It is hard to put a finger on Boruto as far as what his progression would be. He's Uzumaki and Hyuga so I think he's gonna take after Hamura. His parents being Naruto and Hinata has to have some influence. Early on it was all Naruto but once he unlocks his dojutsu he will show his Hyuga side. He will also have elements of the chakra tree incorporated into his moveset. Throw all that into a pot mix it up and you get the new-gen Sasuke. Lets get to it.
I think Momoshiki's influence will lead him down a dark path. He will lose his friends, family, and strength. He may even die, but I think something like this is necessary for him to understand Naruto's struggle and find his true strength. "What does strength mean to a ninja?" that's part of the intro for shinobi striker the most recent Naruto game. I think those words come to haunt him once he loses it all as Momoshiki warns him. Around that time Koji will take him under his wing and become his sensei. I got to go a bit into Koji and who and what I think he is. Basically he is a surviving ninja monk from the Fire Temple. They had a particular type of chakra that could summon the spirit of the thousand-armed Kannon called the gift of the hermit group technique. Boruto will study this ability and learn to use ninshu. At this time Boruto will have rouge ninja status and won't be able to return to Konoha.
So he takes refuge in Mt. Myokobu with the toad sages.
He is told that his body is not strong enough to handle senjutsu but he trains with them anyway and eventually he unlocks a rarer state of consciousness that allows him to use the dark chakra that exists in the fabric of space and time. This technique is the otsutsuki equivalent to sage mode and is based on the strength of your eyes and the power of your mind. It allows for the use of abilities such as telekinesis, pyrokinesis, electrokinesis, clairvoyance, telepathy, teleportation, time travel, and entering pure land. As a dark sage, he is intuitively aware of the celestial chakra network and subtle changes in s/t for miles around him. At this point, he is able to activate the Jougan which allows him to manipulate all forms of chakra and he is now able to perform the gift of the hermit technique to summon and receive more chakra from the thousand-armed kannon spirit.
At this time its just Jougan and the gift of the hermit. When he performs this technique his karma seal begins to rapidly evolve. Now that he can control his karma seal he can activate it so that his body is sufficiently strong enough to perform senjutsu. Since he has mastered the gift of the hermit he receives nature's blessing. This blessing from the thousand armed spirit allows him to passively absorb nature chakra as he becomes a small point on the celestial chakra network that he had percieved earlier. Since he doesn't have a move that allows him to store chakra like byakugo he stores the chakra in pure land. Now his karma seal is complete and his Otsutsuki form travels to pure land when it is not being used and absorbs as much chakra as it can. So when Boruto activates his transformation he is as strong as a ten tails jinchuriki. Some time ago Boruto noticed that his Jougan gives off traces of tailed beast chakra. Now it is happening to both eyes. This is when he meets Hamura and he explains to him that his Jougan and Sarada's MS are linked and this was planned by him and his brother to protect the world from a threat prophecied by Hamura.
Pure Eye, Pure Land, hmm Pure World Reincarnation... Since he has amassed so much chakra in pure land and understands how to manipulate time and space using dark chakra he resurrects the Senju, Uchiha, Uzimaki, Hyuga and Moon Otsutsuki clans. Then he connects them via ninshu and forms a new shinobi alliance.
All that is probably way off but I like how it ties back into ninshu and their eyes being linked. You know the pure eye and evil eye thing.
