Literally just everything. I'm not writing this because I'm pissed off at the popularity/it's mainstream, or because I "don't get it" or anything of the sort. So just crap those insults right into the toilet, flush 'em down the drain, and think up some new ones.

We have repetitive songs with the same exact thing. Nearly all sounds the same, talking about drugs, ***, money, women. Lust, greed. Sure you might have heard this millions of times over, but the other ones that are "meaningful" just talk about the hard life and the street, or talks about basically these same guys who are rapping about the stuff above. It's really an oxymoron and a paradox.

While doing this, rap usually expresses negative life styles and is a negative influence to the majority who listen. Passing fads come and go. Dress styles, Dances, etc. It was also criticized in the early 90's up until now for influencing street violence, gang crimes and much more.

Hip hop is overall a negative genre. Negative to the point where they attack themselves. Yes, this is called "dissing", released in diss tracks to other people, sometimes even multiple other "artists" < -- a term I use loosely, at once. Then it goes back and forth into a feud, or what they call, "beef". Which will get situated in virtually a second, or nearly ever. I'm sorry, but can someone oh please tell me, what other genre do you see doing this? Tell me of the diss tracks madonna has given to lady gaga. The diss tracks from slayer to some deathcore band. Metallica to some current metal band. Linkin Park or Gorillaz to some random alt. rock band that's currently active. ****ING DAFT PUNK TO SKRILLEX? No, you don't see it ANYWHERE else but hip hop.

Hip Hop is absolutely awful.

The Country Genre being "going in".

Edited: Rap/Hip Hop nowadays is some poo. Yes, I'm generalizing because they represent Rap/Hip Hop as a whole and not one individual. #Hip Hop is Dead

No, it isn't awful. Hip hop is dead. Drake, Rick Ross, that's all pop music. Get used to the swaggots bro, they have taken over.

Hip-Hop is all about competition. Most mainstream artists suck, I dislike most of them (Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Future, Rick Ross, anyone else that sucks). But if you really want to hear real hip-hop, underground hip-hop is where the real words and positivity are bound to be, true lyricism is around somewhere. There are some like Kendrick Lamar and Eminem who are mainstream, who are true lyricist with different styles (which I know you wouldn't like). If you really dig deep, you'll find something you like if you would even bother trying to get into. Criticizing it won't make it any better, all we can hope for is that it grows a new route into positivity.

And what the people above posted, Hip-Hop is dead. But there are some trying to revive it and steal the competition.

I've listened to Kendrick Lamar and Eminem's entire Discography. All other genres are about competition too, you don't see them negatively impose this upon competition. And what does this solve? Lil Kim, someone highly inactive randomly came out and dissed nicki minaj back in 2010. It's not about "competition". There is NO excuse for 'dissing".

Yeah, dissing and creating "beef" is what fans want. Money is the main objective of most. Kendrick wanted to bring back the competition aspect of Hip-Hop. As you may have heard of his "Control" verse in Big Sean's track. Kendrick has dissed others, only because they dissed him. Someone like Lil Kim appearing out of nowhere dissing upcoming artists is foolish, she could of pulled a Snoop Dogg (Lion) and collaborated with upcoming artists.

Hip Hop is not awful. you seem to be missing the fact that Record Executives are the ones in control of what is released; not the artist in most cases.

the negative connotation to Hip Hop is evidence of the fact that record Execs with a secret agenda have succeeded in destroying what could have been impactful in a good way, opting instead to release music that would influence young minds for the soul purpose of decaying the moral fabric of an upcoming generation who listen to these songs over and over again, subconsciously taking on the message behind the music.

There ARE good Hip Hop artists. Listen to Talib Kweli and DJ Hi-Tek 'Reflection Eternal' Album. The message is much better. Or even listen to Nas song 'Heaven'.

Music is a very powerful tool. I am a singer myself (soulful) and know the influential effect music has on people. I question why Record Execs favour negative music... and then look around with disappointment at the kids who listen to it and how they are conducting themselves and speaking (that's a bit of a generalization but i think you get what i am saying).

Some years ago I was about to sign a contract with a Record Label, but was told beforehand that they would want to change me into a *** symbol as it would generate alot of money. I realised the music industry is not for me for that reason. It is all superficial: Negative influence taking precedence over the true message of the artist. Many people cant turn it down as the offer of money and wealth is too appealing... and so they feed the machine of negativity.

I choose to sing in Church instead as at least i remain true to the talent i have been given.

However... as i said: there ARE some extremely talented Hip Hop artists out there who have a better message. The irony is that you dont hear much about them.... i wonder why...

No excuse? Pft. No need for an excuse. You don't like someone and know you the best, you tell them. The artist felt it was respecting enough to "diss" another artist through battle. This battles were known as Cypher. That is were Hip Hop begins.....

Coming up on Hip Hop's Tale: We have a rapper on this side... and a rapper on that side. A crowd in the back, everybody hype. Lol #Toostupid

Money can't be earned a different way? Please. It's for the greed of money and the lust for more attention. Exactly as stated, you can't refute what someone as prominent as Lil Kim did, and it's happened before millions of times. The competition aspect never died, sure there was one time where it was born, but it never died. Are you telling me Kendrick Lamar's Control was the first big time diss in a long time?

No, I might be trying to be funny but it is some truth to my words. History of Hip Hop. ;) You could be right about the negativity it brings than the positive outlook of negativity shown against the African American community back in those days. However, you must understand that this is a new age were music is not express openly for the African American community but against the Music Industy. Like some one said above, artist have to change their lives just to perfect an image to sale music, to make a quick buck. They have to be the next big thing and maintain it. Even have to, in Lil Kim's Case, knock down any "competition" that stand at the top. Unfornately, Nicki Manij was big back then. She was every female MC competition.

Not gonna lie, Hip Hop is pretty evil at times. It can be violent and repulsive. And we ****ing love it. So, if you dislike it, that's cool, but don't call it "awful". To be a rapper like Rakim, Run-DMC, Tupac, Eminem, Jay-Z, B.I.G., Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, even Kanye West, Hopsin and Tech N9ne, you need talent and skill. Even though there are negative sides, there are lots of positive sides. You know how many people have felt like shit and killing themselves, but didn't cuz Hip Hop made them feel better? It's ok if you don't like it and choose not to listen to it, but don't put down something so many of us hold dear.

This dude right here knows it. Especially since he included J. Cole in his list.

Wasn't saying Kendrick's Control verse was a diss, it was a call for competition. Simply stated. He wants to revive it when it's at its lowest state.

Something tells me you have a very shallow database of rap music. You should at least try to find counter points to your claim before spewing them out there. Check people like Slug from Atmosphere, Cecil Otter, POS, Brother Ali, Eyedea, George Watsky, Classified, Sadistik(very misleading name for the content he sings about), Murs, Grieves, Aesop Rock(check 'No Regrets'), Sage Francis, Soul Khan, Jurassic 5, Del the Funky Homosapien, Macklemore, Spose, Mac Lethal(Jake + Olive), Kristoff Krane, these are just the ones I know I'm sure there are plenty others out there.

Or how about this song by Danja Mowf
Check Spose's 'I'm Awesome' and 'Gee Wilikers'
