I've heard them say it can seal rocks.
Where is this proven?

So Yata deflects TheYou must be registered for see links, despite it being able to break any and all defenses? The use of hyperbole was so obvious when describing Yata Mirror, the blunt sword, Amaterasu's mechanics etc.
[omg a worth while thread :T_T: ]
there are many contradictions in the manga i agree, but let me ask when was totsuka blade stated to be able to pierce/seal anything? i recall that it was said that it would seal anyone it pierces , but not that it could pierce/seal anything, those are 2 entirely different scenarios and sort of take away from your paradox argument for the yata mirror

It was actually popular belief around here that the Totsuka Blade could pierce any object, even rocks. Regardless, I have the Blunt Sword argument, which is actually a much better example.
you seem intelligent, you put together a nice thread, you dont have to address every passing half assed thought of the fanboys, because looking at this rationally , we have to assume the genjutsu world and the means of drawing one into it can only be applied to living beings, anything else would really be ridiculous xd
and looking at your blunt sword argument, i would just say that the 2 weapons are on different planes of existence, it can be inferred that the blunt swords ability to break through all defense applies to physical objects/weapons, yata mirror is an etheral weapon, composed of spirit energy, its on a different level, we have to use some level of critical thinking when reading the manga not everything is going to be laid out verbatim, and even looking at it in a fighting situation stand point, the blunt sword actually requires 2 strikes to break onces defence, the initial axe slash and then the follow up hammer strike, im pretty sure the initial slash would be repelled before the the hammer strike could be completed..so its up to your level of reasoning to infer what is absolute, which is nothing, i do agree with you there
You can't use one example to back up your claim for an other topic. The Blunt sword is neither Yatas mirror nor Totsukas sword and isn't a spiritual weapon who was called ultimately attack and defense even in the databook. If you read the statements in the Databook more accurate, you would see the difference.
Preta-Path is able to absorb any Ninjutsu, but yet its technique is based on a Fuin Jutsu which bans away Chakra in any form - There are many techniques which are classified as a Ninjutsu and not each is based on Chakra or further consists out of it. And on this basis you can draw your conclusions on whether in which case Preta-Path is working and how fast it does.
Yatas Mirror on the other hand is said to be able to deflect any attack, without going into detail. This is a divine weapon which repels anything. Same goes for the divine and spiritual weaon Totsuka no Tsurugi, which is the ultimately sealing weapon and can crush anything. Anything with the except Yata no Kagami, since its characteristic to repel all attacks. Anything else can most likely be crushed since of the swords characteristic.
This is a whole different stroy from the mere hype Kishimoto is giving to usual things, like the Bunt sword which can destroy any defense, Gaaras Sand which is called perfect defense through being broken once. Yatas mirror was not only called perfect defense, it was explicit said by Kishimoto, that this shield has the characteristic to repel all attacks, so we should stay by this statement.
And if we would take the statements in the databook literally, any attack would just lose its effect before this god. I agree that Yatas mirror can't help you against any attack since it doesn't grant you a 360 degree protection and wouldn't be helpful against techniques such as a huge Jinton cube, Chibaku Tensei and others, but all attacks which hit Yatas mirror, will be reflected.
Obviously it's not the perfect defense if you can get behind it. Case closed. Gaara and Neji have absolute defenses, because the defend their blind spots. Susanoo does the same. But the Yata mirror on its own does nothing to defend from behind. Not an absolute defense, so not a perfect defense. And that means that Justus like CT, Jinton, Shinra tensei, acid mist, etc., justus that affect you from all sides, can beat it!
This is ridiculous, your first point is baseless and your second point is russel's teapot logic and also baseless.Alot of things tend to be exaggerated from the Db but two things need to be considered.
1. Yata Mirror is a spirtiual weapon. It's powers should be held in higher regards to other weapons.
2. Until we actually see it get broken then we can say it was a contradiction.
Nice thread either way, however, sometimes you just can't apply logic to Naruto. Lemme give you an example; Nagato vs Hashirama. Now based on an awesome thing called "hype" Hashirama shits on him, but we know that Nagato can absorb his Mokuton, obviously Kishi knows for a fact, and we should too, that Hashirama > Nagato. If we start using logic it starts to bend towards Nagato. Anyways, I'm sure you get my point by now. Don't try and twist Kishi's words either, not helping.
Yes, but this thread is arguing that there a few techniques in the manga which could take the Yata Mirror head on.

"it has never been shown being broken and you cant prove that it's breakable therefore its unbreakable" seriously what is this
But we don't know what CAN defeat it. I am currently the mind that until it hasn't been destroyed, it can't be. Sorry :/ and obviously there's no way to prove one way or another. All you can say is that it isn't a perfect defense.
Nothing else I've said. Yatas mirror isn't invincible. I said that Yatas mirror repels any attack which hits it, since Kishimoto gave it this characteristic not only in the Manga but also in the Databook. This counts, of course, not for all techniques since not all techniques are working by directly hit its targets. You can sugar coat it as much as you like, but it was just hyperbole. I don't know why you think Yata Mirror is so special, and it seems to me that you believe the hype surrounding the Yata Mirror is superior to the hype given to other objects, which is completely false.
"You can't use one example to back up your claim for an other topic."
Why? Because it lessens Itachi's image? I'm sure if Jiraiya or Minato were the ones wielding this item you would be singing a different tune. I don't want you to think i'm trying to attack Itachi here, because I still think the Yata Mirror is probably the best defensive tool in the manga. However, it has its limits, as do all objects/things in this manga. Another thing you need to remember is Manga > Databook.
There is no invincible object in this manga.
- Not really baseless. A spirit weapon is on a different level than weapons made on earth. It should be more powerful and it's mentioned as a divine weapon.
- You mad? It repels all attacks. Kishi went into great detail about how it does it. Who are you say otherwise.
