Of course he had predecessors! I think he's pretty villainous so he may be a way to extend the series so that Kubo can make yet more ass-pulls. If that is true Aizen was good!

i mean, maybe he's immortal. and let's not go that far. lol aizen was never good. he practiced hollowfication experiments on shinigami w/o their consent. he was ready to sacrifice an entire town to make a key to get to the soul king. if the sk is villainous. then aizen would've been right to wanna kill him. thats all.

The Soul King.... Well I have a theory, before The Soul King was a king he was like Bach.... every shinigami has the soul king's blood flowing in them.... Thousands of years before the war.... Qunices lived in SS, and they were at peace off and on then chaos came in and each race went to war, Shinigami won.... and Qunices were sent to earth.

the soul king is probably a manifistation of a stronger hygakou from the ss arc.
I believe aizen just did what he did to create a being (ichigo) that would be strong enough to defeat him because aizen has obviously met him before and is not fond of him. Aizen was probably never a bad guy he just wanted to push ichigo to greater strenghts
