The True Genus of Konoha

Part 1

Early morning as the sun raises over Konoha, the dew glistens on silky blades of grass;
deep within the forest of death the sounds of crackling branches fills the air. “Doton Doryuu Taiga”
(mud river jutsu) a river of mud engulfs a giant red oak tree, at that moment destruction beetles
erupts from Shino’s sleeves and into the mud. “Wax Style! Wax Fortress jutsu!” As the mud shifts
into a 12 meters wide, 10 meters high wax dome. Suton! Suishouha (water summing). Shino
reveals the next command Jutsu; and water begins to fill the wax dome. “I’ve mastered it,” says
Shino as he lands atop the wax structure. Shino bites his right thumb and draws blood followed by
these hand seals: snake, rabbit, rat, horse; summoning jutsu. As he slams his hand on the wax
dome, a rhinoceros beetle, the size of a dump truck, burst the dome, sending water and wax bits
spewing into the forest of death, destroying everything in its path. Landing on a floating chunk of
wax, Shino look at how his attack remodeled the forest of death. Giant centipedes and snakes
among other creature of the forest lay sprawled out through the forest of death.

As Shino returns to town; he cuts through the graveyard to retrieve the egg sacs of
beetles he left there a month earlier. Back at the Aburame house, Shibi, Shino’s father, asked Shino
how his training went. Shino replied, “fine,” and they continued to eat their breakfast. Hours later
Shino awakes from sleep and has a summons from the Hokage. Inside the Hokage’s mansion,
Tsunada issues Shino a C rank mission to deliver important scrolls to the Village Hidden in the
Grass. “This will be a solo mission. Are you up to it?” Replying to the Hokage’s question; Shino gave
a nod with a dull and dry, “Yes”. “You are to leave at once,” the Fifth Hokage commanded, as she
turned away. Another dull reply, “Right”. In a flash Shino disappears. “I don’t know about this,”
Shizune exclaimed. “He is the only and the best choice we have”, said Tsunada, as she gazed out
the window with her hand folded behind her back.

Home again, Shino prepared his gear. Knowing it was to be a day and a half trip, he took
care to gather the essentials; like a tent and food. Also knowing he was to embark on a solo
mission, Shino’s pack also included shuriken, kunai, medical ointment, and summoning scrolls;
among other ninja tools.

Once he had all he needed, he set off for the Western Gate of Konoha. Upon reaching the gate, an
astonishing site to behold. Three genin ninja carrying a bruised and battered Jonin, wrapped in
heavy medical bandages with blood seeping through. Shino standing calmly, hands in pockets,
watching the situation transpire. Thinking to himself, Neji. Cough… Cough… “Shino,” says Neji, as he
struggles to stand alone. “Over here,” yells one of the genin, at the two approaching medical ninja.
Cough… releasing blood from the mouth, hunched over, gasping for air, Neji says in a fading
voice, “Sasuke” before passing out. Neji. “We have to get him to the unit,” states one of the medical
ninja.

Sasuke? Thinking to himself once more, as he continues out of the gate. Shino quickly grabs a
kunai from his right leg pouch. Ting… Ting… deflecting two senbon, spinning into a defense position,
his eyes run across a young kunoichi. Cloaked in the same attire as Shino. A black hooded coat that
covers half of her face and sunglasses also in the same fashion as Shino’s. Her hair was mid
length, but only two ponytail size strands extended on either side of her face and outside of the
coat’s face guard. As if to emulate Shino’s demeanor; she said with a dry voice, “if we are going to
train, then where are you going?” Shino drops his guard, “I have a mission. I will return in three
days time. Until then work on your charka control.” Slumping down further inside her coat’s face
guard, in a disappointing manor. Looking at the kunoichi genin in Neji’s group, “Kumiko”, says
Kamiko to another bug user, which is her twin sister. As Kamiko turns and walks away a swarm of
destruction beetles from around the area flock around the young kunoichi. Sigh… Kamiko.. you
have come far, but you still have a way to go.

