Nodding in confirmation, she places her feet firmly in her designated spot. Bending down and taking her sword which is pierced in the now moist and soft ground, she holds it with both hands, and pulls it up to her face. Now taking the moment to complete the next task, she manipulates, and directs her chakra into her blade. Now taking the sword with her left hand, leaving her right one free, she tilts her blade to the side, so that only a thin line can be seen. Without much time wasted, she swings her blade in an arc, that stays exactly one-hundred and eighty degrees as it advances towards the three pillars. As she does this, a crimson, crescent moon-shaped attack, completely slices through all the pillars at once, leaving them half their original size. As the top-half of the now destroyed rock structures plummet to the ground, she smiles as she stabs her black bladed sword underneath the cool surface. "Now that, was pretty cool"

Something akin to a hissing sound filled the air as a crimson wave of pure chakra expelled itself from Michonne's sword, slicing off each of the three pillars as Adachi had instructed earlier. The latter walked up to the broken pieces of earth and examined each of them with in a careful manner. "Very well done," he murmured, running a single finger down the chipped edge of crumbling dirt. "Now, take note that this was a technique that utilized not close range combat, but in fact, has a mid range. As this is an unique technique, allow me a brief moment to discuss in detail with you."

Having been sliced in half by Michonne's technique, Adachi now found the pillars a suitable seating spot. Gripping the end of the left pillar, he swung himself atop the solid structure. "As you know, there are mainly three ranges in battle we classify as short, mid, and long. Each of these range as 0-5 meters, 5-10 meters, and lastly, 10-15 meters. It is important to take note of range at all time during battle as it may cause some techniques to hit or miss. Now, varying ranges have their varying advantages and disadvantages. So I have several questions to pose to you before we move to the following technique.
Firstly, what dangers and risks might you be taking when you expose yourself in short range?
Secondly, how might mid/long range differ from short range in terms of attacks/gravity.
Lastly, I will pose a scenario for you. Let us say your opponent was about mid range from you and he released a sphere of water at you and you planned on countering with the very technique I taught you. How might you aim this technique and why?" Adachi then frowned, seemingly forgetting something. "Ah, yes. Do you happen to have any knowledge of Lightning?"

Crossing her arms with a short exhalence of air through her nostrils, Michonne paces back and fourth, before parting her lips to speak, "Exposing yourself in short-range? Hm, well I suppose it opens the opportunity for all kinds of attacks to hit you. With that being said, then you have the point where it limits your escape routes, due to being so close to your opponent. Secondly, long and mid-range give you a chance to didge the techniques a little bit more accurately, since the opposing attack would take some time, to actually get to you. Now as for gravity like we showed in our drilling techniques, it proved to better aid us at short range, even though those were the requirements. Firing an attack from short range and have it hitting, might back more of a punch due to it being in point blank-range, rather than firing an attack at long or mid-range, and have it hitting. Now regarding the scenario, I would aim horizontally, straight across the middle of the sphere, so it's damaged is halved, if it makes it. As for the lightning question, I know a little, was my first element to master"

"Not only does short range limit your escape routes," Adachi emphasized further. "But being in short range means you have less time to react to moves as they hit faster. Essentially, this is the area where Taijutsu specialists and users of the Gentle Fist excel at greatest, so I bid you to be wary when you know your opponent is one of the following. Gravity plays a part not only in objects that are directly falling downward, as you mentioned, but also in objects that travel in a horizontal direction. The crimson wave only reaches up to mid range mainly due to gravity pulling it down towards the ground and also friction that begins to chip away at its power. With that, you provide a good response to the scenario I proposed. By slicing a strong move directly in half cuts the power in two and depending on the type of projectile, could completely render it useless in comparison to an attack that would brush its side. Assure that you always remember to have a clear focus and aim."

Adachi placed his hands together to form the familiar Tiger handseal once more, creating a clone that stood directly before Michonne. "Now, as you have informed me of your knowledge in Raiton," he began. "I'd like you to think of this next technique as something akin to the flexibility of the chidori. Grip the handle of your sword tightly and begin to call upon your chakra, nature manipulating it into that of Raiton. Run this free flowing technique into your blade and then proceed to stab my clone directly through anywhere on his body. Take note of the effects of the elemental addition and tell me how it affects the general attacks of your blade and the impact it has on my clone."

Removing her sword from the ground, she grips it with her left hand and extends her right one outward in the direction of the clone. Taking in a quick breath, she channels her chakra into her aim, then the sword itself. As sparks begin fly frantically, eventually calming down, one could here a small chirping sound emitting from the now electrical blade itself. Throwing her right hand down and gripping the lower part of the handle, directly under her left hand, she lunges toward the doppleganger at full speed. Coming to a slow halt, she impales it right through the upper part of the chest, a bit to the left of the heart. Now, with the clone dispersed and her sword no longer conducting the electricity produced by her hand, Michonne looks at the original teacher with a small sense of warmth, beginning to part her lips to answer his required question. "Being complented with lightning, naturally the blade's piercing and cutting power is increased, allowing me, or anyone else, to cut through once stubborn objects and targets with relative ease. As for your clone, it makes the penetration alot quicker than a regular sword, due to the properties the lightning possess, really simple stuff"

Adachi nodded. "And not only does it make the cutting stronger, if your opponent was not fatally injured, the Raiton effect also makes them go numb. Also, remember that elemental properties also take effect, so getting yourself out of a situation with earth pillars all around you could make this technique very helpful."

