As it normally goes with my theories I ask that you atleast try to read the entire thing before posting. This one may be somewhat lengthy but come on, when has 4minutes of reading every killed anyone? This is one of my better theories.

With the recent releases of the Manga we see a different side of Obito one that seemingly wants to converse with Kakashi. And during that conversation we see him state that he wasnt too upset over Rin's death or upset at Kakashi for breaking his promise as he knows it was out of his control. And his explanation of how Rin dying meant she wasnt the real Rin sounded weird to me. So then I began thinking.... Why? So get some chips, some pizza, a drink and maybe even a sammich and enjoy the read. Its a little long but I recommend you guys read it all to fully understand my points. There is nothing more annoying that repeating yourself in the comment section because someone didnt fully read your theory x__x

Why would Obito have stayed with Madara

Well Obito isnt stupid, he gets injured and then his life is saved by some mysterious old man?[ ][ ] And then a while after he recovers he see's Kakashi killing Rin rather close to where he is staying at and a Zetsu Clone just happened to be there to warn them about it? I call Shenanigans... [ ]

Now firstly I want to show a few things. Firstly Madara has what we in the legal world like to call privileged information [ ]. How exactly did he know the happenings of Obito's accident. Then not soo long afterwards this happens [ ]. What a coincedence that the 2 people he cared about the most happened to be involved in such a crazy and unlikely situation in which kakashi was forced to kill Rin... Its a little too perfect. Not to mention that while all prior to this Madara ample time to set up a situation like this. (Note the different in hair lenght between [ ] and [ ] the time it takes for hair to grow that long would be more than enough for Madara to set up something like that.)

Now here is something else I want you to notice. Look at this [ ][ ] this is why he supposebly came back to Madara right? [ ] But I just cant get past that scowl on his face.

With this I begin to wonder just whether or not Obito realized that Madara was possibly the person behind his plan. If Madara was the type of person to kill so many people just to get a kid to go with his plan then he would undoubtable kill the kid for not following him. Besides the first thing Madara said to him was that he had a debt to pay [ ]. So with that Obito decided to stick around and see what this plan was all about, and if he could escape to the leaf or keep the plan from going through on his own.

1st Problem with stopping Madara's Plan

After instructing Obito and B/W Zetsu on what to do Madara commits suicide. But things are far from over, as Obito already knows Zetsu can enter the ground and escape which would make him hard to defeat, not to mention that half of his body is currently comprised of a Zetsu Clone which would mean fighting against the plan at that point would be suicide. Leaving Black Zetsu to finish off Madara's plan without him, and thus he was left to follow the plan for a little longer.

There was only one issue with, the plan wasnt a very long one. It was basically collect the tailed beasts and befriend Nagato. And thus there was only one way left to slow Madara's plan.

Obito's 1st method of slowing Madara's Plans

You must be registered for see images

Did anyone else think it was strange that he attacked the village with the 9 tails? I mean if he really did harbor no grudge against them then why exactly would he give away one of the tailed beasts he has been trying to collect? Unless... he literally was trying to give it away.

If not then why didnt he just hold on to the kyubi? Why set it lose upon the village and why not come back and scoop up Naruto and steal the 9 tails from him, why wait for him to get older when he posses a far greater threat? Because he wants him too. Perhaps he convinced Zetsu that with the 9 tails being in a child they should be in no rush to get it immanently.

Obito's 2nd Method of slowing Madara's Plan

You must be registered for see images

Has anyone ever wondered what the purpose of telling the kages what his plans was? Why would he reveal his plans to the Kages who could possibly gather a force to rival his? Why even take the chance when if left to there own devices they would never be prepared to do a thing to stop his plans? Why take that chance. Unless...

He wants them to attempt to stop his plans, he could sell this to Zetsu by claiming just to be cocky, while in actuallity he is doing whatever he can to give his opponents the advantage.

Obito's 3rd Method of slowing Madara's Plan

*This one is a bit of speculation*

Why did Obito destroy his own clan? Because 6 years prior to this he attacked the village with the Kyubi and rather than take it away he leaves it with them. Zetsu saw something strange about this and began to inquire whether or not he could be trusted.

Since anyone with Uchiha and Senju DNA could summon Gedo Obito he had to destroy his clan in order to ensure that Zetsu did not betray him in anyway. As long as he was an integral part of Madara's plan he could still work to destroy it from the inside out. Itachi killed his clan to save the village, Obito killed his clan to save the world.

Obito's 4th Method of slowing Madara's Plan

You must be registered for see images

Such a crucial peace of Madara's puzzle, left to die in vain and yet Sasuke was watched like an eagle during his fight with Danzo... Is it possible that Obito had better things to be doing? Or perhaps it was all a plan to stop Madara's Plan.