Outside of Konoha, Shino walks the road for two miles and leaps into the trees, hopping from tree
to tree, darkness falls. I better find a place to rest for the night. But I need to deal with this person
that has been following me. Stopping on a tree next to a waterfall and river. Shino orders his
pursuer, “Show yourself”. A dry voice answers, “As expected sensei.” “Kamiko you did well
counseling your charka, but you shouldn’t be here. Well I can’t send you back alone, and it’s only a
C rank mission. I guess you’ll have to come with me and we’ll return once the mission is complete,”
says Shino. “I can help you,” Kamiko replies. Shino says nothing and turns his attention to his
future camp site. Next to the waterfall, Shino grabs a small scroll from the ninja gear he packed. He
unrolls it and places a foot upon the unrolled scroll, forms the release seal, “Release”. A plumb of
smoke bursts forth from the scroll, when it cleared a ready tent stood. They both enter the tent to
sleep.

Shino and Kamiko awake at dawn and gather up the tent, “seal” says Shino as he seals
the tent into its scroll. Back into the tree tops heading towards his goal, Shino thinks back to
Tsunada given him the mission. Strange? “What is it Sensei?” “Nothing, there it is.” Arriving at the
gates of the Grass Village. Shino and Kamiko are approached by two grass ninja. “We have word
from the Lord Hokage,” said Shino; as he stepped forward. “Right,” the grass ninja understanding
leads them to the leader of their village. Along the way whispers rang out, “leaf ninja.” “What are
they doing here?” “The leaf is here?” Kamiko looking around as if to strategize an escape plan. “32
on the left, 12 on the right, and the 2 in front, 46 in all,” Kamiko whispers to Shino. “Good, but you
missed the 5 on the roof, the 3 behind, and the unknown.” The two grass ninja up front was
surprised that they spotted all the ninja that quickly, but confused about the unknown
remark. “Remember to never plan for a set number, always plan for more. It’s good to have an ace
in the hole, but it’s better to have two.” Walking up to a large green and white building like the
Hokage’s mansion but half it’s size. They passed between two wooden pillars embroidered with
snakes, as if snakes were the mascots of the village. The pillars had 3 butterflies, Humm.. thinks
Shino. Once inside, Shino revealed the scrolls; in which he was to deliver to the leader of the
Hidden Grass Village. Upon receiving the scrolls the leader of the grass village opens them to reveal
the content. Reading the scrolls the grass leader smiled, “We have successful renewed our treaty
with the Village Hidden in the leafs. “A celebration is in order. You must stay for the celebration,”
said the leader looking in Shino and Kamiko’s direction. “We won’t be staying. We must return to
the Konoha,” Shino said in a familiar dry voice.

Walking out of the green and white building, Shino lost in thought. Breaking the silence
Shino states, “We won’t be heading back to the village yet.” “But don’t we have to report to the
Hokage,” Kamiko replies. “No it will be fine, during the meeting I released some battles to fly back
to the leaf and report to the Hokage,” Shino answers.

Outside the gates of the grass village Shino heads southwest. “Shino what’s going on? My
beetles are going crazy!” Said Kamiko in an frighten state yet still in a dry voice. “So you finally felt
it? You need to become more in tune with your insects.” Shino says as he prepares to perform a
Jutsu. Rapid hand seals follow his words: rat, horse, ox. “Insect gathering Jutsu!” A web of chakra
extends forth from Shino’s hand as he places it on the ground. “Mushi Yose no Jutsu. Why is he
gathering insects?” Kamiko whispers to herself. “Sensei, why are you gathering bugs and when was
I supposed to feel my destruction beetles go berserk?” Shino replies, “When we woke and packed
the tent, my destruction beetles sensed five chakras. Two of those chakras followed us to the grass
village’s gates. In short you should have felt your bugs shortly after we left the camp site. I’m
gathering insects to see where they went.”

