Since we saw that Naruto's Sage mode rasengan shocked Obito like finding a cockroach in his sammich...I think that Madara's 'trump card' that he claims to have is a Sage mode. It's reasonable to conclude that he has been alive long enough to learn one, and master it - and with all of his skills, he is definitely smart enough to learn one. Especially when you consider that he wasn't more than stories and legends to some of the characters until just before the war started.
Kabuto became a self professed Dragon Sage without there being any mention of it before, and he was gone for a few years of the manga.
It also seems odd to me that Madara has never shown that he has an animal to call, like many of the characters do. Was he keeping it hidden? Or is it that the shinobi from his era didn't collaborate with animals?
Some may think of it as an asspull if Madara's trump card is a Sage mode and he summons his animal [dragon, tiger, idk] to kick the crap out of Obito. Maybe it is. Given how much time the manga has gone through so far [5-8 years?] and Madara was away for almost all of it, I think it's likely.
