This entire flashback has been pretty much pointless for us the fan. Sasuke might not know why Madara left the village and how Hashirama joined the nations in war-torn times BUT. WE. DID. I have learnt almost nothing knew about the Hashirama/Madara story in the last six or so chapters, it's all just details we already knew and a very simplified and basic retelling of the origin story we already know.

It's basically the same as if we had got a whole flashback about Obito's death right after Tobi got unmasked. We KNOW IT.

So to me the six last chapters been in vain and also in a horribly placed moment of the manga (I am MUCH more interested in the 5 Kage, The main battlefield and Naruto. Nothing else should matter at this moment, the dramatic tension of the final battlefield is constantly decreasing because we keep cutting away to EXPOSITION. CHAPTERS OF EXPOSITION. Huge battles huge battles huge battles- HEY, WANT TO KNOW WHAT JUUGO & SUIGETSU ARE UP TO!? WELL HERE YOU GO. Battle reaches it's climax - HEY! HERE'S A STORY ABOUT HASHIRAMA AND MADARA'S LIFE THAT YOU COULD BASICALLY JUST ASSUME.

The thing is, not only - has it been a waste of paper and a major buzzkill but the flashback itself is making everyone involved look like fools. Hashirama is more one-dimensional than a tree, Tobirama is made to look unfairly like a massive prejudiced prick and Madara. OH MY GOD MADARA. I honestly wish they'd never brought Madara back into the Narutoverse- first Kishimoto turns one of the coolest and most sympathetic legends in the Naruto mythos into just another arrogant Uchiha douche (because the manga doesnt have enough of them huh) but now he's also making him just look stupid! The last panel in today's new manga made me pretty mad. "Hey Hashirama i'm not too cool with the way you're running things. HEY DID I MENTION? IM ALSO EVIL NOW LOL" Was just so...transparent. It's almost bad writing.

Because there is SO much potential with the story. Hashirama doesn't have to be some older Naruto clone and Madara should have waaaaay more depth than this. They're the legends of the Shinobi world for christ sake. The whole Uchiha turning against Madara, the grief Madara went through after losing his brother, this should all be so much more expanded! But no, they just mention it like some cramped summary of the Hashi/Madara story, mentioning some details and not going into the bits that should matter.

I LOVED the beginning of this flashback, the bit as kids was fun to read because I was genuinely hooked and I wanted to see it going somewhere! But it's...it's just what we already know. In our heads it was much better and Kishimoto made a mistake of showing us it in reality. It was lame. I miss good, meaningful flashbacks like Nagatos or Kabutos and the plot just needs to MOVE ON.

Maybe he should have started the series of Naruto from here... we would still be on the Chuunin exams and there wouldn't be any surprises anymore...

Honestly, I agree an disagree. Tobirama has gained new depth and Madara as well, Hashi is pretty one-dimensional though.

Aw man, hate has blinded you friend...

It's just made the origin story of the whole show look really, really dull without adding anything new to it.

EXAMPLE: We know that the fourth Hokage died protecting the village from a Kyuubi attack. The flashback we were given added SO MUCH to the event! It turned a huge moment in the manga and added to it. Now we have Kushina, baby Naruto, how the character's we already know were (Itachi, Iruka, Kakashi, Kurenai etc) Minato going to his deathmatch, Minato & Kushina's sacrifice and saying goodbye to their baby not to MENTION the Masked Man.

This is proof that Kishimoto knows how to take an event we've heard before and improve it. The guy knows how, he's just not delivering.

We knew that Madara got mad left the village, we knew that Madara, and Hashirama fought at VOTE. We did not know the details, and now we do. I love this flashback, and if it lasts another 2 months I wouldn't mind in the slightest.

It can't always be action

the Flashbacks serve to see what truly happened, for us viewers to understand the characters better. Having an idea isn't the same as seeing the whole thing.

Before we always thought that Hashirama and Madara were never really friends to begin with and that Hashirama duped Madara for the hokage title, but now we see that isn't the case.

We thought that Madara stole Izuna's eyes, but now we know that Izuna died from a battle wound and offered his eyes.

besides, the flashbacks show the extended universe......we got to see Madara's and Hashirama's dad and also all of Hashirama's past brothers

I personally liked it because it finally made the character of Kabuto make sense and finished his story. It had purpose and it showed the whole moral why him & Itachi were opposites. It was just badly timed.

I agree, he should have either kept it how it was, or taken more time to expand on it, I was so upset when they skipped over hashriama using mukuton for the first time, and izuna and madara's relationship and more details on izuna's death. Kishi could have done so much with this, but he made it minimal.

I'm obviously not just saying action. I just want a more interesting, less robotic version of the story we've been stuck in for the last 5 chapters. Villain backstories are some of the best things in this manga so it just sucks to see Madara's being so one-dimensionally weak.

Also those are nice facts to know I guess? but how much does it add to the current show right now. Really.

Seriously? It's just...apart from a few minor details, I knew literally all of these events. It's lacking.

I said in the post. The original character had so much going on inside his head, he was being betrayed by his own clan who he respected, he should still be grieving over his brother, he still had unfinished rivalry with Hashirama, he fought for Hokage role and his own people accused him of starting to restart trouble (where was this in the manga? this was pretty interesting.) We're seeing only minor facial expressions of what his emotions should be at this point.

In my head, Madara was the wise, legendary ninja that the legend made him out to be. And he really should be as well, it's just dampening his character into just another arrogant Uchiha douche. The random, seemingly out of character crazy smile at the end, the sudden 'oh and im turning evil now too because thats the reasonable response' in my opinion the Madara we have seen does not have enough motivation to turn into a raging psychopath. He has been betrayed and made second best but the logical thing to do is just respectively leave the village and say 'this place isn't for me, the Uchiha clan are pathetic backstabbers and have no honour' and just leave. Now he's going all cliche crazy psychopath sharingan look and it's just embarrassing.

That's why Kishimoto should just leave the legends as legends. He's just domesticated them and he clearly does not have the manga space/patience to expand the character well. It's a thing called ambiguity, the less said about them and the less we know the more mystical and impressive they are.

how's his one-dimensional?

We got to see the strife between his and Hashirama's clan and how both of them were raised in a time of war. The only reason it's maybe less interesting is because we already knew most of the facts and it didn't come as a surprise....but their story is what laid the foundation of the village and gave rise to the major plot of naruto.

^ I wrote why up there in a post just now :)

And yeah I guess but is it really worth 6+ chapters? And such a bad retelling of events we already know too. I really liked it up until Tobirama just killed Izuna just like that. This feels more like something that should be in a databook or a set of short stories about the Naruto world- not in the middle of the biggest battle in the manga so far.

yeah I will agree that it felt a bit rushed, I wished to have seen Izuna battle and Madara's/Hashi's father

but Kishi did that with the edo summons as well to save time, not exclusively within flashbacks

He's retelling the story as quickly as possible so that he can reveal the true fight between Madara and Hashirama
