A possible story I made up:
So it seems Madara summoned Gedo Mazo on his verge of death and cheated it.
Knowing he will die soon he willingly gave his eyes to Nagato so that he can revive him, knowing he will die soon.
After this he met Obito and fixed him up with Hashirama Cells. Madara then probably trained him well.
Madara and Obito had a bond, having same mind sets about the world and everything, Obito was very close to Madara, seeing him as a close friend.
They both shared a dream of world peace, using Mugen Tsukuyomi
Years past and Madara died, with Obito deeply saddened, he awakened his Mangekyou Sharingan, he was grieved with his identity, started to hate himself, he didnt like himself.
He then started to call himself Tobi, a new person, he wore a mask to hide his identity.
Because Obito doesnt exist to himself, he is nobody.
He then sets out plans to revive Madara,
Even as going far enough to create Akatsuki.
Hence this ARC.
