I'm going with Kagami or Obito. Kagami was the student of Tobirama, who developed space time jutsu, and he is around the same age as Danzo and Hiruzen. Him and Danzo were also missing from Hiruzen's team during the kyubi attack. He would also been alive during the time of Madara. Obito I'm still open minded about due to hints. Obito and Tobi are just the kanji reversed and letters swapped. Obito's crushed part of his body is same side as Tobi's zetsu half. He also has similar space time jutsu as kakashi's MS on the opposite side.

Obito & Kagami were not factors like Shisui. At the time Shisui was the strongest Uchiha Alive (Besides Madara) by far. Shisui= Tobi, Obito was to young to fight Minato however Shisui was old enough and had an advanced Sharigan. Tobi= Shisui he uses all of the same techniques as Shisui "The Body Flicker"!

1) Stop putting the official tag when it doesn't exist.
2) How did Shisui get another pair of eyes when one was stolen by Danzo and one given to Itachi.

just straigt up no itachi said when he met up with shisui that one eye had already been taken by danzo so how the **** wld he get a third eye to give to itachi explain that part to me then mabey ill consider ur opinion it just dsnt make sense how you look that over like really man itachi said he helped dispose of his body to that like saying so6p=tobi because he got mad and wanted to take over the world cmon guy

I thought Shisui has gotten both his Sharingan taken from him by now. That meaning... How could be Tobi when he didn't have any Sharingan left? :/ I could be being simple mined and might not have read correctly I guess but maybe someone can clear this one up for me? x.x

I think the best candidate by far is Obito, simply because of all the coincidences involved.
1. He uses his right eye.
2. Space/time ability similar to Kakashi's
3. His unusual regeneration on the same side Obito had been injured.
4. Not really a big coincidence, but how you can rearrange Obito to spell Tobi
5. His age fits perfectly to how old Obito would be in present time.
The only thing that is a mystery is how his personality drastically changed if it is in fact Obito. Gotta remember also that we never saw him die, he was in the process of dying.

People don't underestimate this theory yet, i have a feeling it might be shisui. As for the eyes, it could just be that he got new ones implanted by killing a random uchiha.
If we think outside the box, Shisui was called shisui the teleporter and knew body flicker, like is'nt that what Tobi's main ability is? Teleportation? This theory is very much possible and only a fool would rule it out too soon.

It's just speculation, but I think I'm reneging my original theory bc the databook shows Kakashi around his late 20's and assuming Obito would be around the same age, it doesn't fit Tobi's assumed age, and also he appears much older.

First up, disregard the wiki. It has many false facts and is fan made. Give links from the manga.
And he entrusted it because he had Itachi under his control duh. He was the ultimate genjutsu master and his agenda was to bring peace to the world by infinite tsukiyomi. One tech may have been gifted to help throw itachi off track and to make him believe that shisui was dead and tobi was madara.
then point to the manga that his body flicker technique is indeed a teleportation method?
if body flicker is teleportation the the moves that naruto pull off against raikage and kisame is hairashin.
