Yamato arrives on the training field, spotting his student to be. He performs the snake hand seal and forces a table and two chairs at opposite ends of the table in order for him and his student to sit down. Yamato takes his seat while pointing to the other one with a smile on his face.

Go on, have a seat. Firstly we will have a little talk, the two of us. Tell me something about you.

OOC: I want to know your full training progress (everything you know and up to what rank), links to your biographies, your battle preferences, summoning contracts, favorite element (and why), close/ranged combat, genjutsu etc. I want to know everything. Also, I hope you don't mind if I RP a little.

Favorite:
Raiton or Suiton and for various reasons, for one I like primarily like Raiton because I love lightning in real life. I think its beautiful and exciting, plus it's a pretty deadly element in Narutoverse, with its extremely high speeds and paralyzing strikes. As for Suiton, again I enjoy spending my time in or near water, if I could I would live close to the ocean. To me its so relaxing and calming, all in all I really have a strong like for it. Also, in terms of narutoverse it's one of the most versatile elements which is defiantly a plus.

Yamato sits comfortably in his chair as the man approaches. There was something that Yamato recognized on the man, but when he saw the clothes covering half the mans face, Yamato knew exactly who that was.

S-sempai?!? What are you doing here? It's odd we met under these circumstances.

Yamato hands over a list to Kakashi.

Now, I've devised this training into several categories which we will go through. You will pick one of the categories that we will begin with. Category 6 we will do last the other ones are all available.

  • Freeform tai/kenjutsu
  • Realistic aspects to the RP (angle, direction etc.)
  • Elemental combinations,weaknesses,strengths
  • Using summonings, clones
  • Battling types and characteristics
  • Practice spar
  • Useful threads in the forum which can help you
  • Creating CJ

"Oi!"
"Very odd indeed, I just thought it'd be a good idea to refresh some old knowledge.. though it's ironic that my teacher is my old student, eh?"
Kakashi extends his hand and takes the list from Yamato.
"Arigatou gozaimasu."
Kakashi scans the list thoroughly, before beginning to speak..

Now, I've created several sub-categories for this which we will go through one by one:

Angle
Direction
Range
Terrain
Weather
Use of Tools

These are the realistic aspects of the RP. We will be covering one at a time starting with Angle. These are some of the things you need to keep in mind when fighting in a battle.

Angle is a very important part when battling and if used right it can give you the upper hand over your opponent. It's very important to understand the angles in a battle. This is mainly used with ninja tools (shuriken, kunai and other projectiles) but you can also use this with certain techniques that are launched at your opponent. Just by stating the angle you can confuse your opponent.

For example:Ninja 1 and Ninja 2 are fighting. N1 throws 2 kunai at N2, one at the angle of 25 and the other on 75. The lower the angle, the faster the projectile. Most new people would say:"I intercept the kunai with one of my own, blocking them both." If you use angles, this is where you can score.

Here is a pic for reference:
You must be registered for see images

If N1 threw the kunai at an angle of 25 first your opponent would probably be defending from that one first thus he would fail to notice the other one. If he blocks the first one then the second one would hit him unless he kept his focus. Thus with one blow you can cause fatal injuries.

Understand? If not tell me and I will elaborate ^^

Keep in mind the thing about angle, that it can be applied to many techniques, especially Earth and such.

All right,direction.

Direction in the RP can be applied virtually to everything in the RP. Tools, weapons, techniques. There is so much you can do with it and just by stating these kind of things in a battle can make the battle less confusing to both you and your opponent. By stating the direction you can usually get the people from the newer gen confused and that can be your opening.

Usage in battle:
If you use 3 techniques and direct them in a straight line, the opponent can easily block/avoid them, but if you use one technique to come from the right, one from the left then he won't have a lot of time to protect from both of these. You can meanwhile make spikes beneath him, or a technique to trap him. The possibilities are endless.

Totally understand, in the few spars i've had, sometimes I get a bit confused when my opponent doesn't clearly explain his move in detail. For example the direction of where it is coming from and ending up.

Exactly. In these forum based RP's detail is the key. I saw a useful thread on OPB made by Kiritsugu which opened my eyes for me even more. I fought my student recently, ZandaT. I can link you the fight so you can see what I did there. It's a showcase of Taijutsu, KG, elemental combos, ninjutsu and these realistic aspects.

Next is range.

Range is a very important factor in the RP. Every technique has it's range and what you have to do is always look at the range of the techniques you and your opponent use. The ranges are short, mid and long.

Short Range: 0 to 5m
Mid Range: 6m to 10m
Long Range: 11m and above

Elemental techniques and Ninjutsu are mostly Short-Long or Short-Mid range. There are only a few short range techniques.

The short range techniques are mostly Ken/Taijutsu, though there are very few techniques which can be used on mid range. Genjutsu is mostly short as well but depending on the technique there are some mid ranged ones. You will never find a Long ranged genjutsu.

Example:

N1 fights N2. They are long range from each other. N1 uses a Short-Mid range fire technique. The technique would disperse on mid range so there you have an opening. N2 can either go underground and do a surprise attack since N1's tech is blocking his sight or he can use a long ranged technique to attack him.

These are just the simplest of scenarios you can do to counter. Going underground is never a smart choice.

Important note: Always check the range of the techniques you use and the opponents techniques.

Please do, link me.

