If he gives me a legit reason why, then Hiruzen probably has the same thing he can use. Most likely Taijutsu

I've always looked at the battle as orochimaru being a cat and Hiruzen was the mouse. The cat plays with the mouse before killing it, but it just so happens the mouse has a bunch of C4 strapped to it's chest and BOOM! down goes the cat ....and the mouse.