After receiving and following the information from the gathered insects; they come to a large river.
The river ran southeast, topped by a large waterfall. The river was also shrouded by bushes running
along the banks of both sides of the river. A stream of bushes formed a semi circle adjacent to the
southwest bank of the river. Shino directed Kamiko to hide in a nearby bushel in the tree tops, as
he did the same. Watching the lower grounds four ninja stood ready for battle. They wore a white
flack jacket with black pants and black shirts underneath. A red and white dog, rabbit, bear, and
bird masks could also be made out from the other side of the river. Anbu black ops. Why is the
Anbu here? thought Shino. “Where did it go,” the bird masked anbu masked. “I don’t know,” replied
the rabbit masked anbu. “Ninja Art Poison Fog Jutsu,” the bear masked anbu member called out,
while holding the dragon handseal. A large cloud of purple poisonous fog was expelled from the
ninja’s mouth. A gust of wind then blew over the area clearing away the fog. A katana then sliced
through the dog and bear masked anbu members. Being attacked again, quickly turning to defend
with his own katana the rabbit masked anbu crossed swords with his attacker, with the attack
deflected, the attacker quickly retreated into the shrubs. The attacker leaped out of the shrubbery,
attacking once more. Lunging at the bird masked anbu from behind cutting into his right shoulder.
But before it could return into the shrubs like before; three senbon, from Shino’s position, flew
through the air, striking the attacker in the leg. The anbu surprised looked up in the trees. “Wait!”
Shino tries to stop Kamiko from jumping into the battle, but too late, she leaped from hiding and
entered the fight. Seeing the leaf forehead protector, the anbu knew she was not a threat to them
and took their fighting position once more. The bird masked anbu, clenching his right shoulder,
shifts his head to the right looking down at the blood from the attackers wounded leg on the
ground. “What the….” At that moment the attacker lunged at Kamiko. She threw three senbon, the
attacker spun clockwise missing two of the needles and deflecting the last one with the katana.
Staying on course heading straight for Kamiko, suddenly Shino appeared in front of her, kunai in
hand, crossing blades with the attacker. “Sensei,” said Kamiko in relief. “It’s Shino,” the rabbit
masked anbu stated. Upon further inspection, they all discovered that the attacker was a large
black and white nin dog, griping in it’s mouth a special made light weight katana, made for ninja
hound use. The blade extended twenty-four inches on either side of the hound’s mouth. The blade
has a spiked mouth guard for defense. “So that’s why there was hair in the blood,” said the bird
masked anbu, still holding his shoulder in pain. “Yes, but this ninja hound is not capable of nature
manipulation jutsu; which means there is another ninja nearby,” Shino states, while still holding his
kunai against the ninja hound’s katana. “Chibi!” a voice calls out to the hound from the tree line
facing northeast, toward the southeast bound river. Almost instantly the hound retreated to the
location of the voice. “Do we pursue?” Kamiko asks eagerly. Shino stood silent, shifting his weight
to his back leg as if to brace for an attack. He says, “Its coming.” Wondering how he knew but
heeding his warning the three ninja readied themselves. “Eight o’clock,” Shino called out. Jumping
out of the way according to the eight o’clock prediction, they avoided the attack. Relieved to have
an advantage over the hound, the bird masked ninja said in great relief, “It’s attacks have slo..”
being cut off from finishing his statement, the ninja was impaled with three spurs the size of a short
sword. A stream of blood ran down his chin from both corners of his mouth. “It’s her,” he said as he
fell to his knees after looking down at the three paper spears, as if the spears passed through the
body without touching his blood. His wounds began bleeding turning the once white paper red in
color. “Konan?” Shino says. “I did not think we would run into her, three o’clock.” “Who is Konan?”
asked Kamiko, as she lunged forward, towards the three o’clock prediction, throwing five more of
her projectile weapons. This time striking the ninja hound three out of the five senbon thrown. Two
of the hits landed into its front right leg and the last of the three hits landed in its left ear. “She is
apart of the Akatsuki,” answered the last standing black op member, watching the hound retreat.
The sky became littered with white paper arrows heading for the group. “Rabbit, Ox, Rabbit,” Shino
calls out his handseals, “Insect wall Jutsu.” Shino erupts into thousands of destruction
beetles. “Mushi Bunshin no Jutsu,” said Kamiko, amazed that she could not tell the difference from
the real and the insect clone. The beetles surrounded Kamiko, the rabbit masked anbu, and the
fallen bird masked anbu; and begin to fly at a high speed forming a protective wall vortex;
deflecting the army of arrows. Leaping out from hiding, with her back to the three ninja protected
by the wall of insects, dodging Shino’s attack, landing on her feet, touching her right hand to the
ground, sliding backward kicking up dust, catching her balance. Shino, hands in pocket, calmly
walked out of the tree line from which she came. “How did you find her, and when did you switch to
the insect clone,” the rabbit masked anbu asked, not able to sense her chakra, and not seeing an
opportunity to substitute a clone. “The male destruction beetles are overly attracted to the female of
