This doesn't make any kind of sense.

Sharingan was never useless. Even 1T Sharingan is useful.

MS was always an evolution of the sharingan. On Byakugan's case, it never had an evolution but it's getting retconned now. They thought "Damn, we can't give that shit to the protagonist, we need to make a new and useful version of it"; that's how Boruto's doujutsu was created.

Neji fought Kyubi Chakra infused Naruto and lost. Sasuke fought Kyube Chakra Cloaked (1 tail) Naruto and won as soon as he got 3T. But I can agree that Byakugan might be stronger than 2T Sharingan.
