It's probably Kabuto. That's the most logical possibility of all the known characters. Of course, it could always be a new character, but that would seem a bit random at this pont in the story.

maybe karin can't sense him because orochimaru sucked out all his power so perhaps his chakra signature is different from what she remembers

The characters we are unsure of at the moment can only be certain people in my opinion. & there is no way in hell it is Itachi. He has had a heroes death and we have got closure to his story. Bringing him back at this point would not have any benefit on the story what so ever...
The story is slowly coming to an end, and I highly doubt kishi will bring new characters into the mix.
So the 2 people we are unsure of can only be certain people...
The Man in the shadows - in my opinion, can only be Kabuto. I would love to see an epic plot twist and it turns out to be the Original Sage of the 6 Paths, or something like that. But i highly doubt that will happen. Kabuto seems to be the only logical answer.
The person inside the white Spiral-Zetsu - In my opinion, this can only be Yamato. The Spiral zetsu is using wood techniques and seems a lot stronger than before. (possibly because Yamato is inside and Zetsu is feeding off his chakra?)

Kishi is actually quite smart on that note. He makes his "secrets" so obvious that people tend to over think them.

My first thought was that he is indeed Kabuto... and still that would be logical and possible cause why the hell not?
But!!
after seeing the last chapter im pretty sure that hes not...
not because of the fact that Karin didnt recognize his chakra...
It is just that if he was Kabuto kishi wouldnt make it seem so mysterious...
I mean the fact that we wont see who he is after one chapter already make me believe that theres no chance for him to be kabuto...
cause Kabuto isnt special or new we already know all about him so imagine after a few chapters to see that the mystery man was Kabuto..
Me personally, I will be disappointed.. I will be like "ok so much suspense and all those chapters just for the return of harry potter??"
so because I believe that kishi knows that better than me and he wouldn't make it seem so important if It was just kabuto soo...

and this is also the reason I agree with people saying that he is either a very old/forgotten person or someone completely new to the manga...

My guess is that it is one of the Akatsuki members. You might think it's stupid but the most logical choice for me is Hidan. Why? Because Karin stated that his chakra is 'evil' and she did not recognize it. Please don't take me for a troll as I'm just stating my opinion.

As for me, at first I thought it was definitely Kabuto. Scratched up bare feet, Medical Jutsu to save Sasuke, and he would repay Itachi by saving his beloved brother.
However, after no one recognized the Chakra, I'm starting to doubt it.

Possible identities of Mystery Man
1) Edo Danzo
2) Edo Izuna
3) Kabuto (DSM)
4) Itachi
5) Jishin
6) Orochimaru clone ? (Maybe he can make clones since he took a Zetsu body?)
7) Sasuke wasn't really stabbed (Kishi asspull, Hashirama gave Sasuke Sage Mode?)
OUt of all these, I feel that only 5 and 6 are likely. Danzo coming back seems silly. Izuna would be recognized by Tobirama. Kabuto has not had enough time to make it to the battlefield or escape Izanami. Oro's thoughts suggest he is really concerned about Sasuke. Jishin seems unlikely at best.

Hidan was dicapitated,but he is Still alive and kicking,who knows obito or kabuto may have fixed him up before the war.i agree with ismael kun,this is the most logical fact ever stated about the mystery man.

It is not the sage himself,someone be it madara,hashirama or tobirama would of sensed his chakra as they are descendants,especially madara since he is the closest to him.
It is not any of random uchiha (Who are all dead mind you)
Nobody went off to the side and brought them back with powers they don't even have.

When we last left him he was in the midst of finding himself.
Every person posses a unique chakra signature kabuto has one and it is unfamilliar with karins because he never truly found himself.
You know unless you want to go with the more "logical route" of itachi,shisui or the sage showing up for and by absolutely no reason.
Some said kabuto servers no purpose at this point.

Anyone even know what that means ? It means he can breathe life into things.