the species pheromones. I placed five female beetles inside the clone, once in close combat with
the ninja hound, I released three of the five female beetles on the hound. Knowing if I revealed that
I knew there was another ninja close by, the ninja would get flustered and try to regroup. And it
was just a game of lie and wait. Once she called the hound, it returned to it’s master’s location, in
which ninja hounds are known to do when called off,” says Shino, thinking of his teammate
Kiba. “When it arrived at her location, one of the female beetles left the dog to find the other ninja
and did,” Shino continues, as the beetles in the vortex disperse. “When it found her the male
beetles knew instantly. I just waited for the hound to provide the distraction for me to cross the
river unseen and assault her.” “Tish…” says Konan, in disgust that she was so easily found out.
Amazing, the rabbit masked anbu thinks to himself, I thought Shikamaru was the only ninja in the
leaf capable of thinking on that degree. The Hokage must not know about this Chuunin. “Burrrrk!” A
loud cry comes from the nin dog, as it stumbles out of the shrubs it returned to before the onslaught
of paper arrows. Konan and the protected ninja look towards the cry. Seeing a beetle infested dog.
You could no longer see the white fur, only the beetles. “Chibi!” Konan cries out, as the dog
collapses. Shino attacks, stabbing her to the left of her sternum and just below her left breast, with
a kunai. Ugh… thinking to himself, not showing a facial expression. Jumping back as Konan burst
into hundreds of paper birds, which then flew towards Shino, as he willed the following handsigns:
Tiger, snake, horse, snake, goat, “Doton, Mud Wall,” Shino spews a line of mud from his mouth onto
the ground. The mud then grew into a large wall of mud. As the paper birds slammed into the giant
mud wall, a paper kunai, with a paper bomb attached to it, flew at Shino’s back. Leaping to protect
Shino the rabbit masked anbu yanks his hands in Shino’s direction. Surprised, Shino sees the bear
masked anbu member leap to his defense. Once in position, crossing his arms, preparing to take
the explosion head on. On impact the bear masked anbu exploded into pieces. His head went one
way, his arms another, and the same for his legs. As the wooden debris hits the ground, Shino
realized that the rabbit masked anbu is a puppet master. Thinking back to when the bear masked
anbu used the ninja art Doku Kiri with the dragon handseal. It was the wrong handseal. Thinking to
himself, Shino remembered seeing Shizune do the poison fog Jutsu for Sakura’s training. She held
the tiger seal. Also remembering his bout with Kankurou of the Sand Village and his poison puppets.
The pieces of the puppet began to move and reattaching themselves to the broken up torso. Once
back together, the puppet returns to the rabbit masked anbu’s position. “Well, where is she?”
Kamiko asked, looking around. Back in the tree tops, “There”, Shino says as he points her out, she
also has returned to the canopies of the northeastern facing tree line. “Ninpo Shikigami no Mai,
(Paper style Dancing),” says Konan, as she turns her body into thousands of sheets of paper.
Extended from the back were two paper wings, giving her an almost angelic look. With two flaps of
the enormous wings, she took flight. Kamiko threw four senbon at the floating angel. With a flap of
her right wing, Konan lunches four dagger like paper projectiles at the incoming senbon, knocking
the senbon off course. Looking for Shino, those bugs are going to be troublesome, Konan thought to
her self. Jumping into the tree tops, the rabbit masked anbu and his puppet following suit. Once in
the trees he sends his puppet after the flying Konan. Once more Konan lifted her right wing and
thrusts it forward expelling many of the paper daggers at the puppet, driving deep into the puppet’s
wooden hide, also cutting it as many others wiz by. “Huh… wind element is infused with these paper
daggers!” the anbu member says, as he watch his puppet get shred to bits. Leaping out of the path
of the daggers, landing on the river, the anbu looks for her but all he sees is the clouds in the
sky. “Where did she go now?” said the rabbit masked anbu, looking at Shino. Shino, in the same
position, pointed to the cloud that was the same place in the sky that Konan was before. “There’s
nothing there but clouds,” said the anbu member in a state of confusion. Shino throws three kunai
at the cloud, on impact the cloud burst into hundreds of paper butterflies. They then flutter to the
ground around Kamiko. Readying her self, Kamiko releases a cloud of destruction beetles to defend
against the paper butterfly army. The butterflies form two Konans on both sides of the young bug
user. The two Konans begin to walk towards Kamiko, their arms became paper once more shooting
full sheets of paper at Kamiko. “Sensei!” the bug user calls out to Shino, to no response. “Ox, bird,
horse, bird, rat” calling out the handseals “Insect pillar Jutsu” says Kamiko, sending the cloud of
beetles into the ground, as she slams her hands on it. Sending five pillars of destruction beetles in
both directions, towards her attackers, bursting them into sheets of paper once more. Meanwhile, in
the sky the two wings lifted to shoot more paper daggers. Seeing this Shino jumps out of the trees,
rushing to Kamiko’s rescue. Upon reaching her, Shino says “snake, rabbit, ox, Doton Shinjuu
Zanshu no Jutsu!” Diving, and pulling Kamiko underground, dodging hundreds of the flung paper
daggers, as they hit the ground. The paper clones attached themselves to the rabbit masked black
op member restricting his movement.

