I was just thinking about something you may or may not have noticed already. What exactly is the origin or rather, the reason for the Uzumaki Clan's trademark red hair? And something that encouraged my curiosity about it is the fact that you can LOSE the color, and REGAIN it. Nagato as an example.
Actually, there are three key points here:
1. Nagato's red hair went white when he used Rinne Tensei with Konoha. It happened because he used the little chakra he had left.
2. Nagato's white hair went back to red and his body from skinny to muscular as soon as he sucked the Hachibi's chakra. I can understand the reason why his hair color changed again, but then what does the body have to do here? That's when point 3 comes in.
3. When Naruto was giving his and Kyuubi's chakra to the Alliance army, Kurama mentioned that the reason why Naruto is skilled enough to make a connection or link between his own chakra, Kurama's and other people's (even meeting each person's especific type of chakra), was that A) He had been a Jiinchuuriki for many years and B) He has Kushina's BLOOD.

There it is! Blood! The Uzumaki's blood is especial! Not JUST the Chakra, but their blood! This means that their Chakra pools are so huge that it's closely connected to their blood cells! Their chakra is so powerful and abundant that it can't be running on Chakra conduits alone, it also has to go through the person's circulation system!
What color is the blood again? Red? No way! YES WAY! The physical reaction of having blood mixed with Chakra makes their hair Red, and as soon as they overuse that chakra, their hair turns white AND THEIR BODIES CAN LOSE CALORIES and stuff like what happened to Nagato. When he sucked the Hachibi's chakra, that Chakra not only re-filled his own chakra levels at the time, but also turned into blood, which we know carries nutrients and components that make one's body.
Remember how those black rods sort of pierced through Nagato's skin and started sucking his chakra? I bet they sucked blood too! And when Karin is biten, it's not pure chakra that comes from the bite, but her blood! Her blood carries enough amounts of chakra to heal and recover your own!
I think THIS is the reason why they are the only Clan able to have people with bodies suited for being the Kyuubi's vessel. The Kyuubi's power is the greatest among all the Bijuu, of course, harboring that power inside can't be done by natural bodies!
This is when the second statement of this theory comes in. The reason why the Uzumaki's blood is especial is because they are direct descendants of the Sage of the Six Paths. Once he became the Jiinchuuriki of the Juubi, Obito said that he could no longer be considered just HUMAN, which leads me to think that his blood was also different!
The Uzumaki inherited this blood kind, we could even call it their especial Kekkei Genkai of sorts, and hence became the only suitable vessels for the CLOSEST beast to the Juubi: Kurama, the Kyuubi. That mans the Sage not only passed down his sealing techniques, but also his physical constitution in the inside.
This also supports the fact that Naruto IS an Uzumaki. The reason behind his not having red hair, is because Minato's genes were surprisingly stronger than Kushina's, and I also think that Kurama being inside Kushina when she got pregnant caused a lot of interference when genes were being distributed. However, this does not mean that Naruto is not an Uzumaki. The reason he could even carry Kurama inside, and then even tame it, is because he IS an Uzumaki (No one else would be able to) and also because he carries Uzumaki Blood, he can act as a bridge between a Bijuu's chakra and another person... Something that I think, was that main objective behind the relationship between Kurama and the Uzumaki in the frist place.
There are also three interesting points that His Majesty, Lord of Uzumaki Theories, and Master of NarutoBase's Uzumaki Clan knowledge: Derp Obito made me see:
1. Kushina said that the Uzumaki were quite savage, and red hair is associated with fiery temperament.
What I think: I agree, as I have seldom seen a red head that wasn't close to a psycho in terms of hyperactivity or quick temper. And I'm not only speaking of Naruto (where Karin, Kushina and Tayuya are red heads and share the same temperamental behavior, and where Gaara and Nagato are Red Heads too, and share that unconscious, killing intent), but other stories. For example, Ginny Weasley and Ron Weasley are both quite hard to handle in terms of temper, aren't they?
2. Red hair is associated with psychic powers.
What I think: Again, another fine example of the connection between red hair and especial power (the Weasley Family, the Uzumaki Clan). If we remember Minato's technique to teleport physical objects somewhere else, I can hardly think of that as anything but magic, even for Japanese culture.
3. Red haired people are scientifically proven to have higher tolerance to pain because of the pigmentation hormone and the higher concentration of endorphins that enables red-heads to endure tremendous pain with little to no anesthetic
What I think: Hence mentioning Kushina's feat of surviving a Bijuu extraction, and the fact that the Uzumaki are said to be able to live much longer than normal.
