All very similar characters and fit into the same category.

Mei is a cheerful person, and will smile even when swearing to kill Ao after she mishears him. She is usually kind and peaceful, speaking well of others and attempting to avoid conflict. Mei proved to be more open-minded than the other Kage, as she had shown respect and was willing to listen to Gaara, at one point even defending him from the Tsuchikage's disrespectful behaviour, and later showing admiration for Gaara after seeing how pure-hearted he was.

Shizune is always level-headed, practical and a rational thinker. As a result, she is the one who tends to stress over details, such as Tsunade's tendency to gamble and to think with her heart. She often gets comically worked up over any irrational decision Tsunade makes. Shizune also looks after Tonton, Tsunade's pet pig. She is also a very kind and calm person but will immediately rush to Tsunade's aide and in contrast, will become fierce and somewhat ruthless; a testament of her loyalty to Tsunade. At the same time however, she is not timid and is not afraid of objecting to Tsunade's decisions or voicing her opinion as seen when she even alerted the Konoha Council to Tsunade's intention to send Naruto on a mission that Shizune thought would put him in great peril.

Konan was smart, stoic, calm, and level-headed (much like her partner, Nagato, was). As a child, she was bright, compassionate, and relatively cheerful, in comparison to Yahiko's tough attitude and Nagato's sensitivity. However, the traumatic events since then have led her to become a very serious person, and she never spoke during Akatsuki meetings.

Anko is easygoing, tomboyish, playful, stubborn, bold, rough, short-tempered and sometimes hyperactive, which makes her somewhat similar to Naruto Uzumaki in many ways. Despite portraying several "Naruto-like" habits, she has shown to be very knowledgeable and studious. However, she is also shown to have a bloodthirsty (in a literal sense) side, as shown when she scratched Naruto's face with a kunai, and licked away his blood (in the anime, she merely used her finger to wipe it off).[ Anko has also shown a slightly sadistic side and is seemingly not the most sympathetic of people, which comes as no surprise, being the former student of Orochimaru.

They have traits of their own, which makes them totally opposite characters

So being second best Medical ninja means useless? Sakura is one of the characters that improved the most, she had no skills whatsoever, she had no clan skills, yet she now has one of best abilities now. Medical ninjutsu, super-strenght, intelligence, perfect chakra control, byakugou, genjutsu. Now tell me who is Naruto without kyuubi, who is Sasuke without his sharingan, how strong would they be? They had OP abilities to begin with.

You are giving the writer more credit than he deserves. There's nothing I adore more in anime than well-written female characters (Soul Eater, Ano Hana, FMA Brotherhood etc) but it really is Kishi's self-admitted weak spot. Characters like Anko and Shizune are nowhere nearly fleshed out enough to be actually analysed or counted at all and when was the last time any of them were really that relevant?

Submissive and calm Archetype:
Hinata, Samui, Konan and Kurenai.

Passionate and Angry (generally written as male characters) Archetype:
Tayuya, Temari, Guren, Tenten, Anko, Kiba's Mother, Shikamaru's mother

Sweet Childhood icon (with quirks and anger management issues) Archetype:
Sakura Haruno, Tsunade, Moegi, Karui, Karin, Ino Yamanaka, Rin, Kushina etc. (this one is ridiculously big)

It's silly to defend Kishi's portrayal of women, he simply knows he has no skill in the area, no biggy. He just creates parallels between them all to avoid having to create another character. There are a few special cases such as Kurotsuchi, Mei and Shiho but this is entirely because we haven't seen enough of them. (Don't get me wrong though- Ino and Tsunade are greatly written characters, I think they're great- just a tad too similar to those around them)

Numbers out.

Well if we had to compare with other manga females, sure they go down.

Bleach,Fairy Tail,One piece has much better females and they actually own, while in Naruto females stay in background

Rin doesn't fit there.

One Piece maybe. The other two are some of the worst female representation I can think of outside of the 1930s.

One piece females.. -sigh-. It is kind of sad, that Oda is using Robin and Nami as a "pleasing" the men tools.

Bleach is freaking awsome, lets not forget Unohana now.

Oh of course I forgot about One Piece o_O

To be honest whilst the female characters in Naruto are pretty mistreated and shallow, at least they're not all walking *** appeal objects. Shonens suck man.

List of treatment of females in Shonens (best to worst)
-Soul Eater
-Fullmetal Alchemist
-Blue Exorcist
-Attack on Titan (only 1 bad female and even thats debated (mikasa)
-Naruto
-Bleach
-One Piece
-Katekyo Hitman Reborn
-Fairy Tail

Just the anger management bit. Taking away one element doesn't make her a good character, just still a Sakura clone.

She's not a Sakura clone, she is much different. Though since you probably brushed over he character I don't blame you for being so misinformed.

Also being a characters parallel does not mean they are the same, unless you consider kakashi and Orochimaru to be Sasuke clones.

And no, she doesn't fit in that group at all, considering the other characters you included in it.

Attack on titan has Mikasa that one female to make it seem like females are considered strong. =D.

In Naruto most females are medical ninja, and I find it pretty offensive when people underrate the danger of medical ninjutsu. Oh lets not forget Toka senju, known for her genjutsu prowess in the time of the Uchiha clan. =D

Naruto has done well with Tsunade and Mei personally. Kishimoto did really good with Tsunade, making her a logical and independent female. But I can't blame kishimoto , since he himself is a guy =x.

Let me settle this
Rin is to Sakura as Obito is to Naruto
Believe it or not they both took different paths

Rin is like the passive version
Sakura is the aggressive version.

Sakura was probably like Rin only when she was a little kid. But there are many similarities

Yes, that's completely correct. :yeah:

-----
Rin isn't passive.

Kid sakura =/= kid Rin - She was shy and timid while Rin was essentially very similar to her teenage self. She was seemingly outgoing and unconditionally kind.

Teenage sakura =/////////= Teenage Rin - No explanation needed.

Adolescent Sakura =/= Teenage Rin - Still no explanation needed.

----
There are fewer similarities than you would expect.

In battle? Sure, as long as she gets three more years of development and training.

Of course Rin solos if it's part 1 sakura.
