@alphascythian Because it is fiction almost all real-life components are thrown out regardless.

Everybody knew that going in. We're not watching to see if he'll fail, we're rooting to see exactly HOW he succeeds. That's what the underdog story is mostly about. Not his combat prowess, but his position as a shinobi and how having his back against the wall since birth is what drives him to push forward.

It's not at all like betting on the winning team, because there is no bet. Knowing the outcome doesn't at all change the course. Like I've been saying for years, it's the ride and not the destination.

It actually may be entirely possible you approached his character a little wrong. I mean, there is no set way to actually approach a character, but maybe switch your point of view a tad and Naruto may be surprise you.

But he's not for everyone, and you are certainly not at fault for disliking him.

Delving from this perilous argument, why don't we discuss why we like his character? What power-ups he should get? Who he should end up with? Hokage or not? Sage or not? Bring Sasuke back or not?

These are things that should be discussed, not wasting time and (technically) energy on someone who perceives something completely wrong.

I meant gay in both meanings lol. Original as happy and modern one also applies as homo.
He is unreal due to his constant lack of maturity, highly idealistic and naive.
His determination is admirable, but i view his determination more of patience cuz it wasnt result of his hard work that sasuke turned good or that world got united and is on the way to peace. Its not he that convinced nagato to change his mind it was relationship nagato had with jiraya. The true bearer of determination imho is obito and that's why he is my fav, not sasuke dont accuse me of what u dont know, but even sasuke managed to achieve most goals he has set unlike naruto.

Sorry naruto is too cheesy for me and shrouded by hypocrisy as most things play out for him due to plot and i cant give him credit for that, except his faith but even that was broken by obito for a while.

I love his drive, goofy attitude, and break from typical "I loves ta fight" shonen archetype that every other shonen hero seems to have. He has clear set goals and works hard to accomplish them and he has had many opportunities to throw in the towel and accept things and always said "F*ck that".

I think he should end up wit Hinata... Oh and another thing. Isn't it odd that even when he doesn't do anything in a chapter there are at least five or six threads in that week about naruhina or narusaku. We even talk endlessly about who he's going to bang in this manga. Too boss if you ask me

I would like him to become the hokage or something higher (kage of shinobi alliance) but I'd be satisfied with him going around the world as a sage.

edit: I also like that he has flaws and shortcomings. He has issues as a person and we see him work through those things. I love that kind of stuff...

Naruto's will was NEVER broken by Obito. He was in despair because of his friends death. Wich is normal.

I actually loved Naruto's reaction to that. His ideals were hit pretty hard by Obito and the way he took it was realistic to me. Disbelief.

Very good handling by Kishi I thought. Of course Hinata had to break him out of that because there is no way the MVP of the war can just fall into despair, but I liked seeing Naruto vulnerable like that.

So I'll use my previous comment as a basis for this one:

Why I like Naruto: His indomitable will and drive, the way he drives himself to protect his friends, and how he always mediates an argument to the best of his abilities to try a get away from controversy. Sometimes, his character makes me cherish my own friends more.

Pairing: Naruhina. I just feel that, if we were to go by parallels, Hinata is more like Minato than Sakura and Naruto is clearly like his mother. Not to mention it didn't take years for Hinata to acknowledge Naruto; she liked him from the start.

Power-ups: Hypothesized in my sig, I want/think he will get the Rinnegan and BM Sage Mode. It seems fitting; BM Powered up to the best of its abilities and the Rinnegan to finalize the new coming of the Sage. Not to mention this would put him at the top of the manga power-wise.

Hokage or not: It all depends. I've always wanted him to be Hokage but when I delve deeper into literary factors, Sasuke being Hokage makes sense. Madara didn't become Hokage and feared the oppression of the Uchiha; Sasuke not becoming Hokage will refuel his hatred because he won't be able to rebuild his clan in their original home. Therefore him becoming Hokage seems suitable under literary context.

Sage or not: This all depends if he becomes Hokage or not. If he doesn't he gains a place as "Supreme Kage" as the new God of Shinobi and or he wanders the world preaching about peace.
