The only reason Sasuke surpassed/will surpass Itachi is because

Itachi refused to seek power.

Its super frustrating the author went this way but thats just how it is. In terms of intelligence, battle tactics, wisdom, achievements, natural gifts, pretty much everything Itachi is superior.

Sasuke's only advantage is that he plucked the eyes out.

His motive wasn't to become more powerful, but to give Sasuke new power, if he wanted to do so, he could have done that easily, and Sasuke is going to surpass Itachi, but it isn't because Itachi refused to seek power...:erm:

i think people need to stop praising itachis greatness, to be honest sasuke has surpassed itachi mainly in the sharingan department and just because itachi is smarter doesn't mean he will always win and naruto is proof of this he has beat many ninja who out rank him in skill and intelligence. itachi was a great shinobi but he has to be surpassed and you shouldn't make excuses as it comes of as pathetic, itachi chose his way of living and he wanted to pass his power on to sasuke.

you call sasukes logic dumb but try and look at it from his point of view, he spends his life trying to get revenge against his clans killer and when he does he finds out it was a mission assigned by his home village who turned his brother into a double agent, and you expect him to have reasonable logic.

I'm not an Itachi fanboy but for once I must say that Itachi was too hax and awesome.... So it's better that someone like him didn't become power hungry and it's good that he decided to make his Bro powerful instead of himself.... His battle intellect is yet to be surpassed.... Only SO6P has more battle intellect than him for obvious reasons.... I wouldn't count Hashi cause Hashi was fooled by Madara at VOTE fight and Madara tends to get carried away by his pride during fights....
