I think this rule should be removed. It is completely unnecessary and it doesn't even have a purpose. People are still going to say what they want to say, and at the end of the day, I find it really stupid to punish someone just for talking about a drawing. People are too sensitive to deal with negativity and criticism. Is that why this rule even exists? You see this all the time in forums and during debates between two opposing teams. One side will try to defend their side and the other side will do the same. If one person decides to talk trash about a certain character or how that said character is "weak" or a "fodder", I see no reason to make a big deal out of it. If you have the ability to control yourself and handle what they have to say then it shouldn't be a problem but at the end of the day they are just characters created on paper. They are not your siblings. They are not real people. They are not going to hurt you if they are being bashed or talked about. To be honest, they couldn't care less about you because they are not even real.

The problem with this rule is that it is put into place for those who are too sensitive and too weak to handle it, so this rule has to be put in place just for those who can't handle different opinions.

Remember this:
"Making fun of certain characters/character pairings leads to a pointless thread filled with insults and general rule breaking."

What does this really mean now? It means that if I call Kiba a loser and someone gets mad when I called Kiba a loser then I am the one who gets in trouble, and to top it off, that said person who got upset will probably call me a loser back, and so on, but it shouldn't be my problem that he decided to call me a loser because of a drawing. It shouldn't be my problem if people can't control their anger and decide to get upset and cry because a character they like was bashed.

Not every character in a story will be liked and not every character in a story will be favored. If I find a character in a story to be a loser or lame then I see no reason for a rule to be put into place just because people don't like what I have to say. Freedom of Speech? Yeah, Freedom of Speech my ass.

I agree. The reason why the rule is terrible, in addition to what you said, is because character overrating/fanboying/wanking/whatever is allowed, and whenever that happens, "character bashing" inevitably follows. So, should blatantly "overrating" a character be against the rules too, since that also leads to flame wars? Quite frankly, the characters are not real, so we should be allowed to criticize them as much as we want.

yes people are entitled to there opinion of a character etc but some people take it to far when they bash a char to be honest i get that everyone has there dislikes but i say you got nothing good to say dont say it at all i have chars i dont like but i dont see the need to bash them in the first place.

another thing i will say is if ppl are bashing the chars i like i just ignore it there is no point feeding the troll.

also bashing on a fictional charter that was created is pointless

And getting upset and reporting to a staff for bashing a fictional character is pointless.
but if the person bashing a fictional char did not bash in the first place there would be no reason for someone to report them so problem solved.

i do not see the point in bashing a fictional char just cause you don't like them.

i mean okay make lists of liked to least liked etc but no need to bash them.

Why can't I bash a fictional character? Will it hurt you?

If my actions influence them then that's their problem. Not mine.
You're a part ....of an anime forum .....you freedom stops once it crosses the other person's freedom,Meaning they have the right to look at threads without being annoyed or intimidated by bashers.I understand your point but still its little selfish don't you think........

Bashing= " a harsh, gratuitous, prejudicial attack on a person, group, or subject". That is a motivated assault, which leads to hate crimes.

"To criticize (another) harshly, accusatorially, and threateningly"

"To engage in harsh, accusatory, threatening criticism."

Having an opinion is one thing but it's a formal platform to share and exchange opinions not a gangster's den. We encourage diversity of opinions and a welcoming atmosphere for differing views. Whether a rule is defined as such or not, persistent comments of extreme nature are detrimental to forum discussions as it discourages normal people from participating in threads amid aggressive extremists. That in turn generates SPAM and flame wars among the rest.

So the answer is, 'no'. No bullying others to accept your views or your line of thought, no insulting or hating and no bashing to other persons or members, nor to a writer, a manga, or a character which leads to pointless arguments and flames.

Thank you.

Who said idiotic troll posts overrating a character are allowed? Just hit the report button and staff will handle it.

Yeah, as Avani wrote. There is a big difference in disliking and bashing. Everyone is allowed to have their favorites and own opinions. The rules is there to prevent people to make the discussions personal, cause that's what it essentially leads to every time. Many trolls used this and still is using it for baiting. They write a controversial post about a character or purposely trash talk a character without any grounds to get the attention of that characters fans, everytime it works and the flamewar is started. So we need a rule that states this is not allowed so that we can easily just trash this type of threads. However a different story is if you dislike a character for some reason, and you want to share your honest views on it.. you need to have proper grounds and back it up with information and proof, while not offending the people that won't agree with you or have another view on it. Even in this cases we have this rule that we can enforce if things get out of hand, when it turns to proper insults and bashing. And then it's up to each moderator of said section to judge if said thread or posts should be deleted, and if the user should be warned or infracted.

So examples:

OK
I don't like CharacterX because of what he did in chapter 4...(yada yada yada yada).

NOT OK
CharacterX is a retard.

NOT OK
You are stupid for thinking CharacterX is the best

So the rule is really needed for obvious reasons. So the purpose of the rule is really to prevent people from purposely try to piss others off.