“Just you two,” the airborne Konan says, looking down at the ground. A giant column of beetles
burst forth from the ground, under the winged akatsuki member. Not caught off guard she lifts the
wings again flapping only wind at the column of beetles, disrupting its structure. Out of the disrupted
beetle column lunges forward Kamiko senbon in hand, cutting the left cheek of the surprised Konan.
Kamiko, spinning in the air, to deliver a round house kick at Konan’s face. Ready Konan dodges it.
A swift heel drop from above Shino’s right foot connects to the top of Konan’s head, sending her
plummeting towards the earth. Flapping her wings, just before she hit the ground, Konan regains
her balance, ending the collision course. Seeing Kamiko falling, Shino unleashes beetles from his
hands and feet. The destruction beetles from his hands caught Kamiko. The beetles from his feet
formed a cloud, to grant Shino flight. “I don’t know why you are here, but you should give up or I
won’t take it easy on you. That’s the Aburame way, to crush the opponent no matter how small,”
Shino says as he hovered over the earth. Placing Kamiko in the tree tops where they first arrived,
the beetles returned to Shino, flying over his head in an intimidating manner. Taking to the skies as
if to deny the retreat request. Konan says, “I guess I’ll just have to go through you. As Pain has ask
me to accomplish a task and, I will!” “Ahgggh,” screamed the rabbit masked anbu member, in
agony as his legs and hands are broken by the tightening of the paper that encased his body. After
which releases him and flew toward Shino. Shino reacts with lighten fast reflects, dodging and
surfing on the cloud of insects, like only a ninja could. All the while, directing attacks from his
destruction beetles on Konan. Easily dodging and deflecting the incoming attacks, Konan forms the
bird handseal and four long tentacles extend from her beak in addition to the wings. Working them
all simultaneously, launching paper daggers, infused with the wind element, from her wings, and
thrusting the upper right and the lower left tentacles at Shino. Shino, able to dodge, leaps off the
cloud of insects, flipping upside down and spinning clockwise, lunching kunai to block against the
flying paper daggers, still suffering cuts from the wind element. Konan swings the lower right
tentacle at Shino, as he lands back aboard the insect cloud. Trying to dodge, Shino flips over the
horizontally swung tentacle, placing his hand on it as he does so. Only to find that the entire tentacle
is razor sharp, cutting into his hands, but maintaining his grip and not making a sound, as if to know
what was going to happen. Seeing a downward swing from the upper left tentacle, unable to dodge,
Shino clinched his hands together in a praying like manner, as the tentacle connects, sending Shino
pluming toward the ground. Shino hits the ground, a large explosion of dust, dirt, and rubble fills the
once clear air from the impact zone. “Shino!” Kamiko cries out to her fallen teacher. Dropping to a
lower attitude, Konan turns her attention to the last standing fighter. “You’re my last obstacle,”
Konan says in a hunting manner, as she landed on the ground, near Shino collision. “Ahhhh!” yells
Kamiko in a blind rage rushing toward the grounded angel. She is halted when she is grasped by
the throat with the upper right tentacle. Lifting little Kamiko off her feet and looking into her eyes as
if she was looking into her soul. “It’s over,” says Konan, raising the lower right tentacle, preparing
to impact the young bug user. “Plisssh,” the sound of ripping flesh fills the air, as the razor sharp
tentacle is implanted into Kamiko. “Tissh, it’s over,” said Konan. “Huh???” said Konan following the
previous statement, as Kamiko burst into thousands of destruction beetles, leaping from the crater
was an earth color Shino landing a right handed punch to the right side of Konan’s face, sending her
flying into the trees. Leaving a trail of destruction behind, a long ditch from the attacks origin to the
trees. Struggling to get to her feet, Konan asks, in a hurting voice, “How did he survive? And how
did he get so strong?” thinking back, “His hands!” she said, knowing the jutsu Shino used. “He made
the snake hand seal before I struck him with my tentacle, to perform the Earth Spear Jutsu; like
Kakuzu.” Her paper wings and tentacles mangled, most of the sheets are ripped. “Ushi, saru, u, ne,
i, tori, ushi, uma, tori, ne, tora, inu, tora, mi, ushi, hitsuji, mi, i, hitsuji, ne, tatsu, ushi, tora, ne,
ushi, saru, tori, u, ne, i, inu, saru, tori, tatsu, tori, ushi, uma, hitsuji, tori; Water Dragon Jutsu,” says
Shino, standing at the water’s edge. The river then grew into the shape of a dragon and shot
towards the fallen angel. Konan eyes widen, “He can use water too?” she asked, putting her
mangled tentacles forward to intercept the incoming dragon of water. An explosion of water, and
out of the water flew paper planes. “Doton, Mud River Jutsu,” a river of mud flows to the fleeing
planes, from behind where the mud wall once stood. “Doton, Mud Dragon Projectile,” commands
Shino, as a giant dragon’s head made of mud, spewing mud projectiles. Taking out the paper
planes, Shino realized too late that it’s a clone. Being struck from behind by two paper spears, one
in his right leg and the other in his right shoulder. “Got him,” says Konan, watching Shino fall to his
knees in pain. She walks out of the unfolding tree, which she made on the northeast side of the
river. “Cough…how?” Shino said in a painful voice. “Well, I would have to start from the beginning. I
was ordered by Pain to retrieve the treaty scrolls that would be delivered to the grass village. We
knew about the treaty renewal from an informant in the Leaf Village. I was to take the treaty
scrolls, making the Grass Village think the Village Hidden in the Leafs had denied the treaty.” Konan
says, “But on the way back into the village the informant was captured and found out. Revealing our
plot to the leaf, they prepared by dispatching a four man cell of anbu, one of which was a puppet as
you saw earlier. And they sent a chuunin to try and make it look like they knew nothing about the
plot. Chibi and I followed you and the girl from your camp site to the Grass Village.” Shino thinks
back to the two wooden snake embroidered pillars, as he remembers seeing three butterflies on
them. “Casting a ginjutsu on a chuunin and genin was easy,” Konan says, referring to Shino and
Kamiko. “I also tricked the anbu with paper clones, they followed them here. Once you and the girl
arrived, I had all that knew about the plot.” Shino looked down, thinking back to the Hokage’s
expression, when she gave him the mission. “Oh, they did not tell you about it huh? So typical, to
waste a ninja’s life for a treaty,” said Konan in discuss, thinking back to the silver war and the
Village Hidden in the Rain. “Thank you for confirming it,” says Shino as he stands to his feet unhurt,
waving the paper spears away. “A ginjutsu!” shouted Konan as she jumps back from the unscaved
Shino. “Not quiet,” Shino rebuddled. “Every move you have made was not a move of your own, you
have been under my control ever since I asked you to give up,” said Shino. “What!” asked Konan,
shocked by the comment. “You can’t stop me with a ginjutsu!

