(I know this is long but I did a lot of research and put a lot of thought into this. Please read it and give me a comment. And please don't be rude.)
The Uchiha's signature jutsu is Katon: Gōkakyū no Jutsu (Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique). this technique was viewed as a coming of age for young Uchiha... the Fire Release technique was so important to the Uchiha that their clan's symbol is basically a fan; which are used to build up a fire....
Not much is known of the Senju clan altogether but we know plenty about Hashirama Senju... He was well known for his unique Wood Release Technique which gave his clan the nickname "Senju Clan of the Forest"...
Fire represents destruction. While the forest represents life. The Uchiha's and Senju's are complete opposites from the very beginning... Even their philosophical views are greatly contrast...
The Senju clan believed in the Will of Fire. Which states that love was the only way to true peace. Stating that every true Konoha shinobi must love, believe, cherish and fight for the village's sake, as many previous generations had done before them.
The Uchiha clan's Curse of Hatred, told by Madara Uchiha, was an ideal of hostility and opposition that was said to have been passed down throughout the generations by the Uchiha clan's forefather to the members of his lineage. The Uchiha's believed that only power can achieve peace...
The origins of both these clans are shared and shows the recurring theme... The Uchiha and the Senju clan are descendants of the Sage of the Six Paths...
The Sage's ultimate wish to establish peace throughout the world was a goal that could never be achieved within his lifetime alone. Knowing that his end was approaching, the Sage entrusted his strength, dream, and legacy to his two sons. The older son, who inherited the Sage's "eyes" (his powerful chakra and spiritual energy), believed that power was the true key to peace. The younger son, who inherited the Sage's "body" (his powerful will and physical energy), believed that love was the true key to peace.
On his deathbed, the Sage chose his younger son to be his successor. Overcome by bitterness and envy, the older son attacked the younger, beginning a war between them. Their feud would continue on through their descendants: the Senju clan and the Uchiha clan.
Now take everything that you have just learned and apply them to Sasuke Uchiha and Naruto Uzumaki... They have both embodied the very essence of their clans... They are perfect representations of their individual clan...
(the Uzumaki clan is distant relative of the Senju clan)
