Something has been really bothering me about how all this all played out. The entire situation with Ichigo leaning the final getsuga tensho....
AND I think I figured out what my issue is...
Recall back to when Ichigo was learned to control his inner hollow with the Vaizard... When Ichigo fought his hollow form... Remember that last sentence the Hollow said to Ichigo...
"If you really want to learn to control my full power, don't die before you see me again".
BUT WHAT HAPPENED... Ichigo DID DIE!!!
So where does that leave us readers? We witness the full power of Ichigo in his hollow form... only to see a frail version of it when fighting Aizen. HOWEVER, Ichigo's father could perform the same technique, BUT he did not have the power of a Hollow!!!!
He put Ichigo in a situation to communicate NOT with the Hollow, but only PART of the Hollow IE Zangetsu. We learned when Ichigo gained control of the Hollow... that the Hollow was Zangetsu...
Seeing Zangetsu as a younger version, we have to assume that this was ONLY a small fraction of Ichigo's soul... the portion that brought his Shinigami powers to its maximum.
When Ichigo fought Aizen... it was not with his entire soul, but only the part of him that was able to have compassion for Aizen, and put him out of his misery.
Isshin also had an alterrior motive. Why teach your son this technique, that would take away his powers? When Ichigo had enough power combined with the hollow to take out Aizen...? Isshin's motive was to return Ichigo to the human world forever, to where he belonged.
The reason why we are left feeling unfullfilled, is because we only witnessed the extent of his shinigami powers. Ichigo is MORE than just a shinigami. He is the being that transcends all 3 planes of existance. Isshin being the loving father did not want to lose his son to that fate.
Taking another look at it... Isshin is a soul reaper, not a human. When he used the final getsugo tensho... he was forced into a fake body. According to Urahara, if you spend too much time in the body, the soul reaper becomes human. Isshin had no choice, either become human, or be erased from existence.
NOW look at Ichigo... he IS a human. By using the final getsuga tensho, he is literally destroying his soul (something and something - can't remember - but its the two things that Byakuya thought he destroyed. Ultimately, Ichigo is back to his normal self... BUT his soul will NOT disappear... he needs to be killed.
Why was Ichigo unconsience for a week? Because like during the hollow training of the Super Nordic Trek, he has enough spirit force to last a week. It took that long for his spirit power to drain to the point he could return to being a human.
Do I Have A Conclusion, or thesis here??? Not at All.... I leave it up the the forum... XD.