Release!” Konan shouts while holding a release handseal. After which she rushes in and swings at
the unprepared Shino, only to find that she swings through him. Shino evaporates into thin air,
appearing behind her looking at the ground, with his back turned and his hands inside his
pockets. “I thought I released this ginjutsu,” said Konan, turning to kick the new Shino. Only to find
him evaporate and reappear once more. “What is going on?!” asks Konan, frustrated, glaring at
Shino with murderous intent. “I told you before its not a ginjutsu,” Shino says, as a beetle lands on
his right index fingers, which is held in front of his face, as if to inspect it. As the beetle flies off
Shino explains. “It’s a ninjutsu at best; back in the chuunin exams I watched a battle between Kin
and Shikamaru. She used bells to trap Shikamaru in a ginjutsu like effect, making all who heard it
see what she wanted them to see. She made multiplies of herself, by ringing the bells at a certain
frequency. Hearing this, my bugs began to mimic almost the same noise by beating their wings. The
sound my bugs made was to protect their host… me. Unable to control them the sound grew louder;
and the jutsu was rendered useless. I was able to see the real Kin and so were my nearby
teammates. Shikamaru could hear them faintly, he was unable to see the real Kin but he was able
to see the real ninja wire, to trail it back to the real Kin. After this incident, I trained with my beetles
to cast this sound jutsu. That is what you are under; you can’t release it because it’s only a sound.
The constant sound keeps you under my control, there is no way you can turn off your hearing.”
Pausing, Shino releases four clouds of destruction beetles from his sleeves; located at his ten, two,
eight, and four o’clock; with him in the center. “Like I said in the ginjutsu’s Grass Village that two
aces are better,” says Shino as he held a paper bomb in his hand. What is he up to? Konan thinks to
herself as she reforms her wings. Shino launches the paper bomb at Konan. She leaps back
flapping her wings to achieve flight once more, dodging the paper bomb. It hits the ground on the
reverse side of the river’s edge. The explosion sends water and earth into the air. Konan lowers her
wings from her face, which she raised to shield from the explosion’s force and debris. Upon doing
so, she noticed Shino holding his blood covered hand on the ground, in a summoning position.

