LOL fanboy, half of what you said was achieved because of itachi's "sharingan" and being an "uchiha". its not associated with intelligence in anyway. for example, yes he can quickly learn new jutsus because of the sharingan obviously.

when did he deceived all of akatsuki? I mean does the member really care about itachi's back story? lol. all they care is having a member who can capture the tailed beasts for them, they don't have initial interview or background check when recruiting buddy.

I think you missed the part where itachi admitted something, it was a message from itachi to his fanboys:::

don't over estimate him, in the end, he only failed. lol

Lol!!! Call me a fanboy and you think my whole point is invalid. You havn't shown anything. If half my points are due to him having the sharingan then proved why all my other points are invalid. To admit that you failed at something doesn't mean you lose everything else that you have done before that. Shikamaru had failed against Temari, Hidan, retrieving sasuke. Itachi fails and admits it an now he is shown how crap he is, you are crazy. Also he's just telling Kabuto its that being Uchiha isn't as important and he failed at his main goal to help his brother. If any other character had as much responsibility, I'm sure they would fail too.
Also only 2 out of the 17 points actually has to do with the sharingan and sharingan just helps him analyse it. He many see how the technique is performed but he need the brain to do anything with it. The same way you learn from example the sharingan allows the user to view it in finer detail (eg. small movements, chakra) You have to process this and apply it. Call me a fanboy but come up with something better to counter please because "fanboy" is overused for I don't like your statement so your wrong because you like them. I guess your not very intelligent as you think 2 out of 17 is a half

Shikamaru had failed against Temari

Technically inaccurate, he completed his objective. Just because that objective was not what was expected, does not mean he failed. Shikamaru was the only one who was promoted; his match was far more strategic than any other, he used Temari's own strategies against her.

Also, he didn't fail to recover Sasuke, Naruto did. :D

To be honest Shikamaru would have made Kabuto release his technik by his shadow technik without killing him too. And I don't see the intelligence in keeping someone as long as possible away to use a forbidden Uchiha technik?!!!
WOW intelligent ~_~

But I believe he is still a lil bit experienced than Shikamaru. And the most intelligence chara imo is Minato. He has planned things for Naruto in future (in advance).

yup very good point xd

I know that he was promoted for his battle against Temari but the objective of the battle was to defeat the opponent. I see Naruto digging a tunnel and leaving behind a clone a smarter plan than Shikamarus. Im just trying to get past what we have been told. We have been told he is smart and is strategic but forcing the opponent to move beside a hole is not the hardest thing to to compared to what others have done. He completed his objective to capture her but failed in the larger objective of winning the match. Being able to see the bigger picture rather than small plans like in chess (or shogi or whatever we want to call it). Without narration, commentary or small quotes here and there, we would actually never think he is smart.

There are different types of Intelligence portrayed in this manga...

Overall? Shikaku without a doubt

Unfortunately kakashi himself said that he's as smart as shikimaru...

Itachi, minato etc, it's all debatable whether they are smarter than kakashi or the same in terms of intelligence..

So we have

Shikaku > Itachi=Minato=Kakashi>= Shikimaru
i agree with Shikaku above all
and i could have sworn kakashi said he was as smart as shikimaru
but it doesnt matter i also agree with blaze when he says is subjective. I think its subjective after shikaku because its your opinion now like you said Itachi=Minato=Kakashi.

I'll like to also add neji somewhere in the list. im assuming after shikimaru. But neji was also stated as a genius. And orchumaru. That is all for now.

So...because we're told he's smart means he isn't? Check! :D If we're told he's super smart by the storyteller, that means he is. Whether he's the smartest is yet to be argued. However, I would go so far as to say that because his intelligence is made such a big deal of, it's probably intended for him to be the smartest.

*Does a little happy dance* It might not take as long as I thought to prove Shikamaru's the smartest.

Shikaku is the top for now but his son shikimaru will take the pedistol in the end. Although I haven't even considered Tobi he is indeed a clever villain.

I think shikamaru because with his intelect he has a laydback emotionless attitude as we've seen that people unable to controlemotions lead to downfall.this is what went wrong with itachi as he never knew how to handle his emotions.

Lol, Itachi never knew how to control his emotions? Narutopedia says; "While a member of Akatsuki, he possessed incredible self-control of his emotions, constantly displaying an emotionless personality."

I rest my case.

You are forgetting the fact that mastering Justsu and Fighting capability have absolutely nothing to do with intelligence. For example, the only reason shikamaruy is a good fighter is because he is so intelligent. There are other people who can become good Shinobi without as much intelligence based on Skill, and their capability when using jutsu and fighting. Also Itachi has a bloodline on his side (Uchiha) which are all very powerful. On the other hand the Shikamaru doesn't have a large and prosperous clan behind him. You say that Itachi mastered things and could fight well at the age or 13, well that doesn't have much to do with Intelligence. :ice:
