The warm light from the last rays of the dawning sun hit his face as Scorps woke up. He was hazed like never before and he felt weak. As he looked around, he couldn’t help but have a sort of deja-vu feeling about his surroundings, yet he couldn’t exactly place it. He was in a bed, near a window. He struggled to open his eyes but the haze he fell into was still too strong. As he opened them again, through the window he could hear children playing and noticed the familiar sight of the Hokage Monument. At least he was in the village but why did that bring some sort of relief? As he tried to get up, his body hurt all over forcing him back down while releasing a slight moan. “You’re awake?! Man, you worried the hell out of me” he hears as a familiar voice reached his ears and a heavy body collasped upon him cruching him into a hug. “Argh!” he let go as his body acked a bit more. “Sorry sorry!” as Scorps looked up he reckognized the presence and it suddenlly all hit his mind “Scary, where is Izuna??”. The sadden, heavy look on his friends face said it all. “And Wesobi??” this time, his friend simply looked aside, avoiding eye contact. “We did what we could, but Lili left Izuna...beyond salvation. Wesobi was taken...” the sadness in his voice was palpable. “What happened to me? Why am I here? How long has it been? My head is hazed and it all seems so distant” said Scorps as he ignored the pain and sat up on the bed. “It was 4 nights ago. When you were being attacked the Seal of Watchers awakened in my palm and I returned to the village with Typhon. When we arrived, the village was in panic and you were lying near Izuna, both unconscious and badly wounded. Near you there was the decapitated body of Akiza and a catatonic Pop.” said scary as he pulled a chair and sat next to his bed. “So they escaped? But how? And the guards? and the barrier?” the frustration was taking hold of Scorps as he tried to come to terms with what just happened and with what was returning to his mind. “The guards were heading towards your location when the east side of the village virtually blew up. Someone had planted countless explosive tags which blew up in the worst of times. From my analysis, I think it was Pop. The rest, I was hoping you could tell us. We know Lili was there because Akisha saw her as he lied in the rubble of the tavern but the rest is a mistery.”

It seemed like so long had passed when Scorps finally talked “I don’t remember much. We noticed that Wesobi was in danger and that 2 unknown ninjas had entered the village. We both, me and Izuna, when to intercept. Somehow they were messing with our sensing and they managed to enter without the detection system triggering. When we reached the tavern, Pop had injured Wesobi and Akiza and Lili were about to take him away. The rest...”. Scary Yamato straighten in the chair “Continue...try your best”. As he focused and tried harder, Scorps remembered seeing Akiza and Izuna battling fiersely, with the Hokage taking the clear upper hand as he used his trademark water techniques. Akiza was sweating just to keep up. He himself was managing to hold up his sister but barely. However, in a twist of fate, things changed dramatically. At a point Akiza and Lili switched and the battle flow altered drastically. Akiza was very different from Lili and fought with brute power and sheer madenning lust. Lili was precise, pinpoint and never made a wasted move. The rest was nothing but a mishmash of scattered feelings and moments in Scorps head. He remembered the feeling of Akiza’s warm blood on his mouth as it sprayed on him as her head roled on the floor. He remembered looking and seeing Izuna locking Lili in a water sphere nearby only to have her blast the water all around as she activated her Susanoo. A sharp pain on his left hip and Scorps remembered seeing blood gushing out of him. He didn’t remember when or how but Akiza injured him severely. He fell to the ground, hazed from the loss of blood. In the ground he could see glimpses of the fight between the Hokage and his sister as he drifted in and out of consciense. Then, the vision of Izuna falling to the ground scared his eyes. “NO!” But it was too late. One of his sisters twin swords had already pierced through the hokage’s guts. He had never seen Lili like that. Her right arm was dripping blood and was apparently disabled and Scorps could see many bruises on her, some severe, other moderate. As she gazed upon Scorps, he tried to sit down, struggling to get some strength, as he activated one of his healing techniques ‹‹this is no good, it will take time to heal this...time i don’t have››. She then diverts her gaze at Wesobi, who had somehow managed to escape the violent exchange of techniques that had just happened around him