What on earth will make someone to be sexually attracted to a close blood relation like a sister, brother, cousin, mother or father? In most cultures of the world, incest, which is sexual experience with a blood relation, is regarded as a taboo, a grievous abomination before God and the deities. The act is even punishable in some culture with death or eternal ostracization or banishment.
In another culture, people found guilty of this act were forced to dance naked round their markets, and finally settle at the shrine, where they will make sacrifices to appease the gods for defiling the land.
Surprisingly, despite the fact that the two holy books, Bible and Koran are against all forms of sexual immorality, including incest, some people still indulge in incest.
In recent time, some ugly cases of incest were recorded, with some prompting reasonable people to think of meting out jungle justice to those who committed the act. One of the most recent cases was the act of one Mr. Emmanuel Obot, 46 years, who did not only rape his two daughters severally, but ended up impregnating one of them.
Obot, who claimed to be a clearing and forwarding agent, and resides at 3 Jadesola Street, Mende, Maryland, Lagos State, committed the offence on April 3 and 15, thereby contravening Sections 86, 214,230, 249, 355 357 and 360(d) of the criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
In perpetrating the evil act, Obot warned his two daughters aged 22 and 24, that he would kill them, if they fail to give in to his incestuous desires. In one occasion, he willfully destroyed one of the girl's skirt and blouse, valued at about N10, 000, in the process of forcefully gaining entry into his daughter's honey pot. Just like a super story in a super movie, he impregnated one of the daughters, and obtained abortion for her. The other was flogged on many occasions for struggling with her father, thereby preventing him from gaining access into her private part on those occasions.
However, the good story about this ugly saga is that the shameless Obot has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment, by an Ikeja Magistrate Court, presided over by Magistrate O.A Adedayo.
The magistrate ordered the man to be kept behind bars, after finding him guilty on an eight count charge of assault, battery and rape. Surprised that a father in his right senses could have canal knowledge of his two daughters, simultaneously, the Magistrate who handed the sentence to Obot had to ask his family members if he had any record of mental derailment, to which they answered in the negative.
According to the magistrate, "it is the most atrocious of crime that could be meted out on one's flesh and blood. The action of the accused will leave a psychological torture on the girls." He advised the family to take the ladies to a sound minister of God for counseling. One revelation on this incest case was that the mother of the victims had left their father, and therefore packed out of their house, which probably gave Mr. Obot the chance to commit this abomination.
If the case of the ladies above is pathetic, what of that of 16 years old Miss Aminat Adeleke, a confirmed virgin, deflowered by her own father in Ibadan, Oyo State.
As the innocent girl narrated, her mother died some time ago, having suffered severe beatings and abuse in her father's hand. After the death of her mother, her maternal grand mother took her away from the father to take good care of her.
However, as fate had it, her father came to the village one day and told her grand mother that he has finished building his house at Ibadan, and needed his daughter to join him.
Not suspecting any hidden agenda from her son in- law, she gladly allowed father and daughter to go to Ibadan, to enjoy their new house. On arrival to Ibadan, Aminat discovered to her disappointment that her father had no hut of his own, not to talk of a house, and that he was living in a small rented one- room apartment.
Well, she took it calmly that her father, who was suppose to guide her, by telling her not to tell lies, was now the person shamelessly celebrating lies. Her father, Mr. Rasak Adeleke, 36 years old, later changed his name to Olaolu, and that of Aminat to Esther, when he claimed that he has become a prophet.
Then, one evil night, when the devil in her father reared its ugly head, he woke Aminat up, and told her the he was about to do something that will help her grow up properly in life, and prevent her from dieing prematurely. He gave her a black soap and instructed her to go and bath with the soap. After bathing, she came back and lay on the bed. The father, changing to scene two of his evil plot, ordered her to remove her cloth for him to rub medicine on her body. She, like Isaac did in the Bible, obeyed him.
When her daddy started caressing her erogenous zones, she became afraid, and quickly reminded her father that what he was about to do was an abomination and besides, that she was still a virgin, as no man has touched her.
The shameless he- goat of a father warned her not to shout as he was ready to kill her if she raised alarm. Hopelessly, she lay on that cursed bed, taking it all, in serious pains, and watching the same phallus which produced her, defiling her, by being the first sugar stick to shamelessly navigate her internal anatomy.
When concerned people took her father to the police station, this man from Badeku, in Owa- Ara Local Government Area, Oyo State, said "Oga journalist, whenever I wanted to have *** with my daughter, I will see a resemblance of my late wife, Fatimo. Please assist me. It is the devil's work. It is true that I made love to my daughter, and I know that I have committed a grave sin"
But the defiled daughter, Aminat, weeping uncontrollably, lamented that, "I did not have any boy friend before, it was my own father that actually deflowered me, and I don't know how I am going to leave with this agony for the rest of my life."
