Alright. I don't know if I have already said it, but I'm really honored that you are teaching me, it means a lot to me!
Earth Release is one of the basic elemental nature transformation techniques and allows the user to manipulate the surrounding earth for offensive and defensive purposes. Earth Release techniques have the ability to change the strength and composition of the earth from being as hard as metal to as soft as clay. It also allows the user to travel through ground and rock in various ways.
Earth Release is strong against water as it simply absorbs it, while being weak to lightning as lightning can easily pierce through earth and break it apart.
Earth-natured chakra is a component of the following Kekkei Genkai: Wood Release (Earth + Water) and Lava Release (Earth + Fire).
Earth Release users are, for example: Nagato Uzamaki , Yamato , Kakashi and Hashirama Senju.

Hmm. I'm going to need more detail about Earth release. What makes earth jutsus so sturdy? How do they interact with each of the 5 chakra natures? The first question isnt a serious one but I need some more in depth answers.

Earth can act in a few ways. It can seem to flow, like when an earthquake strikes, or it can be sturdy and rigid, like how it is naturally. Earth is a solid and sturdy element.
Earth Release can let water flow through it or it can absorb water. When used with water, you can create mud. When combined with water, you can use the KG Wood. It can fuse with fire to make lava or it can let the fire rest atop of it. When used with fire, sometimes it can be a super heated earth, almost lava. It can let wind and lightning pass through it or stop it in its tracks. Lightning can easily pierce through earth and break it apart. When someone can combine fire, wind, and earth, one can create the powerful dust, or particle, element. Also Earth is capable of being crystalized and isn't dense enough to stop it.
In both Dark release forms earth itself cannot be absorbed and can serve as a shield to block the release. Steel can overpower earth. Boil can corrode it. Earth cannot contain the explosion of explosion release but can create an extra medium for sound to pass through thus proving to overcome sound. Both Earth and water have substance which make them weak to dust.

As you finish your instructions I immediately start looking at the rock, I then study the rock, next I try to mimic the rock. *Suddenly I sit on the ground* I then try to meditate and to become one with the rock. I close my eyes an begin to relax, listening to the sounds around the training field as I clear my mind of all worries. In my mind I start thinking of what earth nature is: dense, resilient, heavy, stubborn and solid.

As I see the water kunai approaching I quickly start to manipulate my water chakra, by putting enough chakra needed to make a shield into my hand, and then releasing it from my arm which is held outwards in front of me. I'm thinking of of a shield in my mind, and sphere-shaped barrier of water is formed around me, reaching just above my head. Some seconds later I finally create a shield of water that can aide in defense against your water kunai.

You have meditated, but you haven't seemed to grasp the nature that is Doton. Hard, tough, unyielding, resilient. It doesn't break nor bend or compromise it self unless a stronger force is met. Try once more and as a hint, use Earth chakra this time xD

After your orders are given, I immediately stand up and clear my mind, and I'm also making sure to remember what you told me: "Earth is hard, tough, unyielding and resilient. It doesn't break nor bend or compromise it self unless a stronger force is met." As I see the water kunai approaching I quickly start gathering a small amount of earth chakra, by putting enough chakra needed to make a shield, I then send the chakra into the ground and I also manipulate the earth I am standing on. I'm thinking of of a shield in my mind, and after a few second I finally create an shield made out of earth reaching just above my head, that can aide in defense against your water kunai.

That's more of what I was going for, there. Earth chakra is generally associated with solid and sturdiness, at for me anyway. And why did I say "water kunai"... Also, I'm going to be trying out a new type of training that's more work for me, but more beneficial for you, the student. I want you to fill this template out as you reply from her on out, okay?

Strong points
- It can be used in several ways, such as creating different earthen tools for use in battle.
- Great deterrent for knocking the enemy off guard.
- It's also great for making a shield of earth against taijutsu techniques.
- Lightning release technique could cut right through it.
- The technique is not very powerful as a whole, so anything you create is not sturdily built, in that they'd be easy for someone else to destroy.
- It can't be used in Long Range distance.
I would probably use it, to create a shield of earth that will protect me against lower level or same level taijutsu or kenjutsu and even against ninja weapons, for example kunais.
Ways to counter this technique
I would use an lighting release technique. I can also use an higher than D-Rank water release technique to counter it.

Strong points
- You could immobilize stronger ninja with this move.
- If used successfully, it makes for a good set-up for a follow up attack.
- This technique can avoid some fire release techniques, for example fire ball.
- Can't be used for Mid-Long Range.
- Dōjutsu users can track chakra traces and they will eventually find you.
- It can't be used to travel underground, so the opponent has to walk over your location.
You will immobilize your opponent with this technique and after that you will follow up with another technique to land the final blow.
Ways to counter this technique
Well if you have sharingan, byakugan or rinnegan it would be no problem for the dōjutsu user to counter this technique, because he/she will basically she where you are or better said what you are doing.
If you don't have KG, then you will have to use a basic transformation jutsu to counter it.

COrrect, I believe you can only use this in Short range and that would indeed mean no traveling. Also, if not done swiftly, you leave yourself open to counter when you grab them.