but was somehow unconscious “Well, the price was high but you’re ours. Akiza was getting old anyways and I told her that she would eventually go blind for using her eyes so carelessly”. Scorps’ fears were taking shape as Lili approached Wesobi “What do you want with him? Stop! This is not like you!” said Scorps as he struggled to stand up. “Not like me? You know not was is like me or not! And you? Who are you to lecture me? That eye you so proudly use is not yours! It was taken away from one of your dieing comrades wasn’t it? And you lecture me? Lecture yourself!” Lili replied. And her words were like a hot needle sticking in butter. They punctured into Scorps mind and drained him of the will to fight. His sister ability to influence others through mental breakdown and word games was still intact, even in her injured state. “I won’t let you...Mokuton!” and 2 pilars of wood rise from the ground and grab on to lili. She was surprised and in shock. “You...wood? Scorps...when did you ... ?” but before Scorps could reply the wood withered and died, falling to the ground as a mushy mass of dried up sawdust. He couldn’t even manage to figure or evaluate what happeened when he saw him. A tall, well built ninja appeared seemingly out of nowhere as if he just materialized out of thin air and stood beside Lili. As he put his right arm around her, helping to support her weight, Scorps noticed that he wore a cloak as they did when they arrived and couldn’t actually see who he was. The ninja moved his head back slightly, as if looking towards Scorps from within the cloak and all he could feel was an avanlanche of pain. Burning pain. It was as if someone had just dripped him in a pan of searing hot oil. The pain was so much that Scorps lost conscious.

Sitting on the hospital bed, Scorps gasped just remembering what happened that night. As he spoke, Scary was clearly intrigued “From what you say, this was set in motion quite some time ago. Although I still wonder how they managed to plan this all... And mainly, how Lili bested Izuna, the Water Sage... And now, one more character is in play...” Scorps was also curious as the whole situation was unprecedented. “Pop...did you get him? He’s the key! We must...” but scary didn’t let him finish. “Yes, we have. But its too late. His mind is beyond repair. He was so manipulated through Genjutsu by those two that his mind is no longer there. Dispite our best tries, he is still under a genjutsu of some sort. We have done everything but nothing is able to release him. I suspect that they used so much Genjutsu on him to condition him and manipulate him into doing their biding that his chakra flow cannot return to normal. And, if we did manage to release him, its likely he cannot actually remain sane enough to be of any use.”
Scorps pulled his sheets off and dropped his legs on the side of the bed. “Then we need to start right now”. Scary grabbed Scorps by the shoulder and stopped him, with a sad look on his face “What? Let me go! You know fairly well that non in the Ninja World understands Genjutsu better than me. We need to release him to get some answers and if its to be done, only I can do it” but the answer hit him like a sledgehammer “You can never mold chakra again.”
“What do you mean? This is not the time to joke! I can mold chakra! I can...” but Scorps noticed...he couldn’t. Somehow he almost didn’t have any chakra and he was feeling his stamina drained by something, as if he was molding a very high ranked technique without his will. It was strange that he didn’t notice immediately. “What happened with me?” Scary took some time to answer but when he did it shocked Scorps “Not only was 90% of your body severely burnt by some form of radiation, but Lili also infected your wounds with a chakra parasitic fungus. Because it was hours before you were found and given treatment, it had infected you beyond treatment when the medical ninjas reached you. It resides in you eating up your chakra constantly. You survived because of two reasons: your immense chakra took time to eat giving your body a time to...” but Scary paused and looked down.
“A time to what?”
“Respond. You are constantly releasing a stange chakra that is countering the fungus at the same rate as it mutiplies. This balance is whats keeping you alive but not even Nexus could find what was wrong with you. There is nothing we can do for you. Friend, you can still be a valued member of our village. Your experience and expertise are still needed.”
“Radiation? Fungus??? You’re telling me I’m useless now? I can’t fight?! My brother was kidnapped, bringing about the end of our world, my sister is suddenly part of the it and just killed our Hokage and our friend and you’re telling me i can’t do anything???”
“Yes.”
