I've been thinking about this for awhile. The sharingan (mainly 1 - 3 tomoe) has some interesting development patterns.
Specifically, I've been wondering what exactly determines how many tomoe an Uchiha awakens upon first awakening the sharingan. I am mainly referencing the fact that the likes of Sasuke/Madara/Sarada only awakened their sharingan eyes with 1 tomoe originally, while the likes of Obito/Itachi skipped straight to 2 tomoe.
What do you guys think determines whether an Uchiha starts off with 1, 2 or 3 tomoe?
One theory would be that it is based on the amount of grief or the strength of emotion that an Uchiha experiences when they first awaken the sharingan, but here is why I don't think that is the case:
Sasuke first awakened his sharingan when he saw his entire family/clan be slaughtered by none other than his beloved older brother. If it was purely based on the amount of grief or trauma, then by all rights, Sasuke should have gone straight to at least 3 tomoe if not MS right then and there. Yet Sasuke only awakened 1 tomoe.
Yet, Obito awakened his sharingan simply when Kakashi got his eye slashed (but nobody had died yet). Despite the fact that Obito didn't really lose anything or anyone in that moment, he still awakened 2 tomoe instantly.
Are you telling me that Obito's grief over Kakashi getting injured > Sasuke's grief at losing his whole family?! I don't think so.
Now, Obito was at an older age (13) when he awakened his sharingan than what Sasuke (age 8) was when he awakened his sharingan. Perhaps it is based on the age at which you awaken the sharingan? Maybe, but I doubt it. Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't Itachi also 8 when he awakened his sharingan? Yet, Itachi skipped straight to 2 tomoe like Obito did.
Perhaps, it is based on the individual power of the Uchiha at the point at which they awaken their sharingan? After all, Obito and Itachi were both already at least somewhat experienced ninjas when they awakened their sharingans, while Sasuke was still an academy student. However, this theory breaks down when you realize that Madara only started out with one tomoe (like Sasuke), and at the time of Madara's sharingan awakening, Madara was already an experienced war veteran who killed many adult Senju clansmen.
Not to mention that Madara and Sasuke are Indra's transmigrants, so if you go by chakara prowess, then Madara and Sasuke should easily wreck Itachi and Obito. Yet, Madara and Sasuke only started out with one tomoe.
Perhaps it has to do with the whole straight comma thing versus whatever Itachi and Obito have? Maybe. Madara never went into too much detail about that aside from noting that straight comma grants swift movement, and that both he and Sasuke had it.
One last thing: In Naruto/Sasuke's battle against Haku, Sasuke had two tomoe in one eye, and one in another. Do you think that sharingan eyes can evolve independently from each other?
What do you guys think about these things?