2nd Problem with Stopping Madara's Plan

Obito had already done so much to keep the plan from happening, he had allowed pain to die, kept any future Uchiha from becoming Zetsu's puppet, kept all of the tailed beasts from being collected and even warned the Shinobi Alliance of Madara's plans.

Just as everything was looking up and perhaps he had completely stopped Madara's plan from coming to fruishion a tiny little worm named Kabuto revealed that he had Madara's Edo. Not to mention that he had been spying on him enough to know his real identity, and if he knows that much then perhaps he knows what he has been planning this entire time as well... he had no choice. He must now work with Kabuto. Less he revive Madara and explain to him exactly what Obito had been up to.

But this is more importantly the most crucial part of Obito's crisis, from the start if Zetsu had ever had doubts of Obiti following the plan he could have always had Nagato revive Madara early. But with Nagato dead Obito was finally getting some headway, Madara was finally completely out of the picture, and with Kabuto's stunt he is now back in the picture. But to be completely honest If Madara knows so much about Edo to be able to undo the seal, and black zetsu is Madara's will incarnate, I dont find it too hard to believe that Zetsu could know Edo aswell. And perhaps the threat of Madara being summoned was always there. It just became more prevalent with Kabutos arrival.

Signs of Obito's Betreyal

Attempt to give Naruto a chance to stop the Jutsu

He crassly asks Madara to begin the jutsu. He replies that it is too risky, but notice the look on Obito's face when he asks Madara to do this.

I never planed on being your friend from the start

From the very start he didnt intend to be Madara's friend, but the thing I like most about Obito is the faces he makes. They arent emotionless and uncaring like Madara or other villians. There seems to be some kind of emotion behind his expressions, this could possibly be why is wears his mask. I mean if Kakashi is the only person who would even recognize him then it doesnt make sense to always wear a mask.

Allows Kakashi to survive

You must be registered for see images

After appearing through the wall he stabs kakashi in the leg instead of going for the kill, this even prompts Kakashi to say "Why?!?" to which he replies, just shut up... Note that this was done out of view of Madara as the wall was in the way.

Discussion with Kakashi Updated

Throughout there fight I have counted that Obito has Kamui'd or attempted to kamui Kakashi a total of 4 times. But why? Why is he so obssessed with Kamuiing kakashi? Could it be that Kakashi is the only person he can truly trust? And could it be that the Kamui realm is the only place they can have some privacy?

But the most important thing is that after him kamuiing Kakashi the first time kakashi uses Kamui to escape and come back to reality. So if we know that kakashi can escape then why bother continueing to kamui him? What good is a prison without doors?

Helping Sasuke so much

he has helped Sasuke so much from guiding him down the path of vengence to helping him get the EMS and fueling the flames of his emotions driving him to seek out even more strength. Could this be because he is grooming another opponent to challenge Madara?

The Facial Expressions of Obito

Once again it is the faces I see Obito make at certain times that makes me question how bad he truly is. I see regret, indecision, sadness, pain, remorse. All things a villain should not have. I didnt even see these emotions in Madara when he fight his best friend Hashirama. And it is these expressions that remind me of someone, someone who was also a double agent, someone who had a heavy heart... Itachi.

These are just 2 examples of this:

Conclusion

I really could expound on this idea further but this thread has taken hours and I am very sleepy so I will leave it at this and reply to comment in the mourning.

With this we see that there is good reason to believe that Obito could possibly be a double agent who is infact fighting to stop Madara's plan. This idea would explain all his supposedly unexplained actions so far.

So Sleepy @__@

I hope you guys enjoyed the thread, I put alot of effort into it!!!

Interesting. Very interesting. I especially found the part on Sasuke intriguing.

At first i thought that maybe Obito was nurturing sasuke to act as a replacement for Nagato, but that wouldn't make sense would it? Nagato didn't know the real madara, and having a different pawn to use Rinne Tensei wouldn't help Obito at all, as he doesn't want to Rinne Tensei Madara...

But then why does obito state that he wanted Nagato's rinne tensei for himself? Was it because Zetsu was present? Or was it for some other unknown reason?

In fact, if Obito never planned on reviving madara, then why need sasuke at all? Obito could very well perform the entire moons eye plan himself (as i believe he still may want to follow the moons eye plan, but for its actual purpose, not madara's twisted version of peace).

You are right about Obito's facial expressions part mate, spot on.Didn't noticed it that much before you mentioned it but after checking it don't actually shows a real villains facial expressions(Like madara's) instead shows mixture of sad, loneliness, remorse kinda feelings.Still your theory can be true but we'll have to wait and see what kishi decides to do.I like the idea of Obito being a double agent than being talk no jutsu'ed ;)

You may also want to mention how Obito didn't decide to get Nagato's rinnegan until AFTER kabuto showed up with his edos in tow.

