Seriously though, it likely never happened due to the Akatsuki's attack on the Sand Village. Perhaps the Sand or the Leaf were going to be the ones to host the exams, but were too busy dealing with the threat of the Akatsuki.

The Chunnin exams were done during the Kazekage's rescue, when Naruto returned to Konoha they told him that he missed the Chunnin exam
