This is my first thread so I hope that I'm doing this right and in the right place. Please forgive me if this isn't the right place.
I am aware that for quite a few years now, there has been many speculations as to who and/or what Tobi is. I am not here to start up another long drawn out debate or to speculate who I think he is.
To me it doesn't really matter who Tobi is. The facts are, whoever he is:
1) He knows a lot about Madara
2) He calls himself Madara
3) & He has Madara's eyes.
-Remember that Sasuke has Itachi's eyes yet when Itachi was Edo summoned he also had his eyes (although they were darkened)-

From what we know and have seen the Rinnegan can only be awakened by someone who has the DNA of both of the Senju and Uchiha. I believe that after Madara accumulated Hashirama's DNA 'HE' and Tobi did experiments on his own body to awaken the Rinnegan.
I believe that Madara's death at the moment of awakening the Rinnegan was in effect, directly related to these experiments. When he died, Tobi wasn't sure whether or not it was safe to use the Rinnegan (as Madara just died when it was awakened in him). So he implants Madara's eyes into a worthy, blood compatible victim (Nagato) essentially making him a guinea pig
This would also explain exactly why he gave Nagato the Rinnegan as apposed to using it himself from the start.
Side note:
For those of you who will argue that the way Madara is using the Rinnegan in the current manga proves that he used it, before he died. Let me point out that Madara himself (EDO) states that he died right after awakening it. Which means that at the current moment, what we are witnessing is his prowess as one of the most Powerful Shinobi to Exist in the Narutoverse. I mean, to be able to use all of these abilities that he has never used before and with such good effect?! that is simply amazing.
Extra:
Tobi not only has Madara's eyes but also the eyes of many other Uchiha and even controlled Kurama at one point. Because of this, many people have been stating that he has to be an Uchiha. So to end this thread, let me supply some food for thought: Have you ever seen Tobi with an un-ativated sharigan?
Please give sensible replies if you disagree. If you have a different opinion to anything I have said above, I would appreciate it if you gave a good reason as apposed to just *I disagree* etc... please give reasons. Thank you
