If you are interested in online anonyminity you should check out Tor. It's becoming increasingly more popular outside of the open-source community with ports to Windows and Mac OS X as well as the smartphone market.
Tor uses some interesting techniques to lose your IP address. In addition to Tor, there are other projects: Torbutton, Tor browser, Vidalia and Arm.
Tor is legal in every country. There are no backdoors. Tor is supported by the EFF.
Definately one of the cooler projects to come out this year.

can you do a peace on personal firewalls??? I think that might be useful for a lot of us
Actually, I'm (partially) rebuilding my home network over the next 2 weeks, and one of the things I'm doing is making a new firewall.
It will sort of look like this:

You must be registered for see images

The firewall is just my old desktop and a stripped down version of Gentoo linux, with a custom iptables script. Something that can be built with spare parts or a $50 used computer.
I don't know if that's what you would be looking for

It isn't very difficult. If you have a cable/dsl modem, a router of some sort and two computers (one for the firewall and one for your desktop) it's just a matter of putting it all together.
I don't know any other way I could do something on firewalls. You either use some propietary software and trust that company, or you write your own.