Understood, just want to clarify something. Say there is a technique, and the range states "Short/Long".. thats the same thing as "Short-Long, right? For example I could also do that technique in Mid Range, right? Kind of a dumb question, but I just want to be 100% clear xD

Ex: (Doton: Yomi Numa) - Earth Style: Swamp of the Underworld
Rank: A
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short/Long
Chakra Cost: 30
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user will first perform Boar → Tiger and then by changing the surface of an object beneath an enemy into mud and creating a non flammable swamp, the user can sink his enemy into the mud. The adhesive, chakra-infused mud ensnares the enemy's body, making it almost impossible to recover one's strength and escape from the swamp. The size and depth of the created swamp depends on the user's skill and the amount of chakra used, but if the user is an expert in this technique, it will always be possible to make a fair-sized swamp which is extremely effective against a great number of enemies or when having to face gigantic creatures.

That often leads to confusion in members. If it says Short-Long then you can use it either in Short, Mid or Long range. It's kind of an up to thing. Many of the techniques in the jutsu list say in range "mid" or just "long". That means you can use it in any range between the stated one. If a tech says Long range, you can use it in either Long, Mid or Short. It all depends on the techniques though. But SOTU you can use at any range.

I'll link you via VM.

There are hundreds of things that seem so stupid and unimportant so we don't pay attention to them, so we lose just because we don't pay attention to them. I guess we all just need someone to point us in the right direction.

Next up is terrain. Terrain can be quite useful if you know how to use it. The most popular thing is plain field with or without water source, though you can virtually use anything as a terrain. Desert, forest, canyon, in the middle of the sea, falling from the sky etc.

The last one is for the more ambitious RP'ers. The important thing when you choose the terrain is to play on your strengths. I'm a Wood user so I usually go with a forest as a terrain, though a normal grassy plain or something will do too since I can create a forest at any time. If you are good at using Earth techs than fighting in the middle of the sea isn't good since you need to be in touch with the ground in order to be able to perform most of the techniques. Be sure to choose a terrain which can give you the advantage when fighting your opponent.

Sometimes it has happened to me that either my opponent or myself have forgotten where we are fighting. For example we are fighting in a forest but we are acting like there are no trees so it's just a normal field. People forget things like that especially when they've just began. Always keep in mind where you are fighting and pay attention to what your opponent and yourself are saying.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask them ^^

Good, next up is weather.

Stating the weather at the opening post of a battle can be quite useful. For example if you set the weather to sunny and use Water Release: Rain Tiger at Will Technique, your opponent will know something is not right. It's always smart to state the weather since you can use it to your advantage.

Since this one was short we will cover the next category in this post as well. We will proceed faster that way.

Use of tools:

Tools can be extremely useful, especially when you know how and when to use them. When you are new to the RP and have only a few techniques, tools will be very useful. There are various types of tools from normal offensive projectiles to supplementary distraction projectiles.

Kunai, senbon, shuriken, knives and everything else you could possibly think of can be thrown and used in various ways. The previous categories can also be applied to tools. You can enhance your tools by adding things to them like chakra enhanced wire in order to control them, smoke/flash bombs attached to them to confuse/blind/distract your opponent, exploding tags wrapped around the handles or attached to the back of the weapons to harm your opponent.

The speed and direction of the weapons can be enhanced as well. There are wind techniques which are made specifically for this purpose, though most of the wind techs can be used.

Blocking them can be easy if you know how. The easiest way is to use an earth technique to block their trajectory or use a wind technique to blow them away, but that way you will lose one of the three techniques you can use per move. The less costly way is to intercept them using your own weapons or preventing your opponent to use them in the first place.

You will find that flash bombs are quite useful against people, especially Nara Clan. The light of the bomb will stop their shadows from advancing thus keeping you away from harms way.

In the spoiler below you will find two wind techniques best for enhancing you weapons.

If you have questions ask them. This should cover the realistic aspects. You may pick the next category ^^

(Fūton: Reppūshō) - Wind Release: Gale Palm
Rank: C
Type:Attack/Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points: 30
Description: A simple technique that when the users hands are clapped together, wind is compressed and transformed into a powerful gale. This technique, when used as an isolated attack has the power to easily knock over a human. Though the true value comes from using it together with projectile weapons like shuriken or kunai. Their speed, power, and ability to wound or even kill are all increased several times.

(Fūton: Kaiten Shuriken) - Wind Release: Rotating Shuriken
Rank: C
Type:Attack
Range:Short-Mid
Chakra Cost:15
Damage Points:30
Description: This technique will infuse wind-based chakra into bladed weapons. The user can than manipulate the blades in a spinning manner to attack the target.

Do you happen to have an example of someone stopping their opponent before they could use their ninja tools? I'd like to see how they worded it. I want to make sure that if I tried, I wont break timeframe.

What do you mean by "stopping the opponent before they throw their ninja tools"? You can't stop them from doing that, you can prevent the weapons from reaching you.

I apologize, I misinterpreted that. No other questions.
Oooh, you meant that. Well you pressure them through the flow of the battle so they don't get a chance to use weapons. I apologize for my ignorance.

Haha it's alright. We both had our own moments of confusion.

• Elemental combinations,weaknesses,strengths
Lol, my whole life is a moment of confusion xd.

Elemental combinations are useful if you know how to use them. The wrong combination can be fatal for you though the right one can win you a battle.

As you may know there are five basic elements: Fire, Water, Wind, Lightning and Earth.

Fire
-Weak to water
-Strong against wind

Water
-Weak against earth
-Strong against fire

Earth
-Weak against lightning
-Strong against water

Lightning
-Weak against wind
-Strong against earth

Wind
-Weak against fire
-Strong against lightning

Here is a very useful thread regarding basic elemental combinations. You probably know all of this but it will be helpful to read it.