An explosion of smoke consumed Shino’s position. As it clears, Shino stands a top a gigantic
praying mantis with yellow eyes, and dressed in a white coat with a red circle on the back, with red
kanji words in it, saying, “King Shinobu.” Shifting his eyes towards the top of his head, “Shino, it’s
been a while,” says Shinobu, King Praying Mantis. Shino, with his four clouds of destruction beetles,
looked down at the menacing eyes, saying nothing. The large yellow eyes shifted to the battle
field. “I need your mist,” Shino says. Shinobu drops his head into a ready position. Shino executes
a string of handseals, “Mizurappa (violent water wave),” Shino says as the top right cloud of beetles
flew around his mouth. A powerful jet of water was then expelled from Shino’s mouth, at the
airborne Akatsuki member. Seeing this, Konan dives under the water attack. “How is he able to use
so many high level, nature element attacks?” Another string of handseals are completed, “Fire Ball
Jutsu,” yells Shino as the top left cloud of destruction beetles flew around his mouth. Shino then emits a jet of fire at Konan. “Huh?... three elemental jutsus!” says Konan as she evades the attack
by diving to the ground. Wondering how he is able to pull off these jutsus. Not knowing that Shino
placed hundreds of sacs of beetles in the graves of Konoha’s greatest fallen ninja. Once the egg
sacs hatched, they devoured the red and yellow bone marrow from the ninja’s skeleton’s, to
achieve their nature element for themselves. This is how he is capable of doing different elemental
jutsus. Once on the ground, Konan noticed the bug clouds retreating from his mouth. “Those damn
bugs!” Konan yells. Shino gives Shinobu the signal. “Ninpo Kasumi Enbu,” says Shinobu, as he
blows a large cloud of mist over the battlefield. After which, Shino dismissed Shinobu. After another
explosion of smoke, Shino stood upon a familiar cloud of bugs. Konan looking up at Shino; out of
the cloud of mist. “Wax Style, Wax Dome Jutsu,” says Shino, incasing Konan and the mist inside a
wax dome. A garbage truck size rhinoceros beetle, flew towards the Leaf Village, carrying the three
downed anbu members. Konan says, looking down at an explosive tag, “When did he place this
tag,” Shino holds the release handseal igniting the tag. The fire, from the explosion of the tag, also
ignited the mist that was incased inside the dome. An explosion of great magnitude sends chunks of
wax, trees, dirt, and flames into every direction, destroying the landscape leaving smoldering rocks and trees.

