement, Jakai realized that he was mistaken. Even though he knew of of the method of breaking, he didn't realize that he knew. Jakai spoke. Yes sensei. I obviously still require teachings to learn from my mistakes.

"That goes without saying..." Danjou stroked his beard, "Let's see, we've covered breaking and layering already. Not my usual order but...what different' mediums are there for casting genjutsu and how are they different then the conventional method of casting genjutsu?"

The most recognized mediums for casting Genjutsu are Vision-Based from Doujutsu and Sound-Based Genjutsu from the Sound Element. In addition to those however, there are more specialized mediums used, such as physical contact used in the recognized fighting style, Lazy Fist. The Three Tails has a special ability to cast Genjutsu from the mist it creates. Other mediums can be through scent, like those from Perfume Release. In rare cases, elements can be used as mediums for Gens, but only a select few are capable of doing so. Jakai said. He then followed up by answering the second part of his sensei's question.

Unlike the traditional method of casting Genjutsu that is done by disrupting the opponent's chakra network directly and affecting their brain, these methods first require a medium to come in contact with the opponent. For Sight-Based Genjutsus, eye contact must be made. For Sound-Based Genjutsus, the opponent must hear something. For Touch-Based Gens, the opponent must have made physical contact with the user in one way or another. The key difference to note is that these types of Genjutsu must pass through the mediums and hit the target before taking effect . Also, these techniques, generally speaking, should be more powerful than standard Genjutsu.

"They're not necessarily stronger or weaker than other genjutsu but rather they possess different elements to the illusion that aren't within other forms. For example; casting a mist based genjutsu will require the mist to be in contact with the victim in order for it to take effect and the jutsu will keep effecting the person as long as the medium is in contact. Ordinary methods of breaking such as genjutsu kai or inflicting pain won't be as effective. Sure they may work for temporarily dispelling the illusion but if the medium itself isn't dealt with the user will still be under its effects. Likewise, if the victim were to simply distance themselves from the mist before it spread or were to disperse the mist and then break the illusion, it wouldn't be so hard to do so. It's a matter of making use of the qualities that come with individual mediums."

Listening closely, Jakai realized how important it would be to deal with these Genjutsus that require mediums. I understand. So in addition to actually getting out of the Gen, it's important to get rid of the physical medium as well to prevent entering the Gen right after knocking yourself out of it.

"Precisely, a common mistake that people will make when encountering genjutsu with consistent mediums is that; that even if you destroy the medium causing the illusion, most of the time you'll still need to break out of the genjutsu through ordinary means as well. The chakra that resided inside you from the medium doesn't go away until it's internally purged as well."

So in those cases, it'd be effective to use a method that can escape the Genjutsu as well as destroy the medium. The one method that sticks out the most is the Full-Body Surges. That method would allow one to effectively break the Genjutsu as well as possibly affect the physical terrain around them. Basically, one should try to kill two birds with one stone so as to not waste their moves.

"That's the case with any multi-step processed technique. You want to beat it in as little steps as possible to keep yourself from falling behind and dealing with layer upon layer of your opponent's techniques. That's just common sense."

"Now then, there's nothing else to cover beyond the actual techniques, so is there anything that you'd specifically like to know about that I haven't covered yet before we get to those?"
