As we all know, Oda is a genius at storytelling. One of my favorite narrative elements about Dressarossa and WCI so far is that Oda is highlighting the main strength of the Strawhats by forcing them to go hundreds of chapters without each other, and that is that even against vastly more powerful opponents, the Strawhats together can work miracles. These two arcs are also giving individual SH's the chance to shine as there are only half the crew members to highlight. In this thread I'd like to start discussing examples of where in Dressarossa or WCI, the SHs were extremely hindered because they were not together. Taken altogether, I think these examples form a beautiful pattern that informs the narrative and builds the world of One Piece in a unique way.
Mansherry temporarily healed the wounds of fighters in Dressarossa, which could have been handled by an expert physician like Chopper (Law was preoccupied ).
I posit that Nami or Brook might have had a solid chance of knocking out Sugar from a distance despite Trebol, something Usopp did after 2 tries, although it did awaken his Haki so good on him!
Brook would have been able to distract the Townspeople that were trying to kill everyone after the bounties were posted.
Sanji helping in the Dressarossa officer fight could have freed Zoro to help in Luffy, Law v. Doffy, Trebol, Bellamy.
And I'm sure we all remember this comedy gold moment, from the manga, but really brought to life in the anime. Zoro's plan would have ended at 1) get the stupid cook to kick me over there. Alternatively, Sanji might have been able to at least stop Pica's rocks, and he definitely would have been able to make it in time
So far in WCI, it wouldn't have been definitive, but I think that Zoro would have been able to take Cracker. I'm not a fanboy, I promise. I definitely think he'd be able to cut through to Cracker's final form, and at that point it would be a sword fight.
Can Franky Shogun fit inside Capone? I'd love to find out :-D
I can't think of someone that could hold Brulee and a mirror better than a Lady that can make limbs out of thin air. Although, she can't fly, but once Chopper identified he Brulee strategy, Robin would have been great for subduing her.
Usopp's crowd control would have been invaluable at the tea party, although Kata might have still seen it coming.
[I think you guys get what I mean. I fully expect we will get more examples of this kind of stuff moving forward in WCI. Like I said earlier, this narrative tool also highlights individual attributes, things like Robin's ability to spy and strategize, Chopper's analytic ability in figuring out how to use Brulee's powers to the SHs benefit, or Franky's natural manliness. What do you guys think about this device from Oda? And can you think of any more examples?]