She later gave birth to a baby boy, whom she named Samuel Abiara. The poor innocent boy was taken to motherless baby home, for possible adoption, at least, to free the little girl from further trauma. Just like the case of Obot, who assaulted two of her daughters, Aminat, s mother was not equally around when she was defiled, as she had since died.
As if the bestiality in these men has not finished, Mr. Raphael Idiong Ugwude, 36, raped two of his own daughters, Preye, and Ini, who were 10 and 14 years old respectively, at the time of their defilement. Like in Aminat, s case, their mother had also died, thereby giving the irresponsible father the opportunity to destroy her daughters sexually.
This randy father started his perversion with Preye, the older daughter. Somehow along the line, the younger daughter, Ini, noticed what their father was doing with Preye, and when she summoned courage to ask Preye, she threatened Ini that she would tell their father to stop giving Ini feeding money, if she did not keep her mouth shut.
And since their mother was not around, and feeding entirely depends on what their father gives out, the young Ini was cowed to submission and the illicit sexual behaviour between father and daughter continued.
One Sunday, when the family was ready for church service, their father asked the older daughter to proceed that he will come with Ini. When others had left and he was left alone with Ini in the house, he bounced on the innocent girl and raped her repeatedly.

Another father, Mr. Emmanuel Hassan, equally 36 years old, was sentenced to five years in prison for sexually abusing his 13 year- old daughter, Hassana, in Sabere, Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
In this case, his daughter claimed she reported her father's sexual torture to an aunt, who pleaded with him to stop the madness, but he refused. As her daughter further claimed, "He beats me up, inflicts wounds on my body to weaken me before gaining entry into my body"
But for Miss Ibidimi, who is just 17 years, her ordeal started when her mother, a civil servant, was transferred to Abuja, which made her to be staying alone with her father, as the mother visits home periodically.
She noticed that one night, her father came to her room and started behaving funny, by attempting to caress and fondle her breastsWhen she resisted, she said "my father pulled me to himself and touched my breasts painfully. I tried to scream, but he said he would kill me if I did. He dragged me to the bed and forced his way into my body. I cried and cried for help, but nobody could hear me. Later he brought two dark-looking tablets and gave me to drink. When I refused, he forced me to take them or I should be ready to become the laughing stock of a girl impregnated by her father."
It is disheartening that in our own environment, and not in the western world, some men could descend too low to abuse daughters they gave birth to, without thinking twice.
Mrs. Adeze Ojukwu, a concerned mother and international defender of gender equality, women and child rights, described incest, especially the one which involved father on daughter as "very ugly in the sight of God, among reasonable members of the society, and also an abomination in the African culture."
She suggested that, "men who shamelessly indulge in incest, should be severely punished, and there should be stringent laws to check incest in our society"
A psychologist, Miss Oluwakemi Olujobi said that, "incest could be a result of psychological derailment on the part of the persons who indulge in it. The offender needs to be pitied and helped, because, he was degenerating to the status of an animal. Such people, after serving their prison terms, or while in jail, should be visited by psychologists, who will properly bring them back from their state of derailment"
But a cleric, Pastor Tunde Ewelamo, sees the whole saga from the point of spiritualism. "Any father who sleeps with her daughters have spiritual problem. It is either he has been bewitched by negative super forces to disgrace him before the people, or he belongs to a secret cult, which demanded that for him to acquire a special spiritual power, or attain a certain position in life, he must sleep with his own blood, a daughter, to get that position."

Another respondent, Mrs. Grace Aduba, said, "Any man who is fascinated by the looks of his own daughter, to the extent of sleeping with her is a complete lunatic. Such a person has descended to the level of King Nebuchadnezzar in the Bible, and was not supposed to be kept alive, five minutes after he was caught in that shameful act."
Mrs. Angelina Onyekozu thundered, "what kind of man will sleep with his own daughter. That is pure madness. Even if the girl is a step daughter, it is still a taboo to do that.
In fact, if I am in a place where a man is caught doing that, I will be among the first to stone him to death. Such wicked souls should not live among descent men."
With the gory details of how some beasts, who call themselves fathers destroyed the joy of their daughters, it will not be out of place if the law on rape and incest is made more drastic. In fact, one may be tempted to fall in line with the sharia law, which stipulates death sentence, as punishment for such sordid acts, in a descent society like ours. The police and various courts should not pity any person caught in this ungodly act.
