Yeah you realize sometimes we quote you and start typing before we actually see your ¨My bad¨ posts, right?

Clearly, but the message was to stop future quotes from anyone who comes in the thread later. Otherwise I would've quoted her like I am now.

Except that Ulbricht is an American citizen (right?), and Versuvio is not Lol

That may be so, but this site in question is run based on the laws of Iceland(which isn't even covered in ice, did you know that cuz I didn't), so it should be beyond like NB is.

Well all I was trying to say is that the US would have no jurisdiction over V.

This would absolutely destroy the internet though if he's found guilty.

The same way they should have no jurisdiction over this dude.

I'm not an expert on neither America's or the Netherland's laws, (so as I said, I may be wrong), but why wouldn't the US have jurisdiction over its own citizen? It depends on the criminal code. In my country, for example, if I go to Thailand and have *** with some child prostitutes, I'm still criminally liable in my country, regardless of the territorial law of the country in which I committed the crime. That is because I'm liable by citizenship. Is it different in the US?
In any case, the Netherlands would never extradite V to the US. Drugs are legal in the Netherlands anyway, right?

This could also leak outside the internet too though, landlords could be thrown in jail if someone is caught selling drugs on there property.

Than logically speaking, If I sell drugs on grounds of the capital building then the Governor is liable.

That's true in theory but if the government is known for anything, it's protecting their own ass.

I did not know this was happening. Glad I actually took the time to read the whole thing.

To answer your questions, I do see why this is important. Media networks like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, etc can possibly be affected by this and quite possibly, genuinely innocent people who wouldn't know what their site is being used for besides its intended purpose. I do think the government is a little frustrated, throwing out all these charges just to hit him with something. Seems like they may want to make an example of him and highlight how much they frown upon it

I do think the American government will try and make some reform to where our internet freedom may be lessened due to this case, a drug trafficking site like that is actually pretty serious but I think they are making DPR a scapegoat in a sense. Sure they can get some of the criminals but their making him out to be the head honcho since it is his site IMO. I'm curious to see how this case will do now. Maybe some of your biasedness persuaded me but I see him as a libertarian as well.

I sorta agree with Yanks. Couldn't the people who did the actual drug trafficking/illegal activities get caught now that the person who only provided a platform for said activities has been caught? I think that they deserve to be punished more than this guy.

Exactly. I don't know whether its a matter of not being able to find them, or whether it's simpler to just lay the charges on Ross.
.

I actually get the difficulty in finding out the identities of the people who dealed drugs and all, considering that Silk Road was a deep web site, but still, its only a difficulty.

Which is why I wanted to make you aware of the bias in the beginning of the thread. I'm definitely pro-Ross, and it would have been unfair to present this as a neutral thread.

January 5th, 2015.

How many people were estimated to participate in the transactions? There's also that some of them may not have been citizens like Ross and out of their jurisdiction.

I have no idea. I was not a member of the Silk Road nor am I an expert on it; I do not have access to all the information regarding the Silk Road. Look it up yourself. I'm interested as well.

Also, is it possible that RICO could come into play?

It shouldn't. RICO allows leaders of criminal organizations to be tried, but Ross asserts that he wasn't a leader of a drug cartel. He didn't make orders for drugs or push instructions around.

According to this[ ], there were 146,946 buyers and 3,877 vendors