I daresay it is a good theory. I personally wouldn't like if it turns out to be like this.

I've always thought it was odd that Obito helped Konoha's side on the Uchiha massacre. If he wanted to wipe the village off the map, why didn't he sit back, grab a bag of popcorn and enjoy the show while your two biggest enemies destroy Konoha from the inside? A lot of his current problems would've been solved.

Obito and Itachi's partnership also intrigues me a lot. Itachi called him his mentor, while Obito praised Itachi's sacrifice... with a sense of understanding.

Im glad you liked it :p, this was one of my longer threads so I was scared people wouldnt take the time to read it fully but as you said it is definetely worth it.

Well put, I was actually planning on elaborating a bit more there but I wanted to shorten the thread where I could.. I feel bad as I may have cheated some members out of reading ALL of my ideas. I will probably make a follow up thread sometime next week and ill be sure not to hold anything back.

I can agree with you that Madara tricked Obito and orchestrated all the events that led Obito into his cave and killed Rin. However, I think you misunderstood the actions of Obito. You got tricked by a selective reading because you want to whiten Obito.

1. Obito did not give Kyuubi away. Rather, he stole it, and was unable to keep it. He knew he couldn't beat Yondaime in the first place.

2. Obito couldn't keep Kyuubi anyway because he needed to control Gedo Mazou and the nine dragon sealing tech for that. Besides, the manga invoked the order in which the beasts should be sealed.

3. Obito did not let Nagato die. Where did you get this intel? The attack on the 5 kages summit was the consequence of Nagato's death putting a hole in his plan.

4. Obito clearly gave his plan because he wanted to make the Kages bring Naruto and KB in the war so that he can get easy access to their bijus. He was overconfident and underestimated the 5 countries.

I could go on and on, but I don't feel like doing it. Clearly, you chose to bias all the facts to whiten Obito, but you are wrong. Can you tell us why Obito has done most of the deadly attacks on the alliance before Madara was summoned and after Juubi was born. Madara has been standing and doing nothing while Obito has been killing shinobi on top of shinobis. Have you even see Madara making substantial move on anyone? Madara created Obito, but Obito is in control now. If Naruto did not save Kakashi from him, he would have killed him. You should not use the effect of Naruto on him to say he is a good guy. He may have watered a bit, but he is a very dark guy now.

The fact that Obito seemed distressed that Kabuto had a way to resurrect Madara means that Obito would have rather not had Madara back in the picture...

I like your theory but I don't think he's a double agent.

When Kakashi said Why, he meant why did Obito go to the dark side.

He may have watered a bit, but he is a very dark guy now.

Sorry but I think it is you that is twisting things to make it seem more favorable for your arguement for the following reasons:

1) Obito had possesion of the 9 tails after taking it out of Kushina, it was under his genjutsu, at that point he could have left with it. But not only that when the 9 tails was inside of Naruto he could have snuck into the village the same way he did the first time and kidnap Naruto.

2) Nagato has the ability to summon Gedo and even at that point he could have just held onto the 9 tails until it was time to seal it. This again wouldnt be to hard as he can place it under a genjutsu and if he had just stolen Naruto that would have made things alot easier.

3) No, Nagato has and always was an integral part of Obito's plans. So my question is what was he doing when Nagato died? Why would he let the most important peice of Madara's plan die like that without doing anything to intervene? This has absolutely nothing to do with the 5 kages.

4) Yes, he was cocky and told the entire ninja world to dare and try and stop me? Sounds alot like plot no jutsu as a regular human being in regular situations would not act like this.

And lastly the reason Obito has acted the way he has prior to Madara's Summoning is because he needs Madara to think he is still on his side, if Madara trusts him then it will be easier for him to stop him. If he turned right now Madara would still have the Juubi and Obito would just be another Ninja that needed to be defeated, but more importantly like Obito even stated Madara would then use the Juubi to destroy everyone including Obito and since an Obito that is no longer on his side would also not be willing to revive him.

Lastly I want to say that just because you THINK i watered down something or misrepresented someone doesnt mean I actually did so. It only means that you THINK i did. And for the above reasons I have shown why i think you are wrong for thinking so. Now if you want to discuss which action of obito would then seen more likely and go into analysis every move he makes and then decide whether it would make more sense for him to do something else then I bow out. I just reccomend that you look at my thread with an open mind and even if at that you still assert that there is no way in hell it could possibly be true then you are free to do so.
