[Discussion] Tobi's mangekyou sharingan

In order to obtain the mangekyou sharingan you must kill a friend if not your best. In kakashi's case a friend dying when he obtained the sharingan 'obito'( or he got it some other way maybe killing Rin ?) who knows. Anyway was just wondering how did Tobi activate his am I missing something or what?