With a single hand, he whipped out his own blade at all, holding it in such a way so that the sword's endpoint was facing sideways. Adachi began rotating it rapidly, creating a blurring circle of flashing steel before his student. "I'd like you mimic this action as well," he told his student. "As this next technique's power lies mainly in this spinning form of an attack. Once you feel that you've grasped this manner of holding the sword and rotating it with ease, I'd like you to set your sights on a clone I will create in due time. The clone itself will be of earth property as it will test the momentum and strength you put behind this technique. Begin by channeling enough chakra into your sword so that it glows blue, indicating an increase in its cutting power. Then taking up a running start, jump in a horizontal direction in the air, spinning your sword in the exact same way I did so that the momentum forward creates a sort of spinning attack that should cut straight through the solid clone." He flashed through several handseals as a clone emerged from the earth, shaping itself to resemble its creator. "Give it a shot now."

Taking her left hand, she begins to twirl her blade, to get a feel for it. As she twirls, she works on her hand-eye coordination to make sure there's no mess ups that could cost her, her life in battle. Now more comfortable with the spinning motion, she halts her sword and channels her chakra into the blade itself; as if it were a conducter for chakra. Within that brief moment, Michonne's sword glows an intense blue to signify her chakra being distributed throughout the entire blade. Bending her knees, she lunges at the clond with full speed, on her way, she leaps into the air in a horizontal direction and begins to spin her sword rapidly. With the momentum aiding her, she advances and descends on the Earth made clone, completely shredding the left side of it's body. Landing on her knees and skidding a few inches before it rips a hole on her pants, she stands up and walks over to her previous location and awaits further instructions.

"Easy there," Adachi informed Michonne, somewhat amused. "It seems you've gotten used to this technique rather rapidly. There's nothing much more for me to add except that since you're giving up body momentum to gravity, any enemy can in fact take advantage of it."

He formed a few handseals, distancing himself from where his student was. "Now, I'm about to use a technique you are familiar with, namely, Nagashi. Stab your sword into the ground much like a lightningrod and then observe what happens to the Raiton that I emit." A field of unfocused lightning was released from Adachi into the training grounds. "Do inform me how this technique might be of use during battle."

Michonne nods her head slightly, a bit confused as first she stabs her sword into the cool surface of the ground, and backs away. Watching Adachi use Nagashi, she notices her sword act like a lightning rod and it attracts the current towards it. She starting to catch on, with a bit of a smile, she folded her arms and walked to where her sword was placed, "Oh, I get it now. I would stab the sword into the ground so it acts as lightning rod, by attracting the unfocused current towards it. Now, I assume the purpose of me stabbing the blade into the ground, was so the lightning would have somewhere to go, other than remain in the blade, right? So, in battle, if my opponent would use Nagashi for example, I would toss my sword before me and watch it pierce the ground, so that it can conduct the lightning then disperse it underneath. I'm going to go out on a limb and say it only works on unfocused lightning techniques, correct?"

"Excellent response." Those were Adachi's only words as he began making his way towards his student, bringing a single hand to rest on the top of his sword. "The technique is rather straightforward and the only other comment I have for it is that it is rather handy when you are unable to use Wind Jutsus as a countermeasure." Stopping directly in front of Michonne, his right hand closed around the handle of his sword, pulling it out in one deliberate motion. "As you may or may not be aware, I am now done teaching you everything that there is regarding techniques of the sword, however..." He lowered his blade so that the point nearly touched the ground. "It's time to put what you've learned to test. Defend to the best of your ability."

He immediately opened with a running start to close the gap between Michonne and himself and upon reaching striking distance, he stepped firmly into the dirt with his left foot whilst bending his knee to a lower stance. As Adachi raised his sword behind his shoulder to prepare for a direct swing at Michonne's left shoulder, his right leg delivered a quick 180 sweep to throw his student off balance and straight into the blunt edge of his weapon.

Finished, finally, Michonne thinks to herself, sighing in relief. She closes her eyes for a moment, going back reviewing everything she so far. Upon opening her eyes, she sees her Sensei dashing at her with his sword in hand, prepared to strike. Adachi then goes for a clean horizontal sweep to throw her off balance, noticing this, Michonne puts this advance first, thinking if he manages to get her off balance, it's over. With the leg coming from beneath her, Michonne leaps into the air to avoid the hit, then she channels her lightning attributed chakra into her sword, giving it attributes similar to Chidori, but channeled in a blade rather than the hand. Due to the hop being just high enough to avoid the kick, she remains in Adachi's range, with his sword now going for the left side of her stomach. Bringing her hand down as swiftly as posssible, she barely intercepts his blade, now because of the properties lightning, she slices through it, leaving it in two pieces. Landing in a crouch, she stands up and looks her Sensei in the eye, dropping her sword, and extending right arm outward for a handshake, "Thanks for everything...."

<_< You may have used the wrong jutsu there...that one has no Lightning property.
Essentially, the basics to remember will be:
Body momentum, gravity, and balance. It's important to plan ahead whenever placing your full power into strikes and potentially also using the opponent's own center of gravity against them. Kenjutsu can also help you out of sticky situations since it can be attributed elements at times and with enough practice, can even defend against many projectiles with quick stabs in the air before them. (I'm reminded of KeotsuEclipse VS Scorps in a sensei test, you should look it up if you ever want to become better at battling.) Think I'm done with everything, sorry for taking so long.
Adachi ignored the handshake, sheathing his sword. "I only hope you will put everything I taught you into good usage." With that, he vanished in a poof of smoke.
