And you think Kishimoto can animate? o_O.

Kishimoto is not directing the movie.. hes providing a storyline for it.. Just like he is the one who provides the storyline for the anime (yes each episode does have a writer, however that is to divide the episode and add anything into it. )

Just because the original writer is making something off of his work .. doesn't mean its automatically "canon". Because people who work their asses of for the anime, were given permission by Kishimoto himself.
he said it was a continuation of the manga (yes not word for word but still)
it's canon

I mean i don't really care whether its canon or non-canon. Its just the whole idea about "if the original writer writes it, its canon".. that doesn't go well with me, when the original writer is giving off copyrights to his stuff to be edited and added stuff into.
Ok so regardless of the fact that Kishi himself said it ties with the original manga storyline and the trailer even said "Final Chapter of Naruto's story"

and yet you disbelieve that it is canon. What will it take to convince you? Kishi probably doesn't even know what the term "canon" is so don't expect him to say it.

He also said its alright even if you haven't read the manga... Anime will continue from the manga also.. it did in Part 1 also.. oh wait i remember that was labeled as "non-canon".

Again bro, it doesn't matter to me if its canon or non-canon. I don't believe in that stuff. If something is in the anime it can be proven by the manga, if something is in the manga, it can be proven via anime.

So even though it's not a coincidence that movie starts at the end of the manga showing the characters grown up for the first time, continues the story of the Ootsutsuki, and touches upon the events which previously happened in the manga(Naruto losing his arm, the Moon, Hinata's love, etc.) doesn't convince you that it's canon?

No other movie tied directly with Manga events.

Also again, the trailer officially states "Final Story of Naruto".

That means it's not a spin-off, side-story, or whatever. This is the last part of Naruto's story.

Because the anime contradicts the manga
Example: Naruto never knew the name of the 7 jins but in the anime he already met a couple of them
Only thing here is that, it doesn't effect the manga at all......

Isobu and the bubble dude are the only ones in the anime he met. However, he never knew the bubble dude's tailed beast. Nor did he know Isobu's jinchuriki.

Yet you don't really have to read the manga for the final story of Naruto.. nice.

Except it was stated to be tied as closely to the manga as possible. That means it's canon.
The movie is tied as closely as possible doesn't mean it's continuation of the story. Just that it won't be contradicting the Mangaverse cannon. But the story manga is telling will end with the manga.

As for being cannon it will be more like any other Naruto movie. There are those who like to include anime extensions as long as it doesn't conflict the manga and then there are cannon Nazies who adhere to manga only and reject other sources. :p It depends how you want to take it or what do you want to do with those elements in the other media.

For example I don't give much importance to most of the animation ( I don't even watch it) but I loved the addition they had done to character of Oro and given him more depth. But if I am critiquing manga only only, can I use that part? I don't think so. What if I want to use it for my FF which is otherwise cannon? Then it becomes subjective and personal. Someone would say sure someone would prefer I don't.

But then what does it take to prove it's continuity?

  • It was already stated that it's "The final story of Naruto" in the teaser, which sounds like the official continuation of the story from the manga.
  • Kishi said it was tied as closely as possible with the manga
  • Kishi is supervising the project
  • It touches upon the events that previously happened in the manga arc(Naruto losing his arm, the moon, etc.)
  • The villain is connected to the Ootsutsuki whereas all other villains in previous movies were always originals that had no connection to any clans or story in the manga.
  • Movie also comes out after the manga is finished which makes it seem like they wanted to have an animated finale to the series.
It seems like the it's more canon than it is not. Unlike the anime, Kishi has no influence over it, but in this movie he's supervising the story.
