In my theory, Obito, Kagami and Izuna are one and the same person. Tobi is in-fact all those three people.
Why? Well, because when Obito "supposed" death, he awakened his makyo sharingan and then accidentally traveled back in time. To Madara's time, when Madara was still a boy.
Then, somehow after Izuna's supposed death, he time traveled into the future and became the person known as Kagami.
Then Kagami supposedly left the village or died, which Obito time traveled into the future - around the fourth hokage's time.
The Tobi we see now, is in-fact Obito who time traveled and is all these three people.
EDITED**: Obito is not Izuna, but did time travel back to when Madara and Izuna were alive. Thats why he knows the story behind them. And then time traveled into the future when the second hokage was alive. That's why he knows the third hokage, danzo and the elder advisors so intimately.
That's why he knows so much. And looks older when facing the fourth hokage. And probably had really long hair when he met Kizame, because he didn't cut it in a long time.
