Itatchi didn't just simply sacrifice his life.

Itatchi's sacrifice is above and beyond any other ninja in the Leaf. He took it upon himself to right the wrongs of his clan, so there would be no civil war. Murdered his own family. Gave up his good name and walked away from the village he loved to become a deep cover spy. Used the last days of his life to set things up for Sasuke to become one Konaha's greatest defenders (armed with his eyes and mindset changed by KA genjutsu).