“Why did you come in and interfere? I had him!” yells Konan at Zetsu, in an unknown open
field. “But you didn’t,” says Zetsu’s white half. “Kasumi Enbu is a mist that is flammable, and since it
was enclosed inside the wax dome, that made it explosive,” says Zetsu’s black half. “Also, we were
ordered by Pain to come relieve you of your mission, being that you failed,” says Zetsu. “What!”
Konan replies.

Meanwhile, back at the battle site, Shino lowers himself to the ground, off of the cloud of floating
beetles. Upon inspecting the blast zone, Shino discovers thousands of burned sheets of paper, her
wings and tentacles, thought Shino. Knowing there was no means for her to escape on her own,
Shino gives a closer look, and finds the ground at the blast zone had be traveled through. She got
away, thought Shino. A small cloud of destruction beetle flew to Shino from the northeast. “It’s
done,” says Shino referring to his mission to deliver the treaty scrolls to the Grass Village.

Back at Konoha’s gates, Shino limps into the village, dripping blood from his bandaged wrapped
hands. Shino also bleeding from hundreds of cuts from the wind element that Konan willed. Shino
collapses, “Get the medic,” said the gate hand.

Hours later Shino awakes in a hospital room to a fist, blocking it Shino says, “Kamiko.” “You should
have let me go with you, I could have helped you!” Kamiko said with a sobbing voice. You helped
me more then you know, thought Shino thinking back to the insect clone he made of Kamiko, to fool
his opponent into thinking that he was not alone. Walking into Shino’s room was the Hokage, “I just
got the battle report from the anbu, they spoke highly of you, and they recommended you as well. I
know you turned down the offer before, but are you sure you don’t want to become a jounin?” said
the fifth Hokage to Shino. Shino replied, “No, I still don’t think I’m ready.”
