How could Madara have been Tobi until Akatsuki when he died way before that?

Only real explanation could be is if Obito was born at the death of Madara.

Here he didn't agree or disagree to what Kakashi said, he is still trying to keep that "I'm no one" background. Example when the shinobi world referred to him as Uchiha Madara he let everyone call him like that but at the end he wasn't the most bad-ass character in Naruto history.

Kishi is doing this just for everyone who doesn't want to believe that he's really Obito while at the same time making the character stay true.

The reason Obito said "Whether *I* survived or not is not important" is that he isn't the same as he was then - Not the way he sees it atleast.
Everyone can change, and that's what he did. So he doesn't consider himself the same person he was back then.

I am disapointed if this will end like tobi-obito Obito's actions over the following years are largely unknown.
