Chapter 2
Naruto awoke to the sun shining in through his window, but he had an odd sense of foreboding, like something bad was going to happen.
Naruto: *thinking* Nah, it's nothin'. Just make myself some breakfast and I'll be fine.
He went to grab some ramen from the cupboard when he saw a note on the table:
'Naruto, I'm sorry, but I'm leaving with Sasuke. I don't know when I'll be back, probably never. Don't come looking for us.
-Sakura'
The note looked like it had been written in a hurry, there were a lot of things crossed out and there were ink blotches that almost looked like tears.
Naruto:*thinking* What? Leaving? But Sasuke is still here in the village, I saw him yesterday... Where would he go?... Nah, it's just some stupid joke. Sasuke would never betray the village... Would he?
...
Sasuke: Are you sure you want to do this?
He looked back at Sakura as they jumped through the trees, following the Sound Four.
Inner Sakura: What are you doing?! You're seriously going to abandon the village for this one guy?! Are you CRAZY?!
She answered both of the questions:
Sakura: Yes.
Sasuke could tell by the determined look on her face that she meant it.
Sasuke:*thinking* Who knows... She might be useful after all.
...
Knock Knock
Naruto went to answer the door. He still had his pajamas on and was eating his morning ramen. He opened the door to see Kakashi standing there. Kakashi looked down from his book at Naruto and his breakfast.
Kakashi:*thinking* Is that all he eats? *talking* Anyway... Have you seen Sakura or Sasuke? Lady Tsunade has called for us... I talked to Sakura's mom and she said she hasn't seen her since last night... Come to think of it, I haven't seen Sasuke around anywhere since yesterday either...
Naruto: Dammit, she wasn't kidding!
Kakashi: Uuh...
Naruto slammed the door in his sensei's face and ran to put regular clothes on. He quickly ate the rest of his ramen and grabbed Sakura's note off the table. He opened the door to see Kakashi standing there, confused.
Kakashi: ...? *thinking* What was that about? I've never seen him get ready that fast, not even for a mission...
Naruto was wearing his usual bright orange and blue jacket and his orange pants. Naruto looked up at his sensei with a mix of disbelief, fear and anger. Kakashi noticed a slightly wrinkled paper in his hand.
Naruto: You should see this...
Kakashi:*thinking* This can't be good...
Naruto handed the note to Kakashi. He took it and read it carefully.
Kakashi: Sh*t, this isn't good! *thinking* I thought my talk with him had straightened things out. *talking* Naruto, come with me, we're going to see Lady Tsunade immediately!
Naruto: Right!
...
Sakon: This should be far enough.
Sakura:*thinking* Far enough for what?
Sasuke leaned closer to Sakura.
Sasuke:*whispering* What ever happens, don't interfere.
Sakura:Alright.
Jiroubou pulled out what looked like a large barrel.
Sakura: A coffin?
Sakon: If you want to get stronger, you're curse mark will have to advance to the second stage. To do that, you'll have to eat one one of these pills.
He pulled out a bag of small, dark pills.
Sakon: It'll be painful and normally, you'd die.
Sakura:*thinking* What?!
Sakon: But we'll make sure that won't happen. The worst that'll happen is that you'll pass out. So are you in?
He held out the hand with the pills up to Sasuke. He picked one up skeptically.
Sasuke: So this will make me stronger... And you're sure I won't die?
Sakon: Lord Orochimaru would kill us if you did.
Sasuke: Alright.
He took the pill and swallowed as Sakura watched anxiously. Almost immediately, Sasuke yelled out in pain and passed out. Sakura fought the urge to scream.
Sakura: *thinking* It's alright, they know what they're doing.
Even so, she was still very concerned about Sasuke.
Sakon: Hurry up and seal him!
Sakura watched as Juroubou picked up Sasuke's now unconcious body and placed him in the coffin.
Sakon: Now!
Sakura back away as the four members activated some sealing tags that stuck to the coffin.
Sakon: Come on, let's keep moving. You too, girl.
He motioned to Sakura. She looked determined, but there was a hint of fear in her eyes. Jiroubou picked up the coffin and tid it to his back with a large rope.
Sakura:*thinking* It's what Sasuke wants, I must do as they tell me.
So she followed the Sound Four as they continued through the forest.
