This has been discussed in the past, but I thought I'd provide a few different view points on this. This first arose when Obito stated that he would die by simply using this technique. Why? Nagato seemingly able to do it without dying. It was implied he would die because all of the chakra he had already exerted, ie, fighting an entire village, followed by annihilating it through Shinra Tensei (already shortening his lifespan). I will present some theories and let you decide on the most likely of them.
Theory #1 Obito Needs Both Eyes
Obito has already shown difficulty mastering the Rinnegan so far. He was only able to use the Outer Path ability: Shared Vision and could not or would not utilize the other Rinnegan techs. This is mostly due to the amount of chakra that would be needed, clearly showing Obito doesn't really have the chakra reserves for the eyes themselves. It is possibly due to him having one eye. Perhaps the ease of using a Rinnegan tech lies with having both eyes. With one eye, he needs to exert more chakra, than that is needed in comparison to having both, and would therefore kill him.
Theory #2 Obito Has Exerted So Much Chakra, It would Kill Him
As in the case of Nagato, he has already used up so much chakra. He has controlled 7 Jinchuuriki (while unleashing them in their Tailed Beast state AND using TBB), used that massive Uchiha Fire Wall Encampment tech, and summoning/controlling the Juubi.
Theory #3 Obito Isn't Fully Human
A final theory is due to Obito not having a full human body and therefore doesn't have the stamina required to survived the tech. If you recall, Obito has a 1/2 Uchiha, 1/2 Android (Artificial Senju) body. While this does mean he can use Mokuton and doesn't require sustenance to survive, it doesn't mean his body can withstand normal wear and tear like the human body. When Minato slammed him with a Rasengan, his body was falling apart. This isn't normal. Others who have been hit just simply take concussive damage, while Obito falls apart. So, perhaps the lack of a complete human body poses a problem when it comes to a hefty technique like that.
