I'd Go with pain. The third could't win over orochimaru back then and i'm sure thet pain can.

Do we talk about the third before he died or when he was younger?
Anyway, I think pein would win. There was not much information on pain, so it would have been hard to prepare or even consider what might happen for the third.

I say the third even if Pain is strong the third would win because the third is a exceptional fight

I guess pain...i would really like the third to win but if he couldnt handle orochimaru then handling pain would be worse.
