What I meant was, if they are married already..NOTHING makes them a believable couple. Too much damage is done. But if Sarada is Karin's, her drama could bring them together and give SS much needed development, ending with a REAL SS wedding, like Hinata and Naruto. Without a plot device this ship is garbage. That is what I think Kishi is doing, that's why I still think she is Karin's. If not then he already wasted 1 of 10 chapters on UNNECESSARY BS and that is awful writing, way worse than chapter 700, if that's possible.

Agreed, this is the only way I can see Sasuke and Sakura getting closer. They need the drama to develop their relationship, Sarada will force them to clear their baggage since she needs them to be there for her.

Exactly, anything barring this makes no sense. There is no SS, that was proven in this chapter. SS fans are cheering, when they should be saying, "If she is Sakura's, then why the hell did she stay with a man that didn't think enough of her to find time in *12 YEARS* to visit her." Sarada is too young to do anything about that, but Sakura is a GROWN woman, one that seemingly chose to stay married to a man that did that. It makes her character look like the most PATHETIC woman in manga history.

I see what you are trying to say, you want this controversy to bring them closer and end with a legitimate wedding, I will address this in a second.

However, there is a very simple and fundamental flaw in your logic. Karin being the mother cannot possibly be a good thing for Sasuke and Sakura's relationship, simply because it would mean Sasuke was not faithful and committed to Sakura and his gesture in 699 was deceiving. If Sakura is the mother, it would consolidate his commitment to Sakura and his gesture in 699, proving that she is special to him. It is that simple, really 1 + 1 = 2.

Now lets go back to your reasoning, now first of all we have very little information on what exactly happened since Sasuke left the village, we do not know what happened in the past decade and why Sasuke is away, the possibilities are Endles. But let's assume your scenario, which is that Sasuke is not married to Sakura and they are not interacting at all and we need drama to bring them together for a real wedding.

Still, the baby can either be Sakura's or Karin's (both out of wedlock) and we can still end up with that same happy ending, and it being Sakura's is much better. Sasuke coming back, knocking up Sakura, and leaving for 10 years then coming back to start a serious relationship is better than Sasuke coming back with Karin's baby, giving it to Sakura, leaving for 10 years then coming back to start a serious relationship. Because like I said before, it would at least show faith.

Without a plot device this ship is garbage. That is what I think Kishi is doing, that's why I still think she is Karin's. If not then he already wasted 1 of 10 chapters on UNNECESSARY BS and that is awful writing, way worse than chapter 700, if that's possible.

I agree that a plot device is a good idea and this is what Kishi is doing, but we can also have one without Karin being the mother as I mentioned in my last point, and it would still not be a wasted chapter. Let me reiterate.

The whole portrait controversy would be a plot device to provide closure to the biological mother "mystery" and make SS more legitimate.

And we have another plot device, it's called Uchiha Sarada. If Sakura is indeed the mother and SS is for real, then it's quite clear that Kishi is using Sarada as a plot-device to deliver our thoughts as readers, since we think SS is "not believable" like you said, Kishi is addressing those issues through Sarada, by having her question her mother's marriage and call out their relationship. By doing that he is pointing out the problem, and giving himself the opportunity to fix it, now that Sarada asked, she will receive answers, and so will we.

I never thought of it that way. I suppose you are right in that. I suppose I'll have to hope that Kishi doesn't butcher it. But I guess that is always a risk in manga. Thanks for the explanation. Much appreciated.

Thanks, and don't get me wrong, I absolutely despise Sasuke's 10 year absence and think it's the last thing this couple needed, I still have no idea why he did it if he wants to show this relationship in a positive light.

But I am just rationalizing and putting myself in his shoes, while assuming that he indeed plans on making SS look better in the end. There is still a big chance that it is what it is, what you see is what you get, and Kishi is completely shitting on Sakura, Sasuke, and SS. Making his redeemed anti-hero look very bad again, and his heroine seem miserable. Why would he do that? I have no idea.

I always assumed Sasuke was his fave because of all the thought that went into him and his background, but maybe fans are right and he hates Sasuke plain and simple. He seems to not think of Sakura much at all, if any. He treats her like an after thought. Especially after the war.
