Gai entered gates pretty much every time he faught Kisame, throughout the war, do I need anymore proof? It's right there in the dialogue.

We can argue all day about "is Gai strong enough to defeat Itachi" but atleast lets put this Kisame argument to bed. Obviously Kisame will get his @$$ beat by Gai, as he has done multiple times before. Please don't make me use manga feats.

As for this Itachi arguement... as much as I'd like to say "Logically, Amaretsu can't hit what it can't touch" and " Gai has perfected the style of fighting against the sharingan"... we all know if this was a true battle Itachi would not be defeated, short of Gai going suicide mission on his @$$ lol. But Gai would never open 8 gates in a situation like this.
