~"You'll just have to find the right partner."
"I don't know how to dance."
"I'll show you how."~
Cap's POV
S.H.I.E.L.D. was throwing a dance celebration. Why in the world was a top secret international government having a dance party, you may ask? I don't exactly know, but that's what the army did a long time ago after big victories. Saving the world is a big victory, I guess, but to many, any victory is a seldom one, one we should always take great pleasure in. I'm not saying we shouldn't go to war non-stop or party all the time, but it's good to have a happy medium. This, to me, was not a happy medium.
"I'm not a dancer. I've actually never danced before." I told a shocked Thor and Bruce Banner. As Bruce let out a weak laughter (He tried to consume it), Thor put his hand on my shoulder.
"Captain, you will find the right partner. I, Thor, promise thee, but how does one not know how to dance?" the Asgardian questioned me.
"You'll be fine. You don't have to lead all the time. Let your partner lead. Follow a little moka moka!" Banner's hips and hands awkwardly waved in the air, causing both Thor and myself to give menacing glares at him.
"Ahem!" Thor silenced the....great...dancing. "Mr. Rogers, do you have a partner or no?"
And this was the problem. I didn't. "Well, no, I don't." Nervously, I started fixing my tie. "I don't have a date exactly."
More laughs came from Banner and now Thor. I didn't peg Banner for one of such humor, but Thor is quite the laughable guy and he had more to say.
"You're an above average sized male human. Shouldn't women be gathering themselves around you and trying to make you swoon?"
"Yeah, I mean I've received some propositions, but I haven't found the right partner yet. Well, I have, but...." After those words escaped my mouth, both Thor and Banner thought of the rest. The laughter ceased and the two men smiled and wished me luck before going with their dates, Jane and Betty. Come to think of it, everyone had a date, but me. As everyone expected, Clint and Natasha went together and Nick and Maria were going as friends. Hm, come to think of it I haven't seen Pepper with Tony. How strange.
Tony's POV
"Pepper, how can you be late to this? After telling me how important our relationship is, which by the way I saved the world and that wasn't really relevant, but it's a little tidbit, a little note, in this conversation on my behalf, you miss this. Care to explain Ms. Potts?" I spoke into my cellphone inside the closet. As if it matters because S.H.I.E.L.D. probably has camera everywhere, like me.
"Tony I know this is important, but I can't help it. This meeting will make or break your company. You sent me here after all!" Peppy retorted.
"That's true, but I, Tony Stark, am asking you to forget my company. All I want is to dance with someone beautiful tonight. All be honest, if you don't show up I might be trying to play spy with Black Widow." How Pepper must've loathed that idea. I, however, wasn't opposed to it.
"Funny, Tony, funny. I'm sorry I can't make, but have fun at the dance. I have to go." Pepper's voice started to fade, but I couldn't let her go, not yet.
"Wait! Tonight something extremely important and utterly mind blowing will occur. You might want to be here, just to witness it." I desperately told her. She had to get the memo!
"Tony, nothing is more important than this. I love you and you know it, but this is what you want. I'll call you later bye." and there it was, she was gone.
"Yeah, nothing is more important than my company." Talking to no one, but myself. Then why do I have this? Fiddling in my pocket, I pulled out the wedding ring.
"Pepper, this was the night. Jeez, I'm an idiot."
Cap's POV
Everyone's dancing, having fun. Betty is bringing out Bruce's, erm, wild side, Thor and Jane are laughing it together as always, Natasha is getting a drink with Clint, Fury is giving a small speech, and Tony is...nowhere. Maybe he's late. He always wants to steal the show.
Going to the bar was the easiest thing. I can hold anything down. Drinking isn't my thing, but sometimes even a soldier has to let his problems wash away. It's times like these I miss you Peggy. You were my one love. I know you told me to find another partner, but I'll never find a shorter, brunette, who has the smart whit you do.
Tony's POV.
Damnit Tony, damnit. Marriage is overrated and completely un-flashy. I love Pepper, but do I love her that much? Anyways, I have to find someone to dance with for one night, tonight. Man, talking to yourself Stark isn't working very well. Hey, you're finding answers. Good point, Tony. Hey look, I forgot my drink. Earlier I brought some wine into the closet. Don't ask. I might as well drink some.
Pouring the glass and opening the door to join the crowd, I saw another blonde, tall, and controlling person reminiscent of Pepper. That particular person was alone. Hm. Maybe I'm not an idiot or I am, but I'm innovative.
Cap's POV
Turning, I noticed Tony, through all the people, alone, drinking. Maybe we can drink together. Pepper wasn't there, so why not? Heh, maybe even he'll dance with me and my the right partner.
Cap and Tony's POV
"Yeah, I want him to dance with me tonight."
~End~
My first Steve/Tony fanfiction. I love Steve and Peggy a lot and they are my number one Marvel pairing, but Tony/Steve is second and sense she's basically dead or dying in old age, Steve and Tony are next in line. Just a small fun FF. This comes from Steve loosing his dance partner (Peggy) and now he must find a new one. Maybe I'll do a small sequel one day.
