Soon the manga will be done and over with... and people will still argue about this. Kishi... you've created a monster. A real life monster. Our generation is going to be in old folks homes, beating each other with walkers, Cains and throwing dentures over this.

"Whether *I* survived" is a play on words in reference to his (eye) kumai powered sharingan. This could also mean that his body is being used too. lololol

Konoha was founded 80 years ago, and lets say Hashi/Madara both had 25/30 years in their fight, (wich was after konoha founding) 75 years+25/30= 100/105 years, if you live longer with hashirama cells, that's "not much" old.
He could be in the verge of death, but we have seen the example of orochimaru, in the verge of death, in a bed with all kind of drugs, and still teaching sasuke, it could be something like that.
And to help obito live, i'd say he needed the help of zetsu.
Well, as we have seen in the manga, we dont really know when did madara die. We "knew" it was in the fight with Hashirama, but now we know that's not true, and he gathered some Hashirama dna/chakra cells, which, also in the manga, have been said to make you life longer.
Konoha was founded 80 years ago, and lets say Hashi/Madara both had 25/30 years in their fight, (wich was after konoha founding) 75 years+25/30= 100/105 years, if you live longer with hashirama cells, that's "not much" old.
He could be in the verge of death, but we have seen the example of orochimaru, in the verge of death, in a bed with all kind of drugs, and still teaching sasuke, it could be something like that.
And to help obito live, i'd say he needed the help of zetsu.

Why people didn't expect Tobi to be Obito.
1-Kishi. made Obito to be some shi* fodder character who was used to boost Kakashi's power.And also gave him a losers mentality in Kakashi Gaiden.
2-It was a bit obvious because Kishi. had been deliberately dropping hints time after time making some people to think he was trying to trick them but actually,most people here were double-crossed xd
3-Nobody really thought that Kakashi Gaiden would be relevant to the plot at the moment.
4-Nobody thought such a character-at that time-would manage to survive huge boulders which damaged his body .
All I can think of ATM.Feel free to add more.

My Theory about Zetsu/Tobi/Obito/Madara/Nagato
I guess the manga directly suggest that Tobi is really Obito underneath, but that has too many plot holes.
1st and foremost is his ability, Kakashi is said to be a genius so Kakashi certainly has to be better than Obito in a combat. But as we all know Tobi directly fought Minato who is a Hokage level shinobi 16 Years ago, Obito would probably be 15 that time. Kakashi wouldn’t have a chance if he fought Minato when he was 16 y/o. Sasuke also an Uchiha and unlike Obito he is a genius level ninja, trains up his ass for quite sometime now and he got an aid from Orochimaru, Itachi and Tobi to reach his current level and still Kakashi can keep up with Him. There’s no way that Obito would level up that fast 16 years ago.
2nd The sinister mind, from the Kakashi Gaiden, Obito died with a good heart. Nagato change over time because of the continuous suffering he’s encountering. He’s parents were murdered by Kohona shinobi so there were already great hatred in his heart. Unlike Obito he has not much of a reason. If he did really survive I guess the first thing he would do is go home and meet his parents. As other theories out there Obito/Tobi has this Zetsu kind of thing. From 1 theory that I have read Zetsu was created from a parasitic plant ofcourse base from Harashima’s DNA and this characteristic is also in Tobi’s body. Obito would not plot anything this big just because he blame Kakashi for Rin’s Death.
From out of the box point of view a mastermind or a super villain should be a powerful, knows almost everything about the shinobi world and an experienced one to plot menace. Obito by any chance can never exceed Nagato in this department. A Rinnegan is far more superior than just a basic sharingan. Nagato is older and more experienced. He said he have founded Akatsuki together with Konan and Yahiko. So there is no way they will take order from a young boy instantly.
As I remember Tobi introduce himself to Deidara as a new member of Akatsuki, Deidara do not know Him, meaning looks like he’s really new. Nagato takes order from a masked guy but treated Tobi as a new recruit.

Kisame only acknowledge the masked guy when he showed his face. Someone he knew from the past. Here’s the catch. Itachi was never bothered by Tobi’s action during the meeting but he cast a something on Sasuke’s eyes before he died in an instance the mask man show his sharingan. Itachi said the one who helped him to massacre the whole Uchiha clan was Madara Uchiha. I don’t think Itachi could be fooled so easily by a mask and can not sense chakra.
It is quite mind boggling actually, The real Madara expect something when He was revive with edo and seems He plot something and that didn’t go well according to plan that’s why he said “This is something “He” would do….. Though it seems that things aren’t going according to plan” He knew who Tobi is and that is the key.

The only explanation I could think of regarding the facts and events are the following:
There were 2 masked man. 1 was really Madara Uchiha - during the fight with Minato and annihilation of the Uchiha Clan and Tobi the cocky guy the one who replaced Sasori’s slot in Akatsuki. Obito is the vessel of Tobi. Madara who plotted everything created Tobi out of Zetsu particle and Obito’s body. Tobi is what was left of Madara’s will and Obito is the body. Just like Orochimaru trying to make sasuke as a vessel. Sasuke should be alive if he’ll be use as vessel right? Madara need a Uchiha body not dead but alive to fully use the power of a sharingan that is why Obito is needed.
Now the switch… Madara probably is getting weaker and weaker so before the time he dies he made a plan to be resurrected through a scheme, he entrusted this scheme to Tobi, When? When Tobi appeared as a member of Akatsuki. So my theory is the masked man was Madara all along and just shifted to Tobi when he died probably after sometime when he was introduced in the Akatsuki, But Obito/Tobi was in Madara’s care since his little accident.