Silent filled whe room. Scorps was frustrated and angered and his mind was working at 100 an hour, trying to find a solution. “Well, I cannot do anything at the moment other than rest. But I have a plan. We need to find out the “why” behind all of this and to do so we need to search for answers in the 3 leads we have. Call Typhon and tell him to use the Clumsy Stomp of the Elephant on Pop and ask Inchato to interrogate him. I’ll depart tomorrow and search for Akiza’s closest friend. He is bound to have some insight on her role. You will contact Alucard and ask about a ninja called Reborn. He is the last student Lili taught and I bet he has some answers.”
“Alucard, the unnamed Sage? You’re out of your mind? Kirigakure is our enemy! And Akiza’s friend? You mean Swordmaster Keotsu? He’ll kill you on sight! You are defenseless! You cannot put yourself under such risk!” said Scary in a worried tone.
“If Lili was together with Akiza, the Sharingan Sage and Mistress of Akatsuki, it means she is a Kirigakure Missing-Nin. Alucard will want to cooperate because he’s bound to have as much reason to search for her as we do. Keotsu won’t kill me or attack me. And if he does, even without being able to use Ninjutsu, I’m not a defenseless little boy.” said Scorps with confidence as he stood up and walked over to his clothes, starting to dress himself as he tried to ignore the countless bandages covering the multitude of wounds on his body and the big wound dressing on his hip, covering the near fatal wound he had received.
“Sigh...you are as stubborn as me and Izuna. What a group we made. Still, I cannot let you leave and you will not leave." the serious tone of Scary's words made the message quite clear. Scorps couldn't leave. "By the way, this arrived as you were in coma. Izuna and I wanted it to be a surprise for the spring festival but...well...Here.” Scary handed Scorps a scroll with a Borion seal in it.
“The council of Sages acknowledges Scorps as an official Sage which shall hereby be known as Scorps, the Sage of the Illusionary Touch...” read Scorps. “I’m a Sage?”
“Yes, like me and Izuna. We handed a recomendation to the council and they approved you. I’m sorry it comes at such a bad timing but congratulations non the less.”
Scorps laughed out loud. “I’m as helpless as I haven’t been in decades, suffering from some sort of “time bomb fungus” that can take over my chakra at any time, Izuna is dead, you’re the Hokage, or did you think i wouldn’t notice your face on the mountain outside? Lili is on a murdeous surge and my brother was kidnapped by her, probably to exploit his Kekkei Genkai and I’m now a Sage. Ah ah aha ah! I’m sorry, but the irony of the situation overwhelms me." Scorps grabs his clothes and gets dressed, trying to hide the pain overwhelming his body "Well, if i can't leave, I'll try to be of use anyhow. I'll contact a friend in the Land of Iron, Zenryoku. He's not an active warrior but he has some pull. I hope that through him we manage to contact Keotsu and a certain some level of intelligence on Akiza.
"Good you came to your senses. By the way, do you actually know what is this technique you are apparently using to counter the fungus' effects?"
“No. I honestly don’t. My sensing abilities are intact and I honestly don’t know what my chakra is doing. My healing techniques aren’t nothing like this. Its as if my body is decaying the fungus as it reproduces. Also, I think I can but...I can still use Genjutsu right?”
“In theory, yes. But be careful. If you spend too much chakra, the fungus will win that thug war and actually overwhelm your body. Well, I need to go. When I have more news I'll contact you.” Scary bumped Scorps fist and walked out.
Left to his thoughts, Scorps fell to his knees. The pain and effort of standing all this time and trying to make it seem his was ok was just too much. ‹‹Dam... I’m still too weak›› He picked his tool belt and his staff and walked out. As he made his way through the village, he walked towards the villages main gates, taking some pleasure in the fresh air of the early night that caressed his face and he couldn’t help but be in amazement with all that just happened. ‹‹So much changed in so little time. So much has happened... The world is about to change and I dunno if we can’t keep up. Everything in my body tells me that this journey will end with sorrow and pain... Sorry Scary but this is not the first time I disobeyed a Hokage's orders››

And Scorps left Konohagakure through the main gate, hiding his face and suppressing his chakra, running towards the Land of Iron as fast as he could, trying to get ahead of the changes of this world and the forces working in that shadows that wanted to end it.
